Killzone: first pics

Sure

Soldiers from 'Eden', its really a good manga, should read it if you like war.

That's just two design, there are several more variation.

Rip off ??? The time setting of the manga is the same too, not in too distant future :)

Edit:
Another one

Marconelly, what does the GA Forum crowd think about the first infos and screens?
As usual, some like it, some don't :)

See here: http://ga.gamesquad.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=49157

Personally, I love the way game looks. Seems very atmospheric, and aside of MGS3 I don't think I can think of any PS2 game that looks better than this and has large, streaming environments.

Rip off ??? The time setting of the manga is the same too, not in too distant future
Killzone guys look simillar, no doubt, but these eden guys look more high tech to me. I'm not denying various influences, I'm just saying HL2 is hardly one of them.

I guess that some guys with masks don't say much about the mood or style of the game... Screenshots are only taken of 3 levels which are now 'completed' (3 of 26 levels -> Shopping mall, slumbs and river/jungle location)
-> the biggest levels demand more work, so we'll see them only next year I guess:/
haven't seen kill zones or 'two important events' yet ;)
-> We're not yet in a stage where we can judge the game correctly

You guys need to get out, it looks damn nice. If the Physics and AI are what they're rumored to be, then good-times.

PS. With the story encompassing a post-modern civilization undergoing a revolution on a colony in space, the name Kin would have been a better portrayal of the ultimate truth behind the war.

The point I was making is that it's more difficult to copy Halo style or look because BM+dynamic lights gives Halo part of its art style and since PS2 can't do BM it's much easier to copy HL2 style or look.

Except, there's loads of BM in HL2, and pixel shaders and stuff also. How do you explain that, huh?

As for your supposed 'evidence' re. placeholders and rip-off of HL2 after E3, I'd expect we have a whole team of devs being extremely pissed at you right now for slandering them like this. You expect them to develop an entire look of a game that's been in development for 18+ months in less than 2.5? I got two words for you buddy: bull shit.

You got ZERO evidence, circumstantial or otherwise. What you got is SPECULATION, and rampant such at that.

And JvD:
"Fog problem"? You've seen two pics from the same level and you're ready to "conclude" there is a problem? I got two word for you too man. ;)

*G*

Yeah, 2 of which clearly show the game in the same setting or level. The thing I don't get is: those 2 screens with the fog look PERFECTLY realistic in terms of the setting and the dense atmosphere - why do people feel the need to bring up fog as if it were an issue to hide anything? Looking at those two screens which look perfectly realistic in their presentation, there is no reason to bring up fog and jump to conclusions. Now, if it the fog would look artificial and wouldn't belong to such a sceenary, then yeah, I'd understand. This however is not the case.

So in short - if the fog is there for reasons other than pure art direction - they've done an incredible job of making it look realistic and capture the dense atmosphere of a jungle. If this game plays like this at 60 fps, I could care less what is being done as long as it looks this good.

I only said there was a lot of fog. Mabye it is indeed just that map. Of course it is suspect that of the shots shown the ones outside (needs large draw area) has heavy fogging . I could say that the fog in turok was a feature . We all know it wasn't but i could argue that it was . I was just pointing out as I said before that there was terrible fogging. Whats the point of such a good looking game when you can't see 10 feet in front of u ?

Some of you guys are expecting WAY too much out of this generation of hardware..whether it be those who scrutinize Halo 2's minor flaws or it be Killzone's. These aren't CGI workstations.

All I can say is: It's your own damned fault.

Sigh, I guess I'll revisit this topic when there's a video or better screenshots, cause this is getting irritating. What happened to objectivity? This defend your console to the death stuff is pretty weak.

Yeah I don't know why a couple of people here get all worked up over differences of opinion and sounding like rabid fanbois in th process.

I've had Killzone screenshots for more than 2 years .If you want to stick to what you say about KZ copying HL2 style ,then the only explanation is that they traveled through Time.
Ah, finally someone to lay the smackdown on PC-Engine's insane ramblings...

*HL2 invented style - Killzone stole it!*

I've had Killzone screens for quite some time now (saw them first time around E3) and there's no question they had established this style before they could see any HL2 footage.

Um..HL2 screens were released in magazines long before E3 ;)

Hope you like being smacked down...otherwise provide the proof.

Um..min spec for HL2 doesn't require BM or PS ;)

Accept it or come up with evidence to prove otherwise since you seem so insistent regarding hard evidence  :p

Sorry, but the one person most resembling a fanboi here is you, who doggedly refuses to give the creators of this game any credit whatsoever.

Um..HL2 screens were released in magazines long before E3 ;)

You still have no proof, nor anything resembling such to back up your claims.

Hope you like being smacked down...otherwise provide the proof.

You're hardly the one who should demand proof from anyone. o_O

Um..min spec for HL2 doesn't require BM or PS ;)

Screens shown still includes it. Min spec for HL most likely looks way way WAY worse than Killzone, you may rest assured of that.

