Kojima leaves Konami to start new Studio *Confirmed*

Microsoft doesn't really have much in the way of a development presence in Japan.
They didn't have much presence in Japan when they orchestrated, managed and funded the development of Blue Dragon for the 360. Signing up with big publisher may not be something Kojima wants to do, he may prefer to setup and manage the studio himself with funding, which is easy to do at arms length.

He could probably break a new kickstarter funding record if he gets his team together and pitches a new Snatcher game for PC and consoles. He's got all the right ingredients from a great team, an illustrious record, and some big titles in his reportoir.

Kojima really wouldn't need Kickstarter. He probably has people throw money at him.

Probably, but he also seems like the type who would find the Kickstarter idea quite appealing.

What make's you say this? He strikes me the kind of person who wants to dedicate 100% of his focus on the game's development and, as he has said, strongly believes that games are ready when they are ready. Failing to deliver to goals because the game is not ready and risk disappointing investors/fans seems at odds with this. As does having to divide his time between the investor community and the game.

WHo says Kojima himself has to divide his time between the investor/fan community and the game? He can just hire a community manager like all the other devs do.

On the flip side however, Kojima loves being the public spotlight, so a Kickstarter campaign is perfect for him to massage his towering ego.

Plus, I'm quite sure he'll have far greater pressure and risk on not delivering the goals of a project working with a big hungry publsiher then he will with a KS campaign. A KS campaign essentially lets you continue collecting cash, while exanding the scope of the project if you begin to run out. Look at games like Star Citizen and the many millions they've collected off nostalgic gamers, and there's still no sign of a finished game to show for it. KS is basically free money with next to no accountability.

KS is as much a PR channel as funding channel for the "famous" dev people, its a great way to get the word out there and a known/controllable way to interact with potential customers. You can get an indication about how successful your game will be. And it means that you get a greenlight from the customer instead of the publisher, with some guaranteed money before release and basically no publisher oversight.
Then you can muddle it up by taking on board a publisher, but maybe you can get more favorable terms ala its done when its done. This is the game the players want, you just publish etc.

Sure KS is great for developers to get funding for their projects. I completely agree with it's intent.

It's just in cases when a dev collects handouts from the community for deliver on a promise, and then doesn't deliver, or delivers something else. What happens then?

Anyway, that's getting off topic.

Anyway, I hope he brings PT with him. It doesn't have to come out as a Silent Hill game since PT can easily be made without tying it in to Silent Hill.
I believe Konami own the rights to Silent Hill and likely any and all IP for the PT demo as well. They'd basically have to start over and that doesn't seem to be what people want, which is a new Silent Hill game.

Pretty much confirmed - as Kojima and his logo are removed form the Silent Hils / P.T. website, report Eurogamer.

Kojima has left behind his career as a developer and started a new career working as a reviewer for push square.

(april fools)

So he won't be involved with the new Silent Hill? Konami really, really don't want to release a good SH game, do they!

Given that SH was originally developed by a group of devs who had separately worked on previous failed projects within Konami and were on their way out the door, I doubt Kojima's involvement is a prerequisite for future success of the franchise.

She says Konami management has fired Kojima.

Yeah, the moment they transitioned him and his team to contract employees they dismissed them as permanent full time staff. Technically they fired him. But he still is working on the game.

Hard to make sense of her comments as she goes from "don't throw away the Kojima's team work for the last five years" to "they are still working..to make it awesomer". That is unless Konami is waiting for MGS 5 to go gold before they throw the code in the trash. LOL.

Konami is no Konami without Hideo Kojima. Konami is a douchebag company in my eyes now. I am really curious why they fired him
