Microsoft XBOX (XBox One X / Project Scorpio) - Prerelease News and Rumours

If Spencer was only going to talk to DF and not continue marketing and PR in other avenues, that'd be a relevant concern.

And it was the original goal... Beat the PS2 sales is just a stupid goal...

http://in.ign.com/phil-spencer/1001...iginal-goal-was-to-sell-200-million-xbox-ones

200 millions consoles

EDIT: It is a stupid goal for any console maker MS, Nintendo or Sony...

EDIT: And I don't think Phil Spencer think about this now. They are realist about the Scorpio... He thinks the Xbox One S will continue to sold more than the Scorpio the premium product.

Scorpio won't change the games available on the system neither the abysmal UI... As for other things... We'll see. I don't expect any better reception than the PS4 Pro (and I think a number of people still don't even know it exists or what it is, obviously not people here at B3D)
The comparison with the Pro sounds familiar, but I never get it.

Scorpio is the successor of a failed console. PS4 Pro was a little effort by Sony to sell a better machine to play VR games and enhancements. Pro isn't the successor at all of the most successful console of this gen. If you watched the presentation Sony were smart not to hype about Pro, so regular PS4 users didn't feel inferior.

What is Major Nelson trying to say in this tweet? -btw, twitter integration in B3D would be a good thing, it's quite a chore to copy the image link here, the text, etc-.

"Spotted this hanging in one of the hallways on the Xbox campus. One of the many early Xbox Live enabled titles on the Original Xbox."

I can't help but think that people who say DF is being used to validate the specs are actually letting a subconscious slip of the mind of what they in fact use DF for... a validation and confirmation bias tool.

It's a huge scoop for Digital Foundry, that's for sure.

To be honest, the team could totally pull it off if they separated from Eurogamer.

Original xbox emulation?
I have still to complete psyconauts

that would be really nice but, it should be possible on the XB1 easily, so I don't see how it would be a great thing to announce with Scorpio, their 4K machine.

the only thing that would be a surprise that I can think of is a very fast CPU.

Scorpio is the successor of a failed console.
It's not the successor any more than 4Pro is. XB1S is still being sold and supported in full. MS games are coming for both machines. It's just a different way to play the same games, in higher quality if you want to pay a premium.

They both bring in traffic for each other.

More reply ban(s) handed out for bringing Sony into a Microsoft thread. The harsh moderation is because this thread has always suffered derail attempts with non topic items. We're done being nice and accommodating.

Is there another forum/group that is more respected in terms of providing actual tech details and comparisons? They've been harsh on the XB1 and seen as critics of MS, sure. But is that because they are biased or is that because the XB1 is an inferior console to the PS4 and the XB1S is inferior to the PS4Pro?

I see the purpose of tomorrow's event as MS getting either a critic or an unbiased source with tech bonafides to explain to the forum warriors the realities of Scorpio. This leaves MS to focus E3 entirely on gaming and experience and not spend any more time than they already having on boring tech specs.

The event will go badly if Scorpio is nothing more than a slight upgrade over the PS4Pro, leaving the media to run articles bashing it as a mid-gen upgrade and a XB1.5 that you can skip for 2 months of news cycles until E3. Or the event will go positively if the Scorpio is undeniably powerful based on the tech review of DF leaving the media with the choice of not talking about it, talking about what Sony needs to do at E3 to "catch-up" or talking about how MS's E3 presentation should blow everybody away.

Based upon MS's past PR moves, I have no idea which way to expect tomorrow's event to go.

I think you misinterpreted what I meant. I see DF as objective source. But a lot of people simply use it to confirm they're biases and back-up they're fanboyism in the console wars. Read the comments on Digital Foundry's stuff....epically YouTube. It's like 90% console wars/pc master race stuff.

So when I hear complaints about "I don't like DF doing this reveal/I don't think they can remain objective"...what I feel like I'm really hearing is "they are no longer to confirm my biases towards a particular brand/console".

Yea well. Lets not go down that path.
I've a lot to say about that topic, but it's pretty OT. This is an interesting discussion in how Sony is actually very good with strategy. Now, you'll always run into blatant fanboyism, and it's not worth discussing because these are the type of people who aren't capable of thinking critically. The idea of voting with your wallet doesn't even matter to them. Much like certain political supporters, they just won't ever change their mind until their party goes in and murders their dog or something. There is seldom a remedy for extremity, except to wait for them to 'come around'.

But if the console wars were a real time strategy game. DF would be considered a very important point of interest on the map. I am not surprised I am seeing outrage.

Gotcha, yes I misinterpreted what you were saying. I didn't catch that those people who were saying they didn't like DF doing this tech reveal had historical biases on record.

Yeah, DF have a long track record of being much more technically accurate and elaborate than most other outlets. MS choosing them is brilliant because they are the most trusted from the more technically literate, which happens to be pretty much their initial target audience. It means they are confident about scorpio's performance.

Criticism I've seen so far...
PS fans are saying exclusive coverage comes with conditions. So the article could become a publicity piece.
XB fans think DF are not reliable because they made a lot of subjective statements about the PS4 technical advantage over the XB1.

Not unreasonable criticism, but we trust the numbers and technical explanations they provide, we can ignore whatever subjective opinions as noise. Bias cannot get into a technical description of the hardware. What do they think will happen? They'll lie about the internal structure? Lie about the clocks? Or the amount of memory?
