seems like there's a lot of screen tearing going on in MGS4

this is extremely annoying especially for a game that is running 30fps at sub 720P res with PS2 level textures

Grrr... I watched the video because of your post. I don't think you need to worry. The video/game looks smooth. The footage you posted is a subset of that intro because it's the only publicly available sequence to date.

The production value (animation and all) is insane (!). I am extremely happy with what I see in Killzone 2 or MGS4 (Don't know which one is more impressive though, they are both so unique)

EDIT: I believe the screen tears happen in this clip: http://www.gametrailers.com/player/33929.html
There're lot's of actions and particle effects going on. I am sure we will have the full analysis after the game is released.

those shots were captured from the videos uploaded today at GT

Oh it looked like it was from the old videos. My mistake

There is nothing to worry about though since atleast the three of these images are taken from the exact same area that the old demo took place, which was literally a war zone with lots of things happening at once

added one more shot which is from a cut scene, and it still tears.. quite badly

I think the cutscene is real-time, as long as there're lots of action, we will see some screen tear. Btw, what is the url to that cutscene ?

Well I did say atleast three ;)

But as you have probably noticed from the GT movies it doesnt happen often. There are other videos too that show no screen tearing at all.

I've seen no screen tear in the MGO beta.
Odd. Wouldn't the builds of the games be the same or similar?

Either that, or this footage was created a while back.

Yes, MGO has no screen tear. MGS4 has a lot more action going on though. It's only 4-5 weeks away. Many of us will lay our wet little hands on the game soon. By that time, we will have lot's of measurements for the final game. :)

I could've lived with the screen tearing if MGS4 had a visual level of Uncharted,

Com'on the game's running 30fps at sub 720P with some of the worst textures even for PS3

If what I'm seeing is what actually happens in game, I'd be very very disappointed

Thanks for the link.

Is that a fair comparison ? MGS4 has a larger scope. I remember Uncharted has a little bit of tearing too.

My condolescences. It is kinda sad that you reduce a great game down to 2 numbers.

going by the 13 minute trailer, mgs4 went with a similar direction as mgs3 that i wish it didnt follow

based off the trailer alone, there are more cinematics than gameplay...there was like 1 minute of playing vs the 12 minutes of cinematics, granted this is the intro so im hoping it just happens in the beginning to familiarize the gamer with the story

According to this reviewer: http://www.gamesradar.com/ps3/metal...a-20080512143146234035/g-20051216153655522074

...his total game time (guesstimate) was over 29 hours. 2/3 gameplay (19 hours), 1/3 movie (10 hours). That's more than enough game time for me. Most MGS fans like the movie aspect. It's supposed to conclude Snake's story. We may need to bare with the length because there will be no more in the future.

I'll have to see how much I like it. I only played the first one and the PSP ones.

EDIT: I forgot about MGO too. If you want additional play time, go PSN.

Hey man, c;mon, you have got time. You have got to play MGS3 patsu! I think its the best game story in the world ! I bloody almost cried at the end, and I have never done that before ,(except for when I saw "love Story" in my college:oops:) I have played only MGS3, and now I have got MGS2 started playing it last night!

Go buy it Patsu !!!

graphically MGS4 looks pretty weak, maybe the above captures aint the best quality but the lighting/palette looks crap.
i am curious about it though, since ive heard so much raving about the MGS 'experience' over the years
