Motorstorm screens

Dunno about you guys, but ill take 1080p over 720p anyday as long as theres no huge downgrade from it of course.

Regarding 1080p and 60 fps, come on people, take a look at Ridge Racer and compare it to MS or HS or PGR3. The shading, lighting and effects complexity is night and day...

This is part of the reason why I'm interested whether or not Resistance will make 1080p. They say they are aiming for it, but I'd be very, very impressed if they pull it off.

It looks fun and it's fast but there's nothing spectacular or 'next-gen' in the visuals, it's obvious they've had to cut some corners.

On the other hand, you could say something about the waterfall in the tunnel, or the fact that there are 14 cars possible on screen rather than 8, or that the 3 tracks exclusive for the PS3 look much better and have more detail than ... yes, the Xbox version. It's a year older, and it looks a year older, but you'd be more likely to compare RR7 to RR6, wouldn't you? Except of course that the developers themselves already pointed out that part of the better looks of RR7 are just due to more time rather than any limitations of the 360. ;)

Even Forza is considerably more simple then the other - graphicaly advanced - titles just because of 60 fps, and they only have to fill half as many pixels at 720p and have loads more bandwith to use.

I'm hoping that Forza 4 will do a lot better ... they really didn't have a lot of time for this game with their last version, and only the in-car view looks decent, imho.

The point with the whole 1080p discussion really is that sometimes it is worth it. You don't always need more effects, and sometimes the increased fidelity is worth a lot.

1up interview...
http://www.1up.com/do/previewPage?cId=3154216
1UP: What kind of features can we look forward to with the game's online play?

PS: Online we're targeting somewhere between eight and 16 players, offering single races and various tournaments. We're also working on some cool modes, but we haven't locked them yet, so I can't give details. Obviously we'll have in game chat, lobbies, buddies, etc. Imagine a full-on multiplayer MotorStorm experience with you screaming at your mates to get out of the way and ramming rivals into a rock face and you'll get the idea.

1UP: The TGS version of the game felt a bit slower than we expected it to. Is this part of your approach, or just the result of an incomplete TGS demo version?

PS: This is simply due to the demo being incomplete. We want every vehicle to feel fast and since TGS we have made improvements to framerate and tweaked the cameras and handling and already the game is much faster. I don't expect anyone to find the final game slow.
:)

Motorstorm is certainly one of the best looking PS3 titles now. It's definately come a long way.

I wouldn't say I'd pick up a PS3 just because of this game though; graphics is one thing, but gameplay is another, and I personally prefer road racers...and Gran Turismo HD just isn't cutting it for me at the moment.

But then on the 1UP show they say it felt like a really slow game. They did say it felt like the really good graphics came from slowing down the gameplay but they don't mention that it was because they had an interview of their own saying the game was slowed down for the demo. It's odd.

Read it again, he says after tgs. 1up played it AT tgs.

I think the game speed is good, I not sure they want a Burnout type game. The track(s) have many twists and turns, hard to maintain or achieve speed(unless you are sailing over a cliff!). :)

Wonder if this game has a replay mode? Hope you can save and share your best replays.

Where's Titanio?

Yeah but then shouldn't they know today that that's not the final game?

I'm sure they know all the games were not final. But my guess is that the comment on the 1up show was from somebody who didnt read the interview or did not know the game would play much faster than at TGS. He was only basing his opinion on his time @ TGS, which like I said since then... has changed.

The way they describe it is that you have a turbo meter and you constantly balance that with overheating and that when you don't turbo it just doesn't feel very fast and you move similar to Wave Race. And I believe that the guy who wrote the interview you linked was at the 1up show and he says that it slowed down when you jumped so you could balance your car but the video of motorstorm when the cars were on the ground still looked pretty sluggish.

But like I said they were just talking about their experience with their gameplay at TGS (yes even the 1up show motorstorm footage). Is it so hard to believe the game has changed since then? (meaning faster)

Yeah but I'm not getting how they would have the turbo demoable if it's so sensitive.

I'm not understanding your question. Demoable? Whats sensitive?

edit: btw, the guy who made the comment about jumping on the 1up show, ryan, was not the guy who made the interview afaik.

Didn't know who they were by name but what I asked was how can they intentionally slow down the gameplay when the turbo meter, which the 1up show hosts complained about, isn't able to be used as much as they want. Wouldn't it make more sense in a racing game to demo it with lower detail or a little lag so that the player at least feel what the gameplay is like rather than actually slow down the game?

Your saying the game was intentionally slowed down to provide better graphics? I call bullocks on that one, it was just a "feeling" by mark macdonald, it wasnt reality. When was a game ever slowed down (not framerate wise, but gameplay wise) to provide better graphics? Your asking why they have intentionally have slown the gameplay, I think thats just how the game was at the time, and obviously has been fixed since then. The whole turbo overheat meter isnt new, so I don't see your point their either. It's just an element of the gameplay so people dont overuse turbo all the time. To balance the playing field if you will.
