Microsoft press conference

Game lobbies are trivial to write. Everyone has done them. GameSpy, EA, BattleNet, Steam, Yahoo, etc. If Sony has a hard time writing this, I'll offer my services to code it up in less than 6 months.

We don't need mindless speculation that Sony is incapable of delivering online shopping, authentication, billing, stat tracking, and game lobby...

AsI said. Let me know when they actually do it, or at least demo what they've got. It's one thing to say it's possible and that your left nut can code one up. It's another thing to do it right....in a way that users "get it."

Ok, I've looked at both, Ms and Sony presentation.
I've missed some video, but there are some much video at this time that some server are too slow for me...
First I've almost set my mind on the 360.
Why? (who give a shit lol).

1) I love RPG but more Pc like RPG (i'm a baldur guy ont a ffXXX one, a matter of taste I know). Bioware being Ms exclusive appeal me a lot. Mass effect, possiblely a jade empire episode and a new kotor +more d&d3 I love so much...

2) I've lot of interest in online gaming, i hope that gaming community on console will less "no life" than the online PC community. But barbare kind of gaming can be painfull. At this point I still haven't see something coming from Sony, not the service as demododer it's not a tought job, but more game taking advantage of online...

3) Pc will alwys stay for me the media center, not matter what.
The interactivity between the 360 and vista has more appeal to me than the superior Ps3 media abilities.

4) I'm far from rich... And for what I want from my console Ms is more in my price range, I can buy a premiun 1 or 2 games pay some month of gold online subscription for the price of the premium PS3 or slightly more than the core Ps3. In fact the second interest me more.
If i buy a console (ps3 or 360) most of the i'll play on a sdtv and time to time throught my pc monito if the game needs lot graphic accuracy.

5)On a technical point of view, I don't care that much for xAA, i prefer graphic sharpness, so without games, I shoud lean for the ps3.
I think 360 should try to put the most amazing stuff on screen without think off AA, the lack of AF peace me off more than lake of AA, more i'll play in 640x480 (wich already blur thing). I want hight IQ.

6) GAMES annoucement before chrismmas can still change my mind, the same for a bigger gap between system as far as graphics are concerned.

i'm a thirty causual gamer, but video game is an old passion.

Halo3 was in realtime..

The Bungie representatives made it clear to us that the trailer was running in real-time on the Xbox 360. The trailer is set in the African desert, and it was taken from roughly a third of the way through the game. Cohen noted that the constant battling has taken its toll on Master Chief, and you can see that by the many scars and gouges in his armor. The flashes of Cortana seen in the trailer fill you in on the state of her mind, and the Forerunner structure seen in the distance at the end of the trailer represents a pivotal point in the story.

We next met with Marcus Lehto, Bungie's art director, who filled us in on the technology as he gave us a fly through of the locations in the trailer. The crater seen in the trailer is three miles across, and it's all rendered in real geometry. Halo 3 has a new global lighting system that now lights everything uniquely from the same source, which explains just how that setting sun looked that good as it illuminated everything in the trailer. Halo 2, on the other hand, used a lighting system that lit everything separately. Meanwhile, parallax mapping is able to give depth to structures in the distance, such as the clouds above the crater. A new particle system offers different levels of light diffusion to take the quality of the atmosphere into account, and that makes for different layers of light.

The demo shifted away from the crater to the part of the level you see the Master Chief walking in from. He was controllable, which means that the trailer indicates just how good the game will look. Lehto was able to zoom in on the Master Chief with the camera, and you could see the many different ways light reflected objects onto him. For example, you could see light reflect off the ground and onto his armor. A new materials system shows the difference between his armor and the rubber undersuit. It's so detailed that if you bring the camera close to the Master Chief's visor, you see everything in front of him reflected in it, right down to the ammo counter in his rifle.

Well I've checked out this conference a bit. Something I'm not sure of though. Firstly, do we know any realtime footage shown from the big announcements? As I understand it, Fable 2, Halo 3, were teaser trailers and not in game? :???: Same with Blue Dragon, which was the same footage from last year or TGS I think. After the previous in game scenery and character demos I was hoping for some real game footage. I guess what I'm after is how much is MS taking a leaf out of Sony's playbook and showing 'CG simulations' and 'enhanced promo material' to get people talking, and how much was showcasing real games as they actually play? Of the major titles I watched, there doesn't seem to have been any game footage and it's mostly pre-rendered I think.

I certainly got that feel. Last year MS showed alot of real footage, and they got completely slammed for it. Seems this year, they said fug-it, and just showed CG for almost everything. I guess we can thank the keen video game journalists from last years E3 for that.

Does anyone else think that fable has some real game elements mixed in? Download the trailer on Live, and pause it, as the scene transition from the forest to the town, that town looks very very nice and definately something I could picture being realtime.

I think the lesson learned was to ONLY show things that are ready to be shown, not everything youre working on regardless of its state. The difference here and Sony last year is that theyre not hiding whats real and whats concept CGI, whereas that wasnt always the case with Sony last year. (or was it just the developer?)

On fable, i dont see why they would bother mixing in some realtime in the video, since its clear that the rest of it is prerendered.

Ya , I dunno, but it clearly transitions from a forest that could never be realtime, to a town scene, that looks very much like it could be realtime. Just kinda stood out to me.

Microsoft certainly isn't making clear what's real or otherwise, and at least one person isn't so sure :) How does it make Microsoft different?

I never said anyone had to declare what is or isnt realtime, but if youre asked, you should tell the truth about it dont you think?

Is showing super high-res textures of buildings, and claiming that they're in-game textures, comparable to what you're being upset about?

I dont know what incident youre referring to but clearly i'm being set up for you to pull back the covers on some MS conspiracy, so why dont you just spill it already. :)

But to answer your question, no, i dont think thats the same as fabricating an entire 'crown jewel'-type trailer and lying when asked if it was realtime on your console's hardware.

You seem to be grossly uninformed. All PGR3 screens released were real-time. There are several pictures off peoples HDTVs to prove it.

If you're talking about killzone, no one from Sony or Guerilla ever said it was real realtime :)

so halo3 is realtime...quite impressive :) ............................ so how about forza 2 and fable 2 are they confirmed realtime or cg?????
