Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain & Ground Zeroes

I need to try GZ again but both times I've tried to play it before the controls have made me want to throw the DualShock4 through a window.

I'll play with alternate control schemes because I desperate want to like this game and I know if I can get past the controls, I will.

At release it wasn't possible but you can now customize the controls via the accessibility menu on PS4 so you should have no problems.
You can't re-assign the touchpad.

You don't have to...it has an option for standard shooter controsl.

@DSoup YOu should play MGS2 and 3....the dumbification of controls over each game since then has also led lesser options a player has. COntextual controls just don't let you do what you want when you want. those older games gave a lot of freedom.

ah i probably cant play MGSV at launch...
but if the destiny video we (thx renegade, tranner, and co) shot a few days ago can get nice view count...... yay

@DSoup

played MGS GZ on PC and PS4 (thanks PS Plus)... the shooting control using gamepad is stressful...
playing on PC have nicer shooting control but doesnt feel right. dunno because it is odd or because my PC only can run it around 30-40fps...

i remember playing MGS2 on pc years ago and it does feel odd (especially with the sword mission) but nicer shooting Vs PS2.

@RenegadeRocks

I personally didn't have problems with controls in MGS GZ, I only chose one the alternative scheme the one closer to MGS controls (SQUARE for melee, X for crouch, etc..) but being able to re-bind buttons has proved very useful in Bloodbore and the WItcher 3.

Anyway the option is there and it can be of great thus why I "recommend it".

Just a reminder, MGSV review embargo ends in a bit over 2 hours [5PM Pacific time]. At the same time, Greg Miller will release on YT first in his series of lets plays [he will play first five missions over next week, he will not show opening chapter in hospital]. No one else has access to the video stuff during pre-release.

So after reading some reviews they kinda cemented my initial fear about this entry, apparently Africa and Afghanistan are the only two major locales to play throughout the entire game, a very weak focus on story, boss battles not as important as previous entries and the poor to average graphics don't help either. I really don't feel like spending 40+ hours roaming in the same, sparse, low res environment doing the same fulton and stuffs. The buddy gameplay seems to be the most interesting tho but it alone could not sustain my interest for the whole game. Yeah, not even the graphics are that good either, 60fps really killed any interesting techs that may be present otherwise. Looks like it's gonna be the first MGS game for me to pass :(.

Time to go offline...not reading anyhitng, not watching anything ! Did see perfect 10s and 9.25s everywhere ! Made me goo gaga, over the moon, trippy,silly, blushy, mushy and stoopid :rolleyes: !

HELL YEAH KOJIMA SAN !!!! :cool::cool::cool: Its a HIdeo Kojima Game suckers !!!

Amazing reviews all around. IGN and Gamespot gave it 10/10, and nobody yet gave it below 9/10.

That is a non-issue for me. MGS1 had one small location, MGS2 two [one very small], MGS3 one, and MGS had 4 small ones. MSGV offers incredibly much more terrain and variations in gameplay [shitton of bases, facilities, undeground complexes, natural landmasses [forests, etc]].

Also, don't agree. MGSV has one of the best lightining systems I saw in a game so far, great animations, char detail, AI, and much more. Sure, landmass polygon count could be higher, but this is a crossgen game [one of the last ones] that still manages to look fucking amazing [while running at 60fps, which is a rarity for modern AAA games].

For a high budget game such as this, having only two major locales really doesn't do it justice no matter how varied the map is. Admittedly at times the lighting could be photorealistic but the game is highly inconsistent in terms of visuals. I don't wanna list all the shortcomings coz after all it is a cross gen title like you said. But the most disappointing aspect is the lack of story focus or more specifically the masterfully executed cutscenes this series is known for, especially for a grand finale no less. At this point I'm still giving it the benefit of doubt since I haven't played it yet, but I hope I get proved wrong tho.

Are you one of those people who thinks that 1 locale = just one gameplay experience? Africa is one map... but there is a big difference between savannah, jungle, rocky terrain, mountanous terrain, river beds, canyon rivers, urban areas, etc, and all those are in MGSV [with TOD/weather changes]. This is not Star Wars where one planet = one type of terrain/ecosystem.

Do any reviews mention the controls? Let's not beat about the bush, are they the same as GZ?

Far Cry 2 was set in Africa and had great diversity in the map. :yep2:

Hm, I might have underestimated the potential variety of environments but I haven't seen that many videos of this game anyway. I hope we get to explore most of Africa.
