Had development continued, could DC have rivalled PS2?

there was a VF4 preview bundled with Shenmue2 for DC. cantains some preview material if I'm not mistaken.

haven't been able to find Screenshots of said demo yet tho.

Playable Demo via VF.net :)
+ A Disk with Virtua Fighter history (including VF kids) and preview to VF4 (certainly Dreamcast version, not arcade)

I'll try to take pictures, cause I found a digital cam @home! :)
We still have one, I thought we hadn't got any :)
I hope to take pictures soon :)

I'd just like to commend the excellent moderatorship work that JVD and Sonic have put forth to helping to reduce the stupidity in annoying threads such as these.

Am I the only one who saw thie topic of this thread and knew immediately what it's fate was?

but why do i get the blame for saying SC2 is a PS2 optimized game that ported darn well to the Xbox?

How is that?? any links???

All versions are released/releasing on the same day...all were simaltenously in work!! :?:

I did, and quess what...
check the 9 th post, can you quess who was the first that referred to the SC2 xbox vs PS2 discussion in another thread.

Not to mention that 9th post was the first with a totally uneccessary comment.
Quote: 'Deadmeat you silly, PS2 is 25X the DC. Thanks to the latent emotion powers available in never done before mips cpu, the sheer quality of PS2 graphics outblast the DC and it does well keeping up with the GC/Xboxs' best games.'
Everything was going just well in this thread, until that flaming 9th post.

Do you recognice who's comment it was... oh the irony :D

9th post. FULL post, by the "troll" chap.

Deadmeat you silly, PS2 is 25X the DC. Thanks to the latent emotion powers available in never done before mips cpu, the sheer quality of PS2 graphics outblast the DC and it does well keeping up with the GC/Xboxs' best games.

ON A MORE NORMAL TONE, i say, the visual perception of normal gamers might serve the ultra crisp IQ of DC well. Some just love the clean output, never minding the polygons. What more, developers could drop to 480i to bump up the polygons. We also have DC excellent bumpmapping and shadowing capabilities. Who knows, it might make up for the lack of brute polygon output?

Cant realize a snappy joke i see? Ok, so where is the SC2 Xbox-PS2 comparison?

On the other hand, i suggest everyone to check Mr Rabit posts in the 2nd page. Thanks. :)

It is very much well known SC2 was released earlier on Sys246 arcade board( == PS2). Check it yourself if you doubt the "troll" chap. ;)

In any case, reposted an interview for those who missed it:
GS: Was the game always in development on the System 246?

HY: Yes.

GS: Are you overseeing the ports of the console versions?

HY: Yes, I am overseeing the ports from top to bottom.

GS: Which system is the easiest to port to? Logically speaking, we'd think the PS2 port would be the easiest since the System 246 is a PS2-comptible board, so that leaves us with the Xbox and the GameCube. Which is easier among the two?

HY: Yes, basically the PS2 port would be the easiest since the System 246 and PS2 are pretty much the same hardware. I think working on the Xbox and the GameCube are both just as challenging, since we have to work around both sets of hardware based on their advantages and disadvantages.

Oh yes! Thanks!
:thumbs up: I really wish i had some digital recorder too. :(

How does that prove that SC2 is optimized for PS2??? All ports got equal amount of development time! If PS2 port had any advantage it got equated with *ease of development* on XB and GC!!

Like i said B4, another interview conducted in which the producer said along the lines that their SC2 code has maxxed out the PS2.

Not sure about the link, but it was posted at GA before. I know you will doubt me, but you can ask Marconelly. He visits GA often, he should come across that and of course he is not consider a "troll" around here.

Thank you, but in what way am i irritating you? He ask for a question, i gave him an honest answer. As usual i see, blaming the chap for something, anything.

I hope the mods know the black and white around here.

In other word, what ever PSX2 does, DC could do it in half frame rate.
That's absolutely false. PS2 can clear the screen about 24x faster then DC can.

On a more serious note, if you can show me how SH4 can process geometry at 50% of one VU, I'll be impressed (including memory reads/writes though, no cheating).
And if after that, you can also show me the hidden second CPU in dreamcast that noone knows about and will do the non-geometry tasks while SH4 is drawing, I am willing to assume PS2 only uses one VU and say you're right. ;)

I think if we post only about games/gameplay and not the consoles we can have better debates... ;)

5 Minutes remaining untill pics are posted
Last time I could connect to VF.net, but this time I could not :(
So I grabbed a few screens of title screen, box and some ingame, Dreamcast shots, this via the other disk (preview material, the game was a few months from japanese release, and it says on the back that it's dreamcast material and not the arcade version :))

But the characters have much better AA and the lighting is also exellent -> I'll need to recharge memory stick for those screens, it is full now :)

First Time I work with this camera for a long time, so give me some time ;)

HOLY!!!!1

Anyway, why dont you try focusing a bit further back, you know try to get the whole screen on? I mean, step back further to take the pictures!

Again, HOLY!!!!!1

How is the textures? I take it it runs at 480p?

Is that Kage closeup rendered on the DC? So wait, can you PLAY VF4 on DC, or is it just movies off the arcade version? I think the mods should separate it into another topic.
