Halo 5: Guardians [XO]

Maybe cos they were other players playing ? You can't have nice canned animations for a player controlled character, it depends, the guy playing as that character, ran up, stopped and shot a rocket. It looked bad , yes.

As for me, the whole level was COD with Destiny colours and themes. Nothing even spoke HALO to me.

Definitely because of people playing instead of it being AI. The legs and the torso looked very separated from one another. It just looked crummy in a in a way that surprised me.

Agree that it didn't seem like Halo game. Nothing that makes Halo great was present, to me.

Which is all a bit odd as they have already shown us how they are doing mocap, oh wait cutscenes right?

Yeah, most likely.

The animations don't bug me that much, especially for gameplay purposes. Actually, the spartan kneeling down to check out the rifle reminded me of the intro section to Reach (if you didn't run past the first shed).

I just can't make heads or #butts out of their marketing/PR strategy because they talk a lot about scale etc, but they go an show us corridors and scripted events for campaign.

Hmm, Halo 5 Warzone sounds a lot like....Destiny Public Events (boss spawns in to public area, you all get alert, rush to kill him cooperatively)!

Not the first and wont be the last to steal concepts from Destiny, in fact probably almost all games will in the future.

Using your terminology. It's a system which Destiny (and everyone else) "stole" from Guild Wars 2 (although forms of it existed prior, GW2 perfected it and made it popular). It's nothing new or special to Destiny. In fact there is very little (if anything) that is new or special to Destiny. They've just done a good job integrating many things that have existed for years and sometimes decades in other games, especially MMORPGs. In other words, Destiny has almost nothing original for anyone to steal.

Only Warzone is nothing like you just said. It's a 24 player PvP battlezone that also happens to have NPCs. It's actually closer to Titanfall than Destiny.

Isn't this the lovely look of a woman falling in love? If this isn't, what is? Yes, this is from the ending...

Forerunner Genie will grant you 3 wishes.

1080p ain't one of them
PC version isn't either
haha, wahat kind of genie is that then? Something had to be wrong when the lamp is amiss. At least we have @DSoup , who is the genius of the language and he never misses one word that isn't well written. :)

Those Promethean enemies are terrible. Boring and no personality. Who cares about slaughtering waves of mindless drones? The Warzone video really reinforced that.

hm... I've given this hours of thought.

Hours.

"Genie Eternal"

I would love to see a Grunt boss that's been subjected to steroid treatments that makes it.... at least 3x the size.

From the 15min IGN Warzone video, I actually think the Prometheans are pretty good. Looks like they have pretty good AI, although it doesn't speak to their personality I guess.

I'm avoiding any campaign vids so that I don't spoil the story for me, but I like what I'm seeing from the MP stuff shown so far. This and Doom are probably the only FPS I will probably pick up this year or next.

Well you're wrong, it's just like a PE from year ago Destiny to me (nothing wrong with that BTW), and Destiny six man raids with complex mechanics are completely new but, PM sent :)

Bungie and 343 share DNA. They even have some same code names in the games. Regardless that they play a lot alike cus well, Destiny is a lot like Halo, and Halo continuing is also a lot like Halo.

It is really weird going back to a non-ADS shooter (Halo 4 MCC in my case) after Destiny though. Huge adjustment, feels very weird. Not sure how long it'd take me to recalibrate.

Most impressive part of the Demo...dat sparkles. I wonder if ESRAM is actually helping make possible something not possible on other hardware here? I hope so anyway. We know even PS2 had a few advantages over the generally 2X as powerful Xbox.

I still dont think 343 had access to the full X1 as we know the SDK's have improved drastically over the past few months, and sadly I think H5 is probably realistically already in the can. So while this looks amazing, it's probably not a true to the metal hardware pusher just yet. That'll be Halo 6 I guess.

Will we get more campaign footage of E3? All they wanna show is Warzone....and not even much of that.

Whatever happened to stage demos? Of course in recent years Pubs got stingy and just started basically playing their same press conference videos at "stage demos", which is probably why they dont happen anymore, but still.

Anyways Gamersyde has higher Q direct feed of the Halo e3 campaign Demo http://www.gamersyde.com/news_e3_halo_5_gets_three_videos-16700_en.html

Hope there is a map with a scarab boss. Or something big. If you have 24 spartans on the field, it would be a bit daft to just create your typical mmo damage sponge.

I'll watch that 15 min Warzone video when I get home.

I hope they include Firefight and the Invasion MP game mode this time. Or even some type of raid, since they seem to be stealing from Bungie.

Well.... about that.

So is it safe to assume this mode is taking place of a Firefight or Spartan Ops type mode?

Yes. You could look at it that way.

I'm guessing Invasion is gone for good, but I'm hoping Warzone is customizable enough to switch to purely PvE instead of PVP + PVE.

Maybe we don't need 24 spartans on one team, but if they did scale back on spartans (to just single team of 12 even), then they ought to ramp up the AI count to compensate and make it more crazy.

Need more info. :|

Great.

I wonder what exactly the clowns at 343i have against Firefight? It seems like such a no brainer for this game and its sandbox. FFS, they didn't even include it with ODST.

One nice touch is that Halo 5's dynamic lights seem to support for specular reflections.

The particles are looking nice, but keep in mind that Halo 1 was doing this as an original Xbox launch game, and Reach and Halo 4 can both handle pretty large numbers of interesting particles. I'm not seeing anything particularly secret-saucy here.

mm...

I can only speculate about ODST, but I imagine part of it was launching ODST ASAP in a functional state (end of May). Maybe they'll be so kind as to port FF later on (or Reach, for that matter).

Mind you, the company handling Halo 3/4 had to delay SpOps by over a month as well. :|

Aye.

The Promethean death act doesn't seem that much different from H4, IIRC.

Ok watched the longer Warzone vid.

Honestly, the gameplay looks pretty bland. Nothing really new. And I hate those goddamn useless Promethean weapons! There wasn't a damn DMR or BR in sight. It's like they want you to run around with pissant weapons, spraying and praying.

Oh yeah, ALL of the sound effects - weapons, no shields, melees, mech walking, warthog - are terrible. Weak and tinny, not full and punchy. I hope they improve that before launch.

Anyway, kind of a yawner.
