The Creator: Great premise, great effects, good acting.
Could have been an epic classic but let down by some really really fucking stupid bits of plot.

I'd like to hope there is a 'Snyder cut' version that actually makes sense but probably not.

Saw The Marvels last night and it was quite a bit better than I exepected. Sure, my expectations were pretty low but still I thought it was MUCH better than the last Thor, Antman and many of the new shows that have been coming out. Bit of a shame that this is bombing, I guess everyone is a bick sick of Marvel after so much rubbish.

Xenogears 20th anniversary concert bluray. it looks and sounds amazing!

too bad its not being sold in my region.... square really need to partner with AppleTV or something, and let people have easier time purchasing their amazing concert movies.

lolwat 😅
rELeaSe ThE eDWarDS Cut!!1!1!! :runaway:

Monsters by the same guy: clearly lower budget but I think works much better as a story. Trigger warning for ppl who are passionate about building/not building The Wall.
Monsters of Men because it has been in my todo for a while & similar name: pretty good, kinda a modern take on Number5 mixed with Rambo. Robots are animated at different framerate or whatever that makes it look kinda jittery like the ED-209 from Robocop but otherwise pretty decent for (I presume?) pretty low budget.

Edit: Oh, also I rewatched Ad Astra because I saw someone commenting on it favourably elsewhere.
Don't remember if I noticed previously but the spaceship interiors & zero-g stuff was very well done but the plot is still trash.
Its the Patrick Bateman idea of what a 'thinking mans space movie' should be but its not, its just a trash hodge-podge of bits from actually good movies stuck together.

The other night I started to watch Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (2021). I fell asleep about 40 minutes into it. I'm not bothering to go back to finish watching it. It was absolute garbage.

I know, man. It's moronic.

Jill isn't meant to be a Mexican, or at least a Hispanic character. :p

I'm watching Rebel Moon ... This movie is an awful extended video-game cut-scene. It really sucks in every conceivable way.
It's yet another example of a movie that is an edited shitshow. It felt like an 80's fantasy film where the main character is gathering sidekicks for the big quest, but in this case none of those characters did anything afterwards, and you feel absolutely nothing for them. I can see why Snyder was touting a Snyder-cut immediately at release, it's a fucking terrible movie without it. Yes, I understand it's part one of two, but it seems like it should have been part one of three and paced much better.

The genius mind of Zach Snyder invented Seven Samurai in space with art that looks similar to video games we've all played, and anime we've watched. On top of that, he forgot to write actual characters and then forgot interesting action scenes need more than slow motion sequences. He's probably the most overrated film maker going. I have no idea what his die hard fan base sees in his movies. Rebel Moon might actually be his worst movie too. The likelihood that part two is good is about zero.

Edit: The warehouse fight scene in Batman vs Superman, which his fans praise and maybe the only good scene in the movie, was directed by the 2nd unit director. I wouldn't even rate that scene as exceptional, but it's better than the rest of the movie.

The DoF was really weird as well, like it was shot with no focus and then background had this horrible motion blur applied to it in post.

I think it's actually just how he shot the movie. Anamorphic lenses with wide aperture. Gets that very shallow depth-of-field look. The Batman was similar. They used anamorphic lenses with shallow depth of field and weird defects and smaller lenses like the Helios 44-2 with similar characteristics for the car chase (needed a smaller lens and camera to mount to the car).

There are so many effects shots in Rebel Moon that they've probably butchered it or added it in via vfx to match the look of the non vfx shots.

Just watched Amsterdam and really rather enjoyed it.

It's tonally light-hearted in spite of some substantially dark subject matter and at least one shocking moment; it moves along at a decent pace without feeling hurried; it's well shot but not flashy; the protagonists are all likeable and well played, and the broader cast is impeccable too.

It's on Prime in the UK, and I definitely recommend it if you're in the mood for a crime mystery film.

We (family of four) watched Amsterdam a year ago, it left all of us somehow underwhelmed. Can't really pinpoint it but it felt a bit like toned-down Baz Luhrmann style stuff.

Everybody liked Knives Out, as well as most Poirot-movies of recent years we have wathced. See How They Run was a bit like Amsterdam - did not quite get the mix of crime mystery and quirkyness right for us.

Then again wife and I like Only Murders in the Building.

I got to watch 2001 for the first time not too long ago, the cinematography is amazing but my god is it slow paced.
I love it for that reason.
I also actually read the book so its less confusing wtf is going on in the 2nd half to me.

If someone likes slow paced interpretation of SF book, I recommend the Chinese TenCent production of Three Body - the episodes can be found in Netflix. The runtime of series is longer than the actual audiobook ...

Netflix version will probably feel like ADHD after that.
