I think the latest screens look better but fall way short of the target renders. Coming from an art background I have to agree with Yosh, it's sloppy and rushed. Isn't this game supposed to be coming out soon?

They were never CGI mind. These "target renders" were actually real time and they were available to to try with the SIXAXIS (I think during GDC 2006). The game was still a tech demo then though. It wasnt exactly playable. You could only freeze and rotate the camera and marvel the graphics. It looked splendid in every way.

Drops, wet surfaces on the dragons, lighting from thunders custed on their skins, impressive clouds etc

Which reminds me....what happened to the skin and muscle deformation which devs talked about in the past and showed in that demo?

Looking at the stills, it doesn't look that way to me, basically because the lighting on the scales etc. is back-to-front with light direction. Maybe in motion it looks okay, but I have serious doubts.
The angle of the shots is different. It seems that in the second shots, judging by where the light comes from the shadows are obviously not projected onto the visible part shown in the picture.

You missed the argument. I was saying some screens have aspects comparable to PS2 games. Look at the brown/green monster here and the dragons here, and then the monsters here and here.

The models and textures and effects in use are comparable, no?
How about these ones:

Let's also forget that SoTC just have to render the colossus in a completely low detail-barren environment, with no other enemies on screen and a hell of a lot less things Lair does. Seriously, you're trying too hard and it shows.

He said some shots, SOME. You should just slow down and read before getting so defensive.

The game looks good, is it jaw dropping, or amazing stuff? Not really, but it's starting to get there.

Thank you :) I like the monster designs, the waters/coast and the sense of scale. I look forward to the entire game world coming to life (Better animate well, F5).

Er... any Zelda fishing mini-game here ? If the worm is so big, I can't imagine the fish ;)

Did you forget that the game is a open world. Like Oblivion and Saints Row?

If this is true it would be very cool, but open world games are never the best looking games anyways, so if this is true, then I wouldn't be looking to LAIR as a showpiece game.

Anyways, do you have a link to them discussing the open nature of the game?? My interest has been piqued!

The second trailer is CGI and isn't the same as the first trailer which was realtime and could be manipulated.

Some levels are more open than others, but I don't think the game is open like Oblivion or Saint's Row. Eggebrecht even said that some levels are strictly linear. On the whole, I don't see that Lair is a distinctly more open game than the Rogue Squadron games on the GC. Some levels are bigger, yes, but much of that can be attributed to hardware capability.

Ya, that's what I thought. Seemed awfully ambitious to do a game like this in the form of Oblivion, or even saint's row.

Alright.

1. The beautiful look of the sunlight hitting the ocean water. Haven't really seen a game do it as well as that picture before.

Reminds me of this real pic

2. I love the look of the rocks in the ocean. I've seen that same rocks in the ocean look before in real-life and I think they pulled it off well.

3. The transporter/huge beast. Artisically it looks great to me.

4. The scale of the beast compared to the dragon. And better yet the scale of the beast compared to the main character.

5. The actual ocean itself.

There you go my top 5 reasons why that pic looks great to me.

2. You love the rocks that kinda Float on the water? I don't know about you but they look a bit detached!?

5. The ocean? or the Lightsource which makes it look good from that angle? (The water is terrible, (looks all flat))

There are better screens. It does look good but is miles away from what they first intended. (Speaking of Lighting that is.)

PS. Why are the screenshots resized?

My bad. It looks like each area in the area is open (ie the desert/tundra/jungle/etc) but the whole game isn't.

You mean like this rock in the middle of the ocean? Does this real life rock look detached to you? Does the water look to flat in the real life picture also?

Oh and the pics are resized because B3D has a size limit. I believe that size limit is 800 x 600.

Which one was the second trailer? I remember just one. And thst single trailer looked just as impressive as I described (that same trailer was used 2 times. One uncontrollable and one controllable)

What's the point of using the WORST screenshots you can find to try to prove a bad argument? Seriously.

What's the point in continuing a debate with someone who jhas such a hard time understanding simple little concepts.

Shifty - This game looks great in some screens, and almost PS2 like in others.
You - Oh ya...what about THESE shots?
Shifty - uh..well...I said some of the screens look amazing
You - Oh ya, well what is the point in using the worst screenshots you can find??

I mean, obviously you're missing the entire point, which was simply that there is a strange disparity between some shots and others.

It's not about using the 'WORST' shots around, these are all from the same batch, hell we're looking at the exact same monster here, one shot from above looks great, the other from below looks like crap.

There's a strange disconnect there, why do you get so upset when people point that out and discuss it??
