Halo 5: Guardians [XO]

Completed first two missions and the gameplay is ok. I'm ignoring the dialogue for the most part. I might pay more attention in a replay.

Played some Warzone. The 60 hz is really a great addition for MP. Graphics look good enough imo. MP gameplay is pretty good so far, except for the usual complaint about shitty spawn weapons. Give me a BR goddamn it!!!!!

Ok, I played another maybe 30 minutes+. Another nitpick, what's with the oversized HUD/Visor? It's really easily one of the most bothersome aspects to me. It should be a nice performance gain so I wonder if that's why. However in one scene you seem to start out and play a few seconds with no visor, so perhaps not?

Also, the whole AI revives system is weird. At first I thought it essentially means on normal difficulty you cant die, which is weird enough. But in one really weird scene, I was killed by a strong elite, each of my AI teammates came up to revive me one by one, almost in a line, each was then one shotted by the Elite hanging around my corpse and coming back into the frame. Really contrived and game-y looking.

Yeah the friendly AI is as stupid as ever. Kind of shocking to see three other supposedly badass Spartans get wrecked like a bunch of noobs. One would think they'd focus fire the nearest enemy until it's dead or at least while one revives you. I guess AI programming is hard.

I don't get the complaints about the revive mechanic... If you're shot down in a killzone, why should the AI characters survive the enemy fire there?
This is actually a bonus feature, any other Halo game (or any other game, really) would just push you back to the previous checkpoint - but in this one, you have a chance to get a sort of extra life. If you're careful enough with both your own movements and how you direct your squad, you can gain an advantage and get to continue a fight. But if you're reckless and get killed in the middle of an enemy group, of course the AI mates are going to be killed as well; or if you let them die and try to play the lone hero and it doesn't work out and there's noone to revive you, well, that's your fault as well. So how could this be seen as a bad point?

The hud is removed in MP, so it's just aesthetic apparently. Play on legendary, you think watching your AI team mates die like that is comical and stupid? Wait till you see it happen with real players, because it will, almost all the time. You've got limited time to revive your team mates, and when you enter a death zone, chances are, you're going to die. We've died a lot.

My FIFA career is dwindling, and I have no other games to play, so I'm almost tempted to get Halo, just to have a multiplayer game. I'm not sure if I'm encouraged or discouraged by the complaints. One on hand, complaints never seem great, but if they're coming from people who love the turds that were Halo 1-3, then maybe I'll actually like this one.

I really only loved Halo 1. I thought 4, ODST, and Reach were "pretty good". And Wars if that counts. Didn't love 2 and 3, not judging 5 yet. But I also basically only play the campaigns which probably means I dont even count...

1 was really special, i loved 2 as well because i spent countless hours playing local co-op/multiplayer in that. 3 was incredibly good due to forge and multiplayer for me. ODST was pretty good and reach I've only played the campaign. I didn't think much of Halo 4 but 5 seems a return to form multiplayer wise, forge and BTB will be great additions as well.

Played a few hours SP.

Up to now, this is simple the best FPS this gen.

The action is so cool, it is beyond awesome!

I really like these new dash and climb mechanics and the different weapons.

Fighting in a real battle with countless enemies (and not only 3-5) is probably the best so far!

Can't wait to play more...

PS: i just have no clue about the story?!?!?

Before Halo 5, my preference in the series is Halo Reach and ODST as being the best play mechanics. The same with multiplayer. I spent a bit of time in H3 multiplayer but not nearly as much time as Reach / ODST in Firefight and VS Multiplayer. I never liked H4 multiplayer so outtside of playing SpartanOps (with absolutely horrible script writing) and hated the H4 campaign due to graphical choices and convoluted story. I couldnt even motivate myself to finish playing through it in H:MCC before H5 release.

I'm liking the H5 campaign from a game play and story perspective even though I absolutely hate the character you play as the majority of the time (Locke). I can see spending a lot of time playing this game, both campaign and multiplayer going forward.

;) story may not really come into view until mission 7ish?

Well I'm very happy with the product. I consider myself generally a social gamer, where I like MP but only want to play when friends are playing as well.

This game I can play 10hrs of arena solo day in and out and not need my buddies. That's a huge testament for me, only a handful of games have such a title, the others being Counterstrike, World of Warcraft and Warcraft 3. Aside from RPGs which are solo games no other MP has had this much pull in a long time.

I only do campaign coop, I like to burn myself with legendary mode. Each mission is a struggle and it feels like we're working through a raid in destiny.

Well I've got to say that I've lucked out. A proper purchaser would have waited to try H5 and then buy and Xbox for it. I randomly lucked out it turned out well for me. But yea, I think this might be the game that defines the XBO as a solid purchase for me. I was this close to upgrading my PC to run OverWatch at 100+ fps, but now I'm not so sure I want to do that. OW looks great, but if it plays like TF2 I may not like it as much as I think I do.

hell, lol I don't even love Q3A as much as I like H5, but I can't tell my friends that because they don't believe any game that isn't M+KB can be taken seriously, or the game lacks depth.

Game modes in MP are great, I like the playlists. I like the way they do unlocks. Custom matches are great and Warzone can be okay casual. match making speed is incredible. Any time of day I can find a match relatively fast, much faster than most other games I've tried. The skill levels on match making are extremely good, I am about 50% W/L ratio which is the intended purpose of matchmaking. Each match ends so close or epically. I should be yelling "record that" more often but my Kinect was loaned out to a company for an art project.

Hopefully the population stays this strong for a long time, and I have a feeling it will.

I played the first three missions last night and 'm really not feeling it. I'm going to play some more over the weekend but this is the first Halo game that I've started then voluntarily switched off rather than had to switch off becuase it's 3am in the morning.

Also put me in the camp of not liking the helmet HUD but otherwise visually I'm quite happy. I've yet to notice the 30Hz animation while playing unless I'm specifically looking for it. And frankly I'm a bad spartan if I'm doing anything other than looking for things to kill! :yep2:

Story in Halo to me is almost as ridiculous convoluted as like MGS is these days (ok, it's probably an order of magnitude less bad than MGS, but still bad). I gave up even trying to understand it a long time ago. They need to simplify, big time. Or follow that one game dev conference presentation title I remember "nobody cares about your shitty story"

I need to see that presentation. Videogame stories are a huge pet peeve of mine. Even the ones that are supposedly great, I can't find myself agreeing, especially not Metal Gear or Halo.
