Movie Reviews 2.0

Holy shit @ the prayers at the end. XD
yes it would be scratching out eyeballs if they were serious but its more of a nod to countries (though aimed chiefly at the US) perverting religion (which is already perverted) to further their means.
Another example u have the agnostic chick suddenly find god, because of a coincidence (the soldiers turning up just in time to save the day, even though the decision to go and rescue them took place days before, to her is a sign of god & thus becomes a believer  )

if ppl want to see a very good film

#51 for the best horrors Ive ever seen, may not be for everyone though. Great cinematography btw

Garden State- 9/10

Movie is timeless. It's too bad I don't see Peter Sarsgaard very often. He was the only saving grace of "Jarhead." I have a large number of friends and family from New Jersey, and I often find myself there, and GS does a remarkable job depicting life in NJ. It wasn't until the success of "Big Bang Theory" that I even realized the guy who plays Sheldon actually makes a cameo in Garden State, as the fast food knight. He looked young, too.

"Tim speaks Klingon."

Just watched "In The Loop" ... 8/10, for being a confusing mix of realism, NYPD Blue type cameras and Ricky Gervais style comedy and a hint of Green Wing, but still very efficient. Also my respect for Mimi Kennedy as an actress shot through the roof thanks to this one. David Rasche was an enjoyable appearance too.

Saw Transformers 3 last night. I loved it. Easily the best of the three (not that it was hard to top the piece of shit that was #2), but it was really well done I thought. Sam being a more mature character is good.

Wonder if they'll do Unicron next so they can revive all the Decepticons.

I thought the first two transformer movies were bad, but 2 was epically terrible. Is 3 actually decent at all (i.e. how does it compare to 1)?

I dunno, all TF movies are mediocre IMHO. Dark of the moon is extra annoying because there's more than an hour of setup with totally silly scenes, but the other movies all have such elements too. All the deus ex machina is pretty lame too, there's like 5 scenes where we get a last minute rescue.

I get that general audiences don't need robots with character, but it's still a waste. We have like 3 or 4 robots, some comic sidekicks and a completely generic army of evil guys with shameless asset recylcing from the previous two movies. At least we don't get straight clones, like when the 6 vehicles assemble into the giand robot (the one with balls) and take part in the shooting as single robots at the same time.

Spectacular it is, but nothing more. Maybe the jokes are less offensive.

I made the same argument when 2 came out ... but let me just repeat this, people who still go to see movies in this series are the problem ... they've been shown twice what to expect now, there is no more excuse. If you give Bay money you are purposely destroying cinema.

I'd say it's more like, the vast majority of people really enjoy these movies, like a roller coaster ride or something. I've been utterly surprised to see which of the people I know on facebook have been to these movies - many of them were girls, something I wouldn't have believed if someone told me back in the '80s when I used to watch the original cartoons and play with the toys. It's got an appeal like Avatar, all it lacks is the strength to get repeated viewings (the same people I've mentioned went to see that movie 2 or 3 times)

I think the first TF was actually somewhat decent minus crappy action action sequences. The last two had better action sequences, but fell short quite badly in other areas.

Potter, Part 2 - 7.5/10 Never read the books, and sensed quite a few deviations from it in this last movie. Didn't care for a lot of the scenes, and the battle at Hogwarts really didn't feel that spectacular.

I think the idea of giving Bay money=destroying the movie industry is a bit... melodramatic.

I've seen all three TF films within the first week of release.

First one I enjoyed.

Second one I think is the worst gigantic budget movie ever made. If not worst, then tying with Terminator 4.

So, why did I see the third?

Because the second one had a perfect storm of shit causing it to suck, with the biggest problem being the initial stages of writing took place during the Writer's Strike of '07, and that meant Michael Bay wrote the first few drafts... The other guys just did their best to fix up a child's scribblings.

The third did not have that. It had a far clearer path to being a finished product. Bay was basically not allowed to go full retard, and the movie was far better because of it.

Do I think these were cinematic masterpieces? No. Hell, I think I was overcharged on DOTM because of the fucking 3D viewing I foolishly opted for. Mild headaches throughout a film when you eventually stop noticing the 3D=not happenin' again any time soon.

Do I regret spending a goddamned dime on ROTF? Yes. I wouldn't watch that film again unless I was being paid or if it was already being shown in the room I am in at the time, and I cannot prevent it or go do something else.

Basically, my whole point is this is not a black and white thing. You can see a movie because it's fun and shit as long as it doesn't offend the mind too much. ROTF and Terminator 4 certainly fall under the "You know what? Fuck this shit" category. I don't think TF1 and DOTM do.

I am also going to go on record as saying that if somehow he does another TF film, things will have to change massively for me to see it. More than one or two characters need to be developed, stop filling the robot ranks with flunkies given insanely intricate designs only to say maybe five lines and then disappear or die, stuff like that.

I was not bugged by the constant stream of the Decepticons as they pretty much established very clearly that unless the Decepticon has a speaking role, it is likely a clone grown in a vat. Rather good solution for the need of cannon fodder for the humans and Autobots, really. One of the few good things to come out of ROTF(This, most of Jetfire's dialogue when he wasn't farting parachutes and the fucking Icecream truck alternate mode are it).

horrible bosses - 3/5 - Was generally funny but not outrageously so. Some jokes didn't work. The supporting cast was underused. It was a decent movie that could have been great.

You should take a look at The Thick of It, if you haven't already.

I read in many places that the second movie had terrible jokes, racist kind of jokes or comments.... I have to admit, i really wasn't paying much attention, but i can't remember any example of racism.. or jokes, for that matter.

Finally got around to seeing the new Tron.

I'm going to be generous and give it a 3/10 just because the music was good. If not for that it is easily a 1 or 2 out of 10. Even nostalgia for the original couldn't save this one.

As for Transformers it still amazes me that people like it. If I remember correctly I gave TF 1 a 2/10 and TF2 a 1/10. And those were only that high due to the special effects. I have no plans to see TF 3, but I'm sure one of my friends will make me watch it when he gets it on DVD or BRD. :p

Rewatching the Planet Earth series. It really is one of the very very few movies that I think actually provides a reason to get a HD player. Most BRD releases, I'm quite happy with the DVD version, but the Planet Earth series is spectacular in HD.

Regards,
SB
