MGS2 tearing

To be honest no, but I've played a little of it and have seen people play it and since we're talking about graphics and not gameplay, it shouldn't make any difference whether I completed the game myself or not. I've never claimed the gameplay was bad or compromised by the graphical glitches.

see, then you shouldn't have posted anything in this thread to begin with...

only if you played through the game (even more than once) you would know how many little details make mgs2 as beautiful as most people say.

but you only look for bump mapping and hi res textures don't you....

little things like the particles of water falling off your character when he comes out of the water... the particles in the explosions... the amazing undewater effects (especially the lighting)...

this just means that you really do not have anything to say in this thread...

The one where you have to disarm the bombs on the plaform where the tearing is quite obvious and some other parts don't know what level. My friend just handed my the controls ;)

Umm..don't have to beat it to see it ;)

I was complaining about in game graphics not cutscenes or gameplay btw...you were saying?

If people who beat the game don't remember witnessing tearing then.... ;)

i'm not talking about the cut scenes mate... please do yourself a favour, just stop posting about things you don't know anything about....

and FYI i only played through MGS2 once... still it is probably the best looking game i've ever played... at least for the effects..

Like the gimmicky physics based falling glass shards? :p

Best looking game to YOU yes...

I'm pretty sure there are also many people who have beaten the game and still thought it wasn't the best looking they've seen let alone the second coming... ;)

MGS2 is a weird game.
At first glance, it does not have the wow factor, even after a 2nd and 3rd look, it does not have any super graphics.
No crazy textures like Enclave or ligthing effects of Splinter Cell.

But as you play on, it just looks, well, appealing.
Like Metriod Prime, it does not use advanced graphics effects but everything comes together surprisingly well.

Hard to describe, but it just looks 'complete'. Maybe it is the artwork, maybe it is the cinematic direction, it is hard to pinpoint why MGS2 looks appealing.

Fair enough :)

However, I will admit that the in game graphics when you're sneaking around in the rain did impress me because it hasn't been done before AFAIK until MGS2 ;)

Fair enough - so you played and seen a very small fraction of the game. To really comment on the graphics though, shouldn't you at least experience the whole game? There are so many parts of the game that are just amazing graphically - like the tanker episode for instance. The part where after the engine room where you walk through this hallway in complete darkness, only equiped with your gun and torch hooked on to it. Then outside the ship, inside the platform thingy... it only gets better. Also, the physics engine has more to it than just watching glasses explode upon shooting them. In fact, you can shoot pretty much anything in the game and expect some correct physical stuff resulting from it. Shoot into steam pipes, shoot magazines, lamps, mellons, boxes, bags... the list goes on and on. The game features so much more "attention to detail" than any game I know on the market, yet you critize them for taking 3 years and because of one small graphical aspect TEARING which I myself even failed to notice.

j/k

Yeah after awhile, arguing over differences of opinions gets kinda stale :)

I understand your point, but there are also those who've beaten the game that too say they weren't that impressed with it graphically. I just think it depends on what games a person has had experienced in the past. Some people get spoiled because they've pretty much seen eveything that had been doen, while others who might be new to videogaming may be more easily impressed.

.......... still there..............

anyway, this has got nothing to do with this topic, but...

why is it that in some areas in ICO they havent even used Bilinear Filter on the textures!?! is it a glitch in my copy?!?!?! is it my PS2?!?!? the textures are just not filtered at all in some areas, they look like PS1 textures..............
