Have you upgraded your PS4 HDD?

Im confused here:
put the hdd back in the usb case backup the internal hdd, remove hdd from case and put it in the ps4.
why are 3 drives needed ?
The backup doesn't create a working internal HDD. For starters, the drive format is completely different. The internal HDD has to be formatted to PS4's OS format. The backup has to be on a FAT drive, and creates, I'm assuming, a single, monolithic backup file. Sticking a FAT drive with a single monolithic file in your PS4 is no more going to be bootable than putting an HDD in your PC with a Windows backup file as its only contents. ;)

but creating a backup on another drive then copying the contents of that drive to yet another drive does create a working internal HDD ?

The backup doesn't create a working internal HDD.
So what does ? There is cloning software thats compatible with fat32 I'm still not understanding why you need 3 drives ?

edit: read a guide and I understand it now

Upgraded from 5200 RPM 500 GB stock to a 5200 RPM 2 TB drive that fits inside the case. Some Samsung one..... link: http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-HN-M201RAD-Momentus-SpinPoint-ST2000LM003/dp/B00I8O6OQ4/ref=pd_ybh_1

Nothing fancy, great price, great amount of storage, and it does the job.

I'm expecting to last a while. With all my current games installed there's still 1.35 TB left... so more than enough room for many more games even if they all clock at 50 GB.

Glad I did it now, price was great and doing it later would just be more hassle. Had to install like 8 disc games... Bloodborne, TLOU, DriveClub, GTA V, Order 1886, Ground Zeroes, NBA 2K15, Killzone SF.... and just download a bunch of games again..... thank god for no bandwidth limit.

If you're like me and prefer to have all the games ready to go whenever you want, I definitely recommend upgrading, much less to worry about when a new game comes and try to figure out what to delete to make space lol. I ran out of HDD space after Bloodborne installed basically, was only like 13 GB left on the 500 GB drive.

I wouldn't worry about getting a much faster drive or anything tbh, this 5200 RPM classic HDD is working great, just aim for 2 TB or more storage and you should be set for a long time I think.

OK...I am also in the process of buying a 1 or 2tb HDD for my ps4. Just got an external 1tb one for creating the backup.

Just need to know , can I get any Seagate/Samsung/WD 1tb laptop HDD or does ps4 require something specific? It was pretty straightforward with the ps3

Upgraded using a Seagate Backup Plus Slim external HDD 2 TB. Opened the case and removed the Samsung Spinpoint M9T which I used for the upgrade. The PS4 HDD was transfered to the external HDD case.
So I got an upgrade and an external 500 GB HDD with USB 3.0 interface. An upgrade to 4x the older PS4 capacity and an external 500 GB HDD for 99 euros was not bad!

I still don't know to upgrade. The workaround about copy paste the backup to pc seems plausible but now I'm too afraid. What if it not working? My Internet only 2Mbps. Will be weeks to finish downloading stuff

@RenegadeRocks you need slim HDD. I think the dimensions are on page 1

You can always just put the old HDD back into the PS4 if it doesn't work out. Just try :)

Nope, because he needs to format that to backup his new HDD. Orangpelupa's backup workflow >

HDDs used are denoted 'OLD' for the old internal, 'NEW' for the replacement, and 'PC' for the one in his PC.

1) Format NEW to FAT
2) Backup OLD to NEW
3) Copy backup from NEW file to PC
4) Replace OLD with NEW
5) Format NEW to PS4 OS
6) Format OLD to FAT
7) Copy backup file from PC to OLD
8) Restore backup from OLD to NEW

Should the restore process fail, he'll be without a working internal HDD other than the blank new HDD.

ok got 320GB usb3, then the backup process for 253GB are 12 hours.

seriously... 12 hours? its slower than USB2.

It showed me 15 hours to backup my 398 or something gbs but cmpleted it much earlier.

Now will this HDD work:

http://www.flipkart.com/samsung-spi...sata+laptop+internal+hdd&otracker=from-search

There's this 2tb one too, but its too costly:

http://www.amazon.in/Samsung-Moment...0&keywords=samsung+spinpoint+laptop+hard+disk

Will these work? I just have to order now, my backups all done.

ALso, do I need to deactivate my accounts before taking my old hDD out? and reactivate them on the new hDD? it used to be like that on ps3, is it still the same?

No, I mean can someone tel me if that external Seagate HDD I linked to houses a 9.5mm hdd inside it. Cos its cheaper than an actual 9.5mm internal 2TB hdd.
Apologies, I completely misread your question! We go through a lot of these things and they came with a variety of drives so there's no guarantee which particular drive it will be shipped with.

Jesus. That sounded complicated. But if I got it right (it's still early in the morning here *cough*), it's only as complicated because Orangepelupa only had two HDDs.

I just got a new 1TB sshd (a seagate one) which I think should keep me happy for a while. Thinking I'll just pass on the complicated stuff and simply swap the HDDs (not before copying all my game save-files to an external USB stick), reformat the new HDD and then just copy all the game save-files from the USB stick to the new 1TB drive. Then redownload my games with the game-updates. Which will probably take until next year. :S

If all fails, I can simply reswap the HDDs and I should be back on my working 500GB original HDD with all my current data, right?

Is there anything else I should keep in mind? are there games that save outside the game-saves area? I.e. I think LBP on the PS3 saved its costumes and lots of data in the GAME-DATA storage. Does this still hold true? And what about account information? I'm taking I will need to re-add my users if I do it without the backup-tool? Or will I have to do that regardless?

Yes. You really need a third interim USB HDD to backup and restore to when swapping out the internal.

Just a reminder. If you have P.T. and want to keep it, a backup/restore is the only option.
