More Japanese Support for XBOX360

I really don't think it's going to be another Final Fantasy. Final Fantasy XII is not even out yet, and I don't think that Square Enix wants to upstage that. (They haven't even announced the FF in development for the PS3) It could be a DQ, but I don't see SQEX releasing their biggest title on a console that almost certainly won't be the biggest in Japan. (Possibly a remake?) Oh, World of Mana. If you remember, Square Enix only announced that it was for next-gen, so maybe that could be the surprise. Possibly Konami's flagship title for the system, as well as Ridge Racer for it, those are my guesses.

What do you know? Where you there when Peter Moore met with Square Enix? No. Do you know SE's business plan for the next 5-10 years? No.
Alright smart guy.

Where was the SE support for the Xbox? What came of the countless meetings Moore and head of MS Japan had with Square/Square Enix from 2000 to present? What happened with the 3 -- count 'em 3 -- buyout offers (as reported in Dean Takahashi's book 'Opening the Xbox') MS put in to the company in 2000 and 2001?

Whatever I'm not gonna argue with you over this.

if you can't even consider the possibility that MAYBE SE would like to expand it's sales in North America you obviously aren't thinking with an open mind.

If you can't listen to Square's own CEO promise "many more games to come" and "this is just the beginning" and even CONSIDER the possibility of FF, or another exclusive RPg, you obviously aren't thinking with an open mind.

No need to go on and on about it, we'll know soon enough what's in the works.

The biggest surprise I'd expect (I guess if you expect it, it wouldn't be a surprise) would be Ridge Racer as a launch title which was rumored in the latest EGM

I'd love to be shocked though

Uh..that would be a big surprise in the sense that nobody would care since PGR3 is leagues better than a tired RR game with fake cars and iffy graphics. I like some of Namco's games but RR isn't one of them. RR was good enough back in 95 but not for 05...I'm sorry.

Why on Earth would you believe MS can so easily tie up that kind of support from SE simply because they're releasing a new console? Money? Nope, they already tried that. Do you really believe MS didn't try its damnedest to get as much Japanese support for the 1st Xbox? Where was all of that?

You keep mentioning the xbox . Why ?

Things are very diffrent

1) when sony enters the market it is ms that will have an installed base already established and growing

2) The dev kits for the x360 went out first , so they can already be far along in development of the next big game be it dragon warrior , ff , or something else and can be released world wide on the x360 to a big installed base already there before the ps3 launches in the 3 major teritorys .

3) The installed base that will be there for the xbox 360 from being released first and some money in the deal to sweaten it up can sway square to make one of thier flagship games a timed exclusive for ms . It doesn't matter really to ms if most of that time is before the ps3 releases . It will still be important to ms as that will be 1 less key game that is exclusive to sony

There is a whole new set of circumstances . Both companys start this gen at 0 consoles sold and both have an equal chance of selling the most consoles . Ms will have a head start which even though sony wnats to deny is a huge plus for them

Only on paper they have an equal chance but in practice you have to bet on Sony for selling the most consoles. Expect Microsoft to double their sales next gen and Sony do consolidate or lose a litle.

There is a common perception called 'demographic' or 'audience'. Usually those who buy Xbox are described as 'hardcore gamer'. Does it change in the next-gen? Also, backward compatibility is not negligible. MS knows it well, so they preferred AMD64 to IA64. Not much people switch from Windows to Mac. It's just inertia for existing audience. You can only count on newly born children and non-gamer to create 'a whole new set of circumstances', which Nintendo seem to be interested in.

While i agree that sony will come out the victor why do you believe that its a sure thing ?

The majority of sonys best selling titles are 3rd party which at any time can switch consoles for the right money . We already see square supporting x360 , what if its more than just a few crappy games ? what if the big guns will apear on the x360 also ? How about konami ? They apear to be supporting ms too . While they aren't putting mgs on the x360 they are promising 2 flagship titles .

Defects are happening and more key 3rd party companys are going multi platform .

Sega went from almost nothing to gainging more than half the market before they moved on to the saturn .

Ms is at 20m units far more than the master system had . I can see ms grabbing most of the market if they make some key moves

I agree MS is very good at buying out whoever so that point stands however..You and I should not want MS to become Market leader this way but luckily this is unlikely to happen.. On a personal note I'm not to hot for game rehashes number 8 aniway and I hope to see lots of originals next gen.

After all that work sneaking out the Sega "next gen" presentation video at E3, I'm hoping for VF5! Gooooooooooo~~~ VF5 for X360!!

SE was BEGGING MS to open up their Live service to be compatible with PlayOnline for the longest time, and MS continually refused

contradicts

MS getting FF XI was a pity move on SE part

Maybe MS made a deal that they would open up LIVE to SE if SE brought FF to 360??

I didn't say I care for RR, simply that I think its the most likely announcement.

Hey, if Namco could pull off a decent follow-up to Ridge Racer Type 4, which is IMO the best RR game ever, I think it could go toe-to-toe with PGR3.

I really don't expect major surprise..most of the times it wasn't even a surprise at all. I do think Ridge Racer is most likely a surprise announcement.
As for hopes of FF or DQ titles for X360, chance is slim to nil....if they even bothered to bring those titles multiplatform, then they would have done it long time ago. If SE would bring any titles to X360, then it would be exclusive title like FF:CC for GC. I think SE is not doing multiplatform simply because it would compromise the quality of the title that they would bring. SE might do a port, but port is never a factor in terms of influencing console race. Like MGS or GTA for Xbox.
If you like Japanese RPG then you would probably get PS3 over X360 because that is what u expect..if you are going to get X360, then chances are you didn't even care about Japanese RPG in the first place. MS is trying to change that but I seriously doubt X360's chances in Japan. X360 will probably become like Megadrive/Genesis...nonfactor in Japan but big presence in other markets.

John Ricciardi is on EGM's review staff in case you didn't know

Could be good folks. There are rumours of Shenmue 3 here -> http://gamesradar.msn.co.uk/news/default.asp?pagetypeid=2&articleid=36451&subsectionid=1586

Shenmue 3 wouldn't be a major coup for MS. I see them trying hard to get big franchises that are mostly associated with PS systems, but it already seems as if DMC, MGS and GTA are locked up on PS3. RE might be up for grabs...One thing MS can't do is rely on H3 and late ports of big 3rd party exclusives. They either need to push to make new big franchises of their own (like they did with Halo this gen) or steal away a few key sequels that will creat a lot of buzz. There needs to be a good balance.

Gta is multiplatform its locked up for ms too . It might actually come out first on the xbox 360

I doubt that it will see it 1st. And i'm having this feeling, it keeps saying that Ps3 is gonna have it timed exclusive again, not because Sony has a deal but because Rockstar chose too.

It could have a very big impact on the xbox 360, MS has to prevent this from happening.

We don't know . We know that ms has thier new wild west game on the next gen systems for awhile before the ps3 comes out .

We also odn't know if the x360 wont get its own gta diffrent from the gta that the ps3 gets

Anyway i think that series hit its peak . There are just way to many versions in such a short time

In 4-5 years we've had or will have

gta 3
gta 3 vice city
gta 3 sa
gta psp
gta next gen

That is alot of games and its a quick way to burn out a series (See tomb raider
