Microsoft press conference

12:54: I get the official Rockstar Games announcement of Grand Theft Auto IV in my e-mail--it says that the game will be release simultaneously on Xbox 360 and PS3. Moore said it was coming to 360 first. What the...?

- PRESS RELEASE:Rockstar Games Announces Grand Theft Auto IV for the Xbox 360(TM) and
PlayStation(R)3 Computer Entertainment System; Next-Generation Console Debut of
The Grand Theft Auto Franchise Set for October 2007 Release

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 9, 2006--
Rockstar Games, the universally-renowned publishing
label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO), is proud
to announce Grand Theft Auto IV, the next-generation console debut of
the genre-defining Grand Theft Auto franchise. Developed by
world-class designers Rockstar North, Grand Theft Auto IV will be
simultaneously available for the PlayStation(R)3 and Xbox 360(TM) and
is currently planned to be in stores in North America on October 16,
2007 and in Europe on October 19, 2007.

Gotcha, well i guess the question is if the downloadable stuff is exclusive since clearly the PS3 will have the ability to do that as well.

Still an uptick for Xbox from the last gen though with SOny have the timed exclusive.

That makes... no sense.

So all the hubbub and tatooing simply over exclusive episodic content?

At the very least, this is a strong indication that the title will launch simultaneously on both consoles, OR it will be a timed 360 exclusive. I don't think they wouldn't have done all that if they were keeping the status quo.

Heh, I have to give MS credit for giving the big announcement. There will be misinformation for weeks over it being an exclusive. ;)

With 360 most likely having a larger userbase by then, what's your take on this Titanio?

They may be even stevens at that point, but if the above were true it would simply mean more people might buy it on 360? I don't know. All I know is it'll be available to the most number of people at that time between the two platforms, which is a good thing.

12:55: Moore gets on stage and gives recap. Says games will all be playble, then Gates says "Hey Peter, let's play these people a snippet of a game they might like to see..." Crowd goes wild, trailer comes up. Halo theme plays, scen of a wartorn wasteland. Long figure can be seen therogh the smoke. Cortana alerts screen. MASTER CHIEF WALKS OUT.

If nothing else, MS has taken away the time-exclusive from Sony, which probably sold a lot of PS2s.

The downloadable exclusive content won't be free of course.

What if the Blu-Ray version had more content?

The Halo3 teaser is very nice, seems like Bungie might be gunning to wrap it as a trilogy..? "Finish the fight"?

And technically speaking, it could be that each console has it's own exclusive content anyway. I wouldn't be suprised if Sony/Rockstar had something similar in the works.

Still, good news for MS that it's going to be released at the same time. Atleast that means that Sony isn't going to get it first.

So the GTA4 is just a multiplatform simultaneous release.
Some guys have rubber ducks and CGI videos, other guys have tattoos... with nothing else to show
No, sorry. GTA for xbox360 at the same time is almost as good news as it being exclusive, it means GTA is no longer a deciding factor to go for PS3 (at least GTA4).

I'm surprised Sony had nothing to say of GTA4, or maybe not as there doesn't yet seem to be much else to show but a name and date.

So was there a Halo3 trailer?

With Vista integration, Sony just got ran over on the Online portion of things.

From a user standpoint, this is the ultimate in convenience.

Yes, all those Vista users. :) And of course, everyone is going to rush right out and buy Vista whenever Microsoft fixes all the bugs and finally gets it out the door.

X-Box Live has been integrated online via Web for a while now, going back to the XBOX1, yet I NEVER use it. I'm not sure Vista integration is a big selling point for me or users. People don't even know what Vista is yet, so how can they be excited about Vista integration when they are not even Vista users?

It's peculiar, because they certainly could have announced more. And that stuff probably will get announced independently by publishers over E3 (well, I'm thinking of one particular announcement here, anyway). It would have more impact all in one go, but I guess they want to leave publishers to reveal things as they please.

Wow XBL arcade is gonna by huge.

Hi-Def and some online multiplayer with tons of back catalog classics, Konami, Sega etc well represented.
