Halo Infinite [Fall 2021] [XO, XBSX|S, PC, XGP]

There was at the first test i guess. There are two graphical options in the menu, graphics or framerate but both are 30fps. Maybe at final release.
really?
so weird. I recall they removed the 120fps for Series S. But I didn't think they removed the 60 fps one. It was as flawless 1080p60 at the last test with series S IIIRC.

That's why my aim is so poor. This is my story and I'm sticking to it.

You need to readjust all your settings. They did not carry over from the public flightings.

FOV to ~90 on last gen, ~110 on Series X, and 120 or higher on PC if you prefer.
The two Look Accelerations to 4 or 5
The Sensitivity settings to 7, 7.5, or 8 depending on preference.
The four controller deadzones to 0, if you have drift try 3 or 5.

I also prefer Enemy Outlines set at Pineapple Yellow. I thought the Reds blended in too much.

@BRiT - Thanks for the settings. I haven't played a multiplayer FPS since Titanfall 7 years ago and I have no idea what I'm doing anymore and I was getting murdered last night for the half-hour I played. :)

Is there a setting to only be matched with non-KB/M players?

30fps with dips in quality mode. And seems stable 60fps in perf mode with no visual downgrade apart maybe resolution.
I'm seriously amazed and confused.
I remember when everyone assumed that 120fps mode was disabled due to bug or something as it was pretty solid.
60fps was solid.
Would be nice to see analysis of the flight compared to this beta.

I'd argue that linear games on PS4 still looked a step above open world games with a few exceptions where developement time and budget far exceeded the competition (like RDR 2). But when developement time and effort were relatively similar? IMO, God of War (2018) (linear) was a noticeable step up from Horizon: Zero Dawn (open world).

What the PS4 era really showed is how much time, money, and manpower a developer had was more influential on the final look of a game than anything else and how much more important those things were than in the PS3 era. And that gap is going to grow even larger with the current generation where very very few developers are going to be able to even scratch the surface of what the current gen consoles are graphically capable of just due to the cost in terms of time, money and manpower that is needed to fully realize what the current gen consoles can do.

I'd also argue that Oblivion looked as good as most of the linear games of it's time (2006 console release IIRC).

Replying to myself here as I had completely forgotten that the OG Xbox also had at least one large open world game. TES III: Morrowind was released on the OG Xbox. So basically all Xbox generations had open world games on them.

So, yeah, there wasn't really anything preventing Bungie from making an open world Halo at any given point in time (from their PC/Mac roots through the entirely of their console efforts) if they had wanted to.

Going off some reactions on other forums, there may be a little bit of spoiler in the cinematics, at least one of those "oh damn" reaction moments.

Feels so weird after Destiny. Every FPS feels so crude and slow since Destiny. But I guess after a while you get used to it. I feel the same or worse when I play Splitgate, Apex, or anything not Destiny for a few minutes. Still enjoying it. I never knew you do all kinds of neat little things like put stickers on your guns etc in Halo. That's neat. I'm sure COD and other been doing that stuff for a decade plus but I never played them so...

The graphics are at once not great and great IMO if that makes any sense. Not great in that there seems to be zero imagination in the environments. They are about as nondescript as you can be. However at least on X things like the armor and weapon effects look amazing. And everything looks very sharp and very high production value.

An example of what I mean as an oldy would be the original Unreal Tournament on PC and a map like facing worlds. Just doing cool graphics in the background for their own sake. Just to blow some minds.

I've always felt graphics are as much art as science. You need to have a knack for understanding "ok, lets make the player go ooh here for it's own sake". Like the original Gears of War did that so well. It feels like 343 definitely doesn't have the art part in them, judging what they've produced so far in Halo 5 and snippets of Infinite campaign which seem boring and colorless as well indoors. But it's still a gorgeous, big budget game even after saying that. There may some more graphically interesting stuff in the campaign too.

I didn't like the shadow drop of the MP beta. With progress carrying over it basically means the full MP dropped. Video games are the hobby most built around hype and anticipation that exists. we exist in a perpetual state of anticipating that next big release and how great it will be. Back to when I was a kid and EGM and other gaming mags dedicated most of it's pages to previews, not discussion of released games. And they would have built more hype waiting for the 8th to drop everything. Just IMO. The game seems to be hanging on to viewers well on twitch so far though, but only a couple days in so we'll see.

A lot of new SP content

Yes! Another title where a huge focus was put on the audio in the game.

Graphics look decently good, but man that pop-in. It's distracting when tufts of grass just appear out of thin air. I wonder if they'll be able to do something about that in the future.

Nice to hear that the AI was still a high priority. I hope the AI at lower difficulties isn't "too" dumb, though.

Hugely looking forward to this. Please 343i, don't F this up like you did with Halo 5 and to a lesser extent Halo 4. And please let disappearing weapon syndrome that both 4 and 5 suffered from be gone in Infinite. It would make even less sense in this title for weapons on the ground to just disappear.

Still cautiously optimistic because I don't fully trust 343i with the Halo franchise yet, but at least signs are pointing towards them maybe finally "getting it".

SB

Graphics look decently good

Regarding the campaign(and what I have seen from the MP), I am disappointed that the environment is static. Nothing moves other than the player and NPC(enemy). I would have thought that they might have learnt something from other games regarding a live environment. Looks like a early Old-gen(Xbox Series One) game to me ala Destiny/Destiny2 from the gameplay environment wise of what I have seen.
