Loved that game on the DC. I heard rumblings years back that overworks(?) was working on a sequel for the original Xbox codenamed SOA-X.

I never heard anything for the longest time though. My hope is that the game has been in development for such a time that they decided to skip the last generation and develop for the 360.

I would surely love to see a SOA-X rear it's head wheather or not these upcoming announcments have anything to do with it.

For all I know, they could have scrapped the project long ago.

I guess i know then :) i going to have to wait on a source till they announce it which i'm told will happen at tgs

The reason for its time exclusive is of course the ps3 not being out when the game comes out on the x360

If the games become successively better and more groundbreaking with each sequel, then the danger of burning out is minimal. GTA is still a 'hot series'.

Well now this is a diffrent subject. However i don't see whats so groundbreaking between gta 3 , gta 3 vc , gta 3 sa . Except that it got tweaked more and the games incerased in size .

I think the Tomb Raider analogy is a bit far-fetched. Tomb Raider 1 was great, got rave reviews everywhere. #2 was a bit of a let-down in that nothing new was offered. #3 got plain bad reviews. It went downhill.

GTA:SA got better reviews than its predecessors I believe (at least comparible reviews). While I personally dislike the games (freedom in a game universe == beating people up and killing people? grow up! and yes, I have GTA3+VC double-pack for XBox) I think you'd be mad not to think GTA is some of the hottest game property on the market today - even more than Metal Gear Solid and Halo, IMO.

As much as I love MGS, its becoming more and more irrelevent as time goes on (in western markets). Same with FF's, how long has it been since FFX? FFXII isn't going to set the US/Euro market on fire, I'm willing to be on that.

Halo 3 is going to be huge and a big reason for people to pick up X360. If somehow MS got their hands on GTA first along with Halo they'd be set to take western markets away from Sony. Or at least make it very close.

    Not really .

Look i don't care for gta 3 . But it was groundbreaking as it gave you a free roaming city with tons of things to do in 3d. It was really the 3d that made it groundbreaking because everything in gta 3 was done in gta 1 but in 2d . The diffrences between gta 3 , vc , sa are no where near as big .

Look at mario and you can see the same thing.

Mario came out and it was great , nothing ground brekaing though. You get to mario 3 and you see an eveloution , more control over the branching world , For the time that was ground breaking because no other game offered that . But it was just eveloution when compared to the other marios . Supermaio world took smb 3 a step further , nothign ground breaking . Mario 64 brought the world to 3d and made some ground breaking moves with that but sun shine was ujust more eveloution .

Nothing wrong with that . But after awhile people will get burnt out over it and I think gta hit the peak of its popularity with sa .

If these new consoles have the power they claim (which I don't doubt), and developers, like Rockstar North, are not afraid of getting into the nitty-gritty of focused development, I can imagine franchises like GTA can maintain, if not expand its popularity. Tomb Raider, for example, could become popular again if they finally fix issues that have been present with the series since the first game.

My 2 cents, Japanese devs realized that they need support more than just the Sony console, also there's good chance some of the titles may get a release in the U.S and Europe.

Why would Microsoft announce a western game at TGS?

Why would Microsoft show a crappy version of Perfect Dark Zero on MTV and at the E3 conference only to have a 4x better version behind closed doors?

Why do you people wet your knickers about who is going to be the victor or not. As long as there are great games for both consoles who gives a lemon
