Moore interview pt 2. Confirms lower price for EU.

Ms has to watch pricing . I'm sure they could sell many units at 400e but if sony launched at 400e in a year they wont be able to responed with out looking like they have problems .

You don't want to drop your price untill you really have to and hopefully that is after a solid amount of time on the market or else people will figure something is wrong .

So even if ms prices under what they could have , it would set them into a better spot for next year . That way they can still comand a pricing advantage while not looking like they pulled a desprate price drop

All in all, I still see a long term price war.

I dunno if the ps3 and x360 anylast prices are correct it may not be a price war . Ms may allways have the pricing advantage or if they stay competive they may allow sony to catch up on pricing while they pull in more money per system

I'm feelin a $249 pound launch in the UK, that seems about the sweetspot to me....

I think if MS is concerned about money they realize step 1 is capturing market share, as far as they're concerned the first consoel to reach 10milliom units will win the generation, Moore states this in this very interview.

So I think their true goal is to reach that 10million marker first.

249 pounds ? that be 450$ usd ..... that is a bit much .

I'm thinking 205 pounds 370 usd
300 euros 370usd
450 candian 376 uds
41,134.4 yen 370 usd
Think it would sell really well at those prices

Factoring in higher taxes etc., £250 would be good value in most consumers eyse and 'equivalent' to a US $300. If MS went with £200 at launch, they'd lose a lot of money on the first year's worth of units. The console will sell out at anything under £250 I reckon for the first few hundred units.

The limiting factor it seems to me is likely to be consumer awareness of the system, which isn't affected by price but marketting and social factors (all one's school chums have one), and when PS3 launches how much mindshare that dominates. Trying to win mindshare by dropping prices just doesn't work. You've got to make sure people want your console for what it is and the games it has, and then fit the price to what they can afford. I bought my PS2 when it was a price I was happy paying, but I wanted one before that day. GC is very cheap and good value, but I'm still not inclined to get one as it doesn't have enough of my mind share - I don't equate the platform with games I want. If PS3 comes out and the masses say 'Cor, wow. It's PlayStation!' then a lower priced XB360 isn't going to cut into that market. You won't get 'Cor, wow. It's PlayStation. But I can't afford it, I'll get this other console instead.' More likely you'll get 'Cor, wow. It's PlayStation. But I can't afford it, so I'll save up and await a price drop.' At least, I've never known anyone buy a console when it's not the one they want. I don't know how bad parents are at buying the wrong system for their kids because they don't appreciate the differences.

If I were in charge, I'd target £250 and back it with strong marketting financed with the extra revenue, than enter at a bargain £200 and possibly look 'cheap' next to the competition.

ya but you don't just convert currency using the exchange rate, it doesn't really work like that.

Since most EU consoles have been $299, I think $249 would be perfect as it still can be considered high-end, yet is more affordable to the casual consumer.

Anything under $250 I think they risk coming off as 'cheap'

I think those prices will be pretty close to what MS is looking at. At least that's what I am hoping for.

Oooh more details....looks like the ~250 pund mark is where it's att.

--------------------------------------------------
With announcements due from both Sony and Microsoft at Game Convention in Leipzig tomorrow, rumours at the show suggest that Sony will be dropping its PS2 price point - but that Microsoft may have little news to announce due absence of Robbie Bach, J Allard and Peter Moore.

However, one strong hint about the price point for Xbox 360 did emerge today from Microsoft itself - with a German language page on the company's own website fingering CHF 600.- as the value of the console.
The page, which describes a new initiative offering incentives to resellers who sell certain volumes of Microsoft software, notes that an Xbox 360 console worth 600 Swiss Francs is one of the bonuses on offer. (mirror/backup if MS deletes it)
That translates roughly as 386 Euro, or GBP 264 - which is broadly in line with the upper end of price expectations for the Xbox 360.

BTW: They better not charge is $450 in canada, that would piss me off big time. $399 tops, should give us $350 for being the strongest xbox region in the world. show a little love.
