There's a strange disconnect there, why do you get so upset when people point that out and discuss it??

I don't think there's a problem with talking about it. And like Acert said some people just suck at taking screenshots. You could do this to any game if the marketing people/interns are bad enough in their screenshot selection skillz.

You mean like this rock in the middle of the ocean? Does this real life rock look detached to you? Does the water look to flat in the real life picture also?

Oh and the pics are resized because B3D has a size limit. I believe that size limit is 800 x 600.

At least we now have few people stood up and said what is right.
Trolls are like infection.

It's not about using the 'WORST' shots around, these are all from the same batch, hell we're looking at the exact same monster here, one shot from above looks great, the other from below looks like crap.

Quality is the SAME.They're just taken from a DIFFERENT ANGLE.

I wouldnt say they are always the same quality. Some pics suffer a lot. For example in the examples he posted the dragons seem to suffer from low polygons and blurry textures while in the ones you posted this isnt the case

Mckmas,

are you saying that these images

istockphoto_31200_ocean_view_while_sailing_3.jpg

istockphoto_280634_ocean_rock.jpg

look the same to you as this screenshot

and this one

and you can't notice any significant differences?

In that case I may have to get back to my pseudo-screenshot and apply a few changes...

Is it just me or most of this discussion is completely insane and pointless?
I'm gone to ignore this thread by now

The ones from Lair are better. I mean they not better than real life but they're easier to the eyes than real life.

I'm glad to announce that I've finally earned some neg rep too, thanks - you know who you are ;)

I got 2 already from the "joke" I made. I've cleared the issue up with the first person who did it, but I still don't know who did it the second time.

I am astonished at the five-star rating of this shitstorm.

Not astonished that the thread has become a shitstorm. Every single thread about Lair has turned into one. And if you probe your memory banks you will remember taht it was generally for the same reason taht things have devolved here.

Specifically: Images from this game have been all over the map. The entire art style has actually changed looks. We had one pic that looked like a PSP game (remember that? Hardknock was in love with that one. :D )

This could be because the game's development is interneally in sort sort of aweful mess we don't know about. Or it could be due to some poor management of preview media. Who knows.

The fact is that screenshot quality has been so dramatically hit and miss that strained attempts to critically discuss them are drowned out by those who are all to excited about this title's success or failure.

Killzone. Another PS3 poster-boy that instantly turns threads to shit. Why? Becasue the little there is to discuss has been discussed and put to rest. It's now just an excuse for inflamatory posts and brick wall arguments. Wisely, Steven decided to put a lockdown on all Killzone "discussion".

I'm a little embarrassed that we, as a community, have turned Killzone into a dirty word and can't be trusted to talk about it. Let's not do that to Lair, as well.

Lock this thread and burn it.

Shitstorm indeed. We can criticize LAIR all we want, but there is nothing we can do about the direction Factor 5 is taking it. You'll either love it or hate it.....

Why do some people have a huge hardon for locking threads? Granted some posts are just nitpicking back and forth but in the midst of it all I would say we are still debating art direction and the progression or regression of the graphics. When the game is finally released I wouldn't mind seeing this thread brought back to life and re-affirming what we once thought and finally putting to rest what was negative/hype.

instead of "locking" the thread why not just watch the thread the next couple of days first and remove the posts from now on that don't add to the discussion. Seriously lets try to "fix" the problem first, THEN when all else fails lock it....it shouldn't be a first resort.

Dregun

P.S. I haven't even posted to this thread and I don't want it locked.

This was a good thread in the first 2 pages, when people were speculating about Factor5 using a multi-sampled backbuffer as a front buffer. Was there ever a resolution about that?

Sorry but I'm a retard and you said "huge hardon". : p

I was formulating a response to your post -which is good, btw- and I slipped into a bit of a giggle fit thinking: "Why yes, Mister Dregun, Sir. I do appear to have a huge hardon! Thank you for noticing, good sir! Do give my regards to the Misses; and those of my huge hardon as well."

I'm so sorry. Still laughing. If this is funny to anyone else, I suggest you not admit it.

The ones he posted hereare some of the oldest shots of the game. The ones I posted are from the latest batches. Mystery solved.

OK after reading the first 5 pages of this thread i started to skip the rest and moved onto the last page and there are many complains about Lair's art direction.

To me some of the shot looks outstanding especially the water shot but there are some that just look like scrap. In order to make sense of all of this inconsistency from Factor 5 we must step back and look at the big picture and assume that firstly the game is not complete just yet and the platform they are developing on are new and might take times to get the best out of it so all aspects might not be perfected yet such as the dragon needs more work, the fire and etc, having said that some aspects already look good this includde the water, the main character and maybe the rocks.

This quality of inconsistency suggested to us that this game is in progress and thus some parts looks good and some dont so please people just give the game and the developers more time to come up with the goods.

Have a good day everyone.

Guess I could have said "Why do some people have a Major Hardon for locking threads" As AI's Ryan Seacrest coined during a past episode it could be a "complidiss"

Either way I'm glad you got a laugh out of it, luckily I don't find myself saying such things very often or I might get some funny looks from people I don't want them from!

No it does not. The Lair ones you pointed out sure do, not only for me. Oh and in that second pic the water near the rocks looks more like mist.
Please stop drawing real life comparisons. I say it again it does look good. Thats it.
