Motorstorm screens

IIRC Brightside has 1000 LEDs? Unless they need some super extreme technology, there buyable for pennies, so that shouldn't the issue for cost.

As for Cell TVs, it's not so much a matter of being cool, as being a return on investment! After all the trumpeting of Cell, when is it going to actually be used for those CE purposes that PS3 Linux is training people in?

I'm curious to know if Toshiba will end up rolling their Cell TVs out since they are the only STI guy who has not shipped any end products yet.

Sony's Chubachi has something to say here: http://www.eetimes.com/news/latest/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=196604372.

Sony established a Cell development center last year to work on new applications. "It takes time to use the Cell processor for consumer electronics products since it was developed for the game machine." Sony "engineers are investigating potential new applications for the Cell processor for consumer products and also industrial products."

So things are coming, but at Sony time. :D

I think that quote mainly relates to SPU usage. What in a TV will want 3/4 SPUs? You can have the interface run off the PPC (which has to be there, whole chip is defective without it) and render on the SPU. You could run color correction on an SPU and sound effects, but what else?

Did a quick round of google on Toshiba Cell TV. The first link is an update on 22nd Dec 2006.

When asked recently if Toshiba would have Cell-based consumer products to market first, Toshiba digital media CEO, Yoshihide Fujii, responded with an emphatic "yes," apparently forgetting the fact that Sony has been shipping just such a product for about a month now.

Toshiba is also working on a Cell TV. Toshiba engineer Yoshio Masubuchi predicts that such a device could connect to other Cell TVs through videoconferences, allow viewers to change channels with hand gestures or voice commands, and permit content and advertising to be customized as it rolls in.

It will be Toshiba's loss if they don't capitalize on it after the investment. :(
We should probably split this into another topic.

You could decode and render mutiple HDTV streams for previews. But they probably mainly want it for better post processing options.

So, any new MOTORSTORM screens in here? ;)

Here's the Eurogamer review: http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=71466

But that's a review of the japanse version. Like they said, with the extras like an online mode it would get a (even) higer score.

And here are a few new screens (taken off a tv that is)

The one with the truck covered in mud looks great imo.

But where would that content come from? Bluray/HDDVD players? They already have that feature, made possible by their internal processing...

Cell in a TV, in its current state, is an absolute overkill. That's why it's taking so long for Toshiba and Sony to release TVs with Cell inside. When they will have smaller versions of Cell (maybe with 4 or so SPUs), then maybe they will. The vast majority of Cell processors at the moment are being used for PS3. The rest are for IBM to play around.

Surely Toshiba will want to get something back from the investment they made in Cell, that's why they're so eager to cump whatever processors they are using at the moment on their TVs and use Cell instead.

1080p @ 60fps WTF :???:

Doesn't really know the difference between sixaxis and wii-mote.
Doesn't really know about lasers.
Mentions 1080p twice, but we would've known by now, so I highly doubt it.
All in all though she wasn't too bad. (is tempted to say 'for a woman' :D)

If Motorstorm is 1080p at 60fps (solid?)...

Well, considering I can't get out of my phone contract for a while, I'm not going to need an iPhone for a year and a half, so... Pile on!

I thought you Euros don't get phones on contract.

Actually, I may have to import the Euro version of the iPhone so I don't have to get tied to a Cingular contract, assuming they're unlocked in the EU and someone imports it back to the US.

Hmm, speaking of frame rates, i wonder what kind of video it could play back.

Can it play the Youtube/GoogleVideo/Gametrailers.com videos of Motorstorm?

On the contrary, contract phones are massive in the UK. It's amazing that you can get phones for free with a contract that cost up to £299 or so if you buy tham Pay As You Go.

Um... didnt the allmost final build demo run at 30fps with motion blur?
Not saying I believe this 1080p stuff, but that demo came out 2 months ago, with almost another 2 months until the game is out. I wouldnt call it 'almost final build'.
