Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard King for $69 Billion on 2023-10-13

Maybe you're into something you didn't see that you could explain why Ubisoft is willing party here : protection it gives them against acquisition from big players thanks to CMA.
And what if they want to be acquired, which to my understand is the case at the moment.

It would be likely that in the contract if Ubisoft is sold MS can buy back the rights if they choose or they automatically go back to MS. I doubt Ms would skip over something like this. could even be a provision that MS would have the opportunity to bid on ubisoft itself before a competitor can buy it

Yeah I'm sure, but the problem with the latter is that they'd be essentially erasing any provision for cloud gaming the CMA have forced here. Buying their way out of this deal.

well the solution is for Ubisoft not to be bought which of course would insure much better competition in the cloud market to begin with.

I also doubt that the CMA will care as any purchase would likely be years away at this point and it would wrap up all this business after all the deal is already timed at 15 years for new ip anyway. So if in 5 years or 10 years if Ubisoft is purchased I think the intended effect (which is nothing) will be accomplished

I am going to assume the next step is after the purchase is complete MS and Ubi will announce UBI+ as part of game pass ultimate. Just this announcement increased ubi stock 2-3 dollars a share making a ubi purchase even more expensive than it was a few days ago. We could also see ubisoft and Ms develop a closer relationship, perhaps more marketing deals driving more moeny over to ubi and increasing market cap more so

Sony should buy Ubisoft then own Microsoft's cloud gaming platform.

I'm joking, this would be a terrible idea.

Yea but the UK would make Sony divest the ubi assets for cloud as to not allow them a monopoly. So then another company will have alll the rights to ubisoft games while sony has the abk titles. Then MS buys that company just to make things more confusing

Or simply require Ubisoft to sell its ABK rights to a third party prior to an acquisition that MS doesn’t approve of.

We still dont know if its the same guy pretenting not to be the same guy. Neogaf can comment only on the account that exists in their forum. Everything else came from users doing the "detective" work

What does Ubisoft get? Cloud gaming rights to existing titles only, or somehow future titles?

Edit : From notes

Microsoft is proposing to purchase Activision, excluding cloud gaming rights for existing and future Activision PC and console games released over the next 15 years (excluding in the European Economic Area).

So Ubi gets license rights for games MS funds. I presume there's a predetermined payment deal there so Ubi has to pay MS to get those titles for Cloud distribution. Otherwise it's ripping off MS's work! And MS has to license its games from Ubi to distribute on their cloud platform?

yup, so basically no change from the status quo. They can basically allow cloud to operate like the way it currently is, which is a bidding system. I suppose if Ubisoft sets the price too high, we won't see it on cloud, and therefore we won't see it on gamepass or subservices. It's not likely to happen because Ubisoft's only asset is to sell the rights, so we shouldn't see exclusivity and hold out (versa ABK, who could profit significantly more off of COD standard sales). Unless Ubisoft plays some weird 4D chess where they somehow manage to prop their own IPs by holding out on COD.

"cloud gaming" means just streaming or gamepass subscription too?
Just streaming. But all games (the only streamable games on Xbox) on gamepass are streamable. Gamepass PC would be the exception to that rule though since PC and Xbox have different titles on their platform.