So I ask again: how do you explain that? (And don't try to bullshit your way out of it this time thank you.)

Accept it or come up with evidence to prove otherwise since you seem so insistent regarding hard evidence  :p

OMFG! I don't believe this shit!

Summary of "discussion" so far:

PC-Engine: There are purple invisible unicorns living on saturn!
Sane person: Would you mind backing up that statement with some proof?
PC-Engine: Well since we can't see them it must be true! Circumstantial evidence!
Sane person:
PC-Engine: Prove there's NOT purple invisible unicorns living on saturn or else accept that me and my hard evidence are right!

It's YOUR claim pal, YOU prove it or else I will report you for trolling on purpose okay?

I'm quite serious. Your behaviour is very childish and annoying.

Sorry, but the one person most resembling a fanboi here is you, who doggedly refuses to give the creators of this game any credit whatsoever.

Actually read my first post in this thread ;)

Ok now go read your first post in this same thread :p

You still have no proof, nor anything resembling such to back up your claims.

There were magazine scans posted on the internet before E3 whether you choose to accept it or not.

You're hardly the one who should demand proof from anyone.

I didn't really care about proof, but since the fanbois brought it up, I wanted to see what proof they had. ;)

Screens shown still includes it. Min spec for HL most likely looks way way WAY worse than Killzone, you may rest assured of that.

So I ask again: how do you explain that? (And don't try to bullshit your way out of it this time thank you.)

HL2 running a 640x480 with zero BM and zero PS would look similar to KZ heh KZ looks marginally better than RTCW if that ;)

OMFG! I don't believe this shit!

I think you need to calm down and get a grip...now where were those 640x480 screenshots of KZ that came out before those HL2 magazine screenshots?

Your first in line right  (I'm just playing )

Seriously . Some people post pics. THe pics are looked at. Some small thigns are pointed out that are so obvious its not even funny. Then they try to reverse the negitive onto another game on a diffrent system. If these pics do not show the quality of the finished game then do not post them saying omg look how good this looks . When it does not people are going to pic at it . Look at that impressive thread. The game is not impressive. People pointed out its flaws. People defended. Heh i'm sorry i should say people first defended it and then people knocked it down.

The person who jumped the gun to defend it must have known it was subpar otherwise there was no need to defend it .

The outside levels use heavy fogging based on the pics posted. What do you want people to say. Oh look at the grass.... Its right next to all that fog ... looks nice huh . I really don't under stand

Visually, I'm not blown away. But the graphics are consistent and the art is refined. It may look significantly better in the future. After all, the first pics of RS3 looked astoudingly mediocre, and that turned around fairly quickly.

I fully understand the progression of a 'net conversation and how insane they get at times (although you presented a nice epitome). What I was referring to is this rise of the hopeless argument as I think of it, where an individual makes a claim that defies common logic and situational awareness -- and instead of following the basic rules of argument (ie. present general idea -> provide specific factual support => rebuttal on support -> rebuttal on idea), you just make a claim and tell the other person to prove it isn't.

I mean, can you imagine if the world worked like this? Yet it's been commonplace here.

EDIT: Here's an example for ya PC-Engine: http://www.revisionism.nl/Moon/The-Mad-Revisionist.htm

innocent until proven guilty or guilty until proven innocent?

That is the question. ;)

EDIT: Here's an example for ya PC-Engine:

Selecting an appropriately accurate analogy to illustrate a point is an entirely subjective matter in itself...ie a fool is not barred from coming up with analogies...

What a crazy thread this has turned into... heh

On-topic: I'm not all impressed with it visually. It just doesn't look that good. I'm not going to buy the "Halo killer" hype either. We'll see when it comes out (is it sometime next year? if so then Halo 2 will be out).

Just might take you up on that offer one of these days.

Problem is when unwavering opinion comes into the mix. Lets take your flow of a 'normal' argument.

General Idea: KZ doesn't look as good as PS2 fansites made it out to be.

Support: Blurry textures/IQ issues (in comparison to graphically outstanding PS2 titles), fog may/may not hide draw distance.

(this is when opinion turned fact makes things ugly and destroys the discussion)

Rebuttal on support: Textures look fine, IQ looks fine, fog is supposed to be there, why can't you see how amazing this is?

(and then the rebuttal on the specific idea becomes a macro-self-victimization)

Rebuttal on idea: Stop picking on this game, yours looked like crap, why does everyone always have to rip on the PS2, you're all idiots.

So, that said, just as it was in The Matrix, 'there is no spoon', there is on the Internet, 'there is no discussion' (atleast when it comes to dissecting platform exclusive 'blockbusters').

HL2 running a 640x480 with zero BM and zero PS would look similar to KZ heh KZ looks marginally better than RTCW if that

hang you can't logically lionk titles in this manner. else we'd reduce 'anythiing' to looking like asteroids 8)

still HL2 _zero BM+zero+PS can still look like HL2 (just not as predominantly so) IMO.
