Last of Us [PS4]

I can definitnely see the blue splotch in the middle of the pic.

I'm not getting the cannon/gun in the top left though. Are you sure you're not just confusing the shapes of the leaves there?

don't think so, it's a grey gun-metal colour at the very top left and corner - partially covered by leaves - if you expand the main picture it sticks out quite a bit as a grey curve

Aaaah, i see what you mean now... The out of focus whiteish greyish thing.

it's pretty impossible to tell what it is, however its cetainly something being occluded by the leaves.

Good spot ;-)

the more I look the more I think that is a part of something bigger in the top corner...but here's the odd thing...if that were a gun (or some sort) it's pointing to the bottom right - looking at that corner I can make out an eye and possible tooth/claw...or maybe I've had too much sugar today! lol

Why don't you think that it's in-engine?
...

The implied detail of the leaves correlating to the detail everywhere in the game would lead one to question if this was "real-time/in-engine" but a scripted event within the engine where high detail textures can be used for a scene is certainly plausible and doable.

I just wouldn't expect such texture detail everywhere in the game on a 512mb Ram console.

I remember in the Move tech demos, there was an example using Move as a torch in a survival horror setting. I hope this is not like the normal zombie or "horror" games where enemies jump at the player every minute.

I repeat, that texture detail isn't particularly remarkable or high fidelity enough so as to make me believe that it would be impossible on a console with 512 MB of RAM. You can't look at the texture detail on a leaf and extrapolate that to an entire game anyway... that's not even a reasonable assumption to make.

Especially given that we know next to nothing about the game. For all we know it could be a PSN game which consists solely of a character running around a tiny confined space in the middle of a forest so beautifully rendered that even the pores on the underside of each leaf can been seen at the microscopic level.

My point is really that there's little shown in that pic to suggest that it can't be done in-engine or even in game on a PS3, PC or even iPad.

Looking at the texture detail on the leaf again you can clearly see some pixelation on the bigger leaves on the right hand side. Also the leaves are just instanced object in that scene so i can't see how that would be particularly RAM intensive for a console game.

I've seen much more impressive and higher fidelity textures in games like gears, Red Dead Redemption or KZ3. So there's nothing shown yet indicating that specific scene it "too awesome" to be in a PS3 game.

If it were a bug game just hoping from leaf to leaf, I'd agree.

But seeing what the game is, I don't think it's a fair assumption.

I see where your coming from, but my only point is extrapolating that level of texture detail throughout the game will lead to disappointment.

Not a single game this gen has replicated that level of texture detail across the expanse of the game.

(Note: not an argument but more of an debate)

Not to labour the point, but my original point was that the particular level of texture detail in question in that pic is not even high at all. So i would say that many if most games that have come out on the PS360 in recent times have displayed that level of and even better texture detail accross their entire gameworlds.

I just don't think that the texture detail we can see in that pic is particularly remarkable.

Did you play heavy rain kagemaru?

What did you think?

Still haven't played it, it's up there with a list of other games I have but never even started up yet. I did enjoy the demo though.

Loved Omikron and really liked Indigo Prophecy, so I'm sure I'll like Heavy Rain. Still disappointed we haven't gotten an Omikron 2 yet too

When looked at on it's own, I can see why you'd say that, but looking at the context of what data is represented is what leads me to present cautious tones.

We are talking about a relatively high texture on leaves for a game that isn't limited to just a forest. I don't think it's a coincidence that Crysis2 left the island for the console focused game :p.

I don't expect to be able to read the spines of magazines in games targeted for xb360/ps3 with only 512mb ram because the systems have to render the rest of the game world.

Who knows, I could be wrong here and maybe Sony will really push streaming and fully utilize the BRD.

Damn it! Too late.

Maybe it's a ND game?
Or is this like inFamous 2 referencing other games?

Maybe the U1 zombie virus spread through the whole world.

:D

*Fist bump*

I thought i was the only one to play that game.

The day Omikron 2 is announced is the next day i cry tears of joy.
