NEW Lair Screens Plus Interview!

I’m assuming no; because that would be kind of lame of him to mention something that obvious and trivial. Plus his statement about that, is section off, from the main article. It’s pretty much a section where he spouts the Cells abilities among other things.
I think you've put the enphasis in the wrong place. Instead, if you look at it like this...

Eggebrecht: Lair in its current form couldn't be done on 360. We are using large amounts of Cell's SPUs for all of our geometry, landscape, simulations, animations, even troop AI.
You see that Cell is doing a lot. By comparison, perhaps given the amount of geomtery setup and landscape work, Xenon wouldn't have enough cycles spare to run the simulations, animations and AI? And it'd be no more lame to say you're using the CPU to do standard geometry setup than it is to say you're using it to do AI and physics - all these functions are 'obvious and trivial', but being able to do lots of them at the same time is impressive.

I find it unbelievable that they're drawing the geometry with Cell when there's 8 perfectly good Vertex Shaders in RSX waiting to do just that! Why not use them? It makes a lot more sense that they're doing all the setup on Cell, and the rendering on RSX, but Cell also allows lots of other stuff to happen too. Whereas on a conventional processor, the geometry, especially if detailed, can eat into the CPU time and leave a lot less available for other things (though personally I'd like to something in this game that smacks me of amazing AI, physics, detail, etc!)

These pics are from the E3 trailer IIRC, and are far and away superior ot the later TGS game footage. I wouldn't reference these pics for what Lair's managing to achieve. If it's a target, they're a million miles away, and only have months to go...

Nail, hammer, meet Shifty.

I've said it time and time again. We keep hearing how Factor5 use all this "amazing" technology, how they use "the power of Cell" to do this and that, how "the power of Cell" allows them to do things that are just not possible on other consoles, how "the power of PS3" is unlimited (or whatever he said)... And i still can't see it in their game!

I mean, if the game was SOOOO advanced, wouldn't it show straight away? Instead all we can see is ugly overused Bloom, crap animations and lots of shiny shine!

Factor5, we're not in 2002 anymore, this is the day of subtle more realistic effects, not Lens Flare in-your-face kind of effects. And let's not start with the game being a "fantasy" game. It just looks wrong.

er..i think you're too harsh on the bashing. the current build does hav its lows but nothing almost as tragic as u just said. and please dont include me in your "we" statement coz obviously i think it looked dame good atm.

Dammit, where's Vince? He'd show you young whipper-shnappers what-for!

Dammit, where's Chap? He'd...!

Nevermind.

One of Factor 5's big problems is the stuff they've shown prior to the game. They showed great looking interactive dragon demos, then an awesome showreel...and then the game. Compare the lifelike animation of the soldiers fighting each other in the E3 footage to the robotic movements of the soldiers in the TGS game. Compare the incredible fire effect to the 'stream of textured particles' at TGS. They're world's apart, and what's being shown doesn't smack of 'incredible power beyond anything other platforms can do'. It doesn't really even look like 'great power used effectively' at the moment.

Compare the amazing fire effects used in the e3 demo that left me with my mouth wide open with the fire effects used on the tgs demo -_-

Lair preview (IGN)

Lair is still looking pretty impressive. Thousands of ground soldiers with high detail are displayed at once (though their animations are a little on the passive side), while dragon fire itself offers its own ambient light in real time. A number of other impressive visual effects grabbed our eye as well -- from the shadows and dragon animations, to the details of the environments and the extremely realistic-looking water. As our dragon swooped down over the water at high speed, the resulting physical effects looked fantastic.

I agree with Laa-Yosh that it does look low poly and has too much bloom (even though it doesn't seem as bad now). I'm hoping for a Motorstorm like turn around when this game launches.

It's not even remotely similar to water... more like a lot of dunes from black sand. To anyone who thinks this is realistic, just where have you seen water like this?

So do I understand correctly that you so far haven't watched a single recent Lair movie? Because it looks nothing like that picture on IGN.
