    Athlon XP 3200+ and 6800GT @ 420/1100 w/DX9.0c, 61.76 and SM3 enabled as far as I can tell with SM3 enabled.

    1 - 275
    2 - 275
    3 - 350
    4 - 120
    5 - 75

On Chalnoths system, option 1 is faster than option 2. On ysoya's system, option 2 is faster than option 1. And on mine, they are the same speed.

Edit: Just tried it at stock speeds, 350/1000
    1 - 267
    2 - 274
    3 - 350
    4 - 122
    5 - 78

I don't think he's shooting from the hip, rather somewhere pretty close to the hip.

    Maybe.

And with respect to the other poster with a 6800 GT, it might be the drivers. This early-on, different drivers are bound to produce different results. I'm currently using the 65.62 drivers.

Please don't feed the troll. Just wait for the orderly to take Ruiner back to his padded cell and then everything will be nice and quiet again.

I cant get it to run for some reason. Im on a 6800gt dx9.0c (most of the files in dxdiag end with 2126) and the 61.77 drivers. The error is couldnt initalise direct3d. Make sure directx is installed. Im using the exe from the zip

Surprise! Maybe Nvidia's implementation of SM3.0 instancing isn't as good as we originally thought now we have another implementation of instancing to test it against?

    Performance on my rig (P4 3.0GHZ + GF6800U at stock 61.77)

    1:348
    2:385
    3:367
    4:178
    5:84

At high framerates (300+), the fps counter changes too fast. Can you make a version with a moving window average please Humus?

Did you download this from ati.com?

The 1-2-3-4-5 order does not indicate any sorting by speed. If another card has other performance characteristics that doesn't mean something's wrong. Yes, 5 should be slowest, and 4 better. The first three however are all a good deal depending on CPU speed. Neither of them are expected to always be faster than any other. Depending on a bunch factors in real world applications, any of them may come out as fastest.

Since when does the spec say anything about performance?

Ah crap, I forgot to skip past loading the vs2.0 shader for those cards. I'll fix that later tonight. Gotta go to work now.

I didn't know Humus coded his demo to use a vertex frequency stream divider.

Exactly. This demo probably doesn't use NV40's GI at all.

How does the NV40 do GI ?

    [edit]

Doh! Don't answer that - I just scrolled up a bit from the link I posted below and read the HLSL_Instancing

I run WinXP SP2 RTM and most of the files end with 2180 in dxdiag.

    Some approximated results:

    1: 370
    2: 392
    3: 380
    4: 140
    5: 49

    R9800 NP, P4C 2.4 @ 2.8, 2 GB RAM

    Cool demo, humus. :)
