A New Grand Theft Auto Title and Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition Available This Spring

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 10, 2005--Rockstar Games, the world-renowned publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO - News), is proud to announce Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition and a brand new iteration of Grand Theft Auto for the highly anticipated PSP(TM) handheld system. Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition and the new Grand Theft Auto title, which will be set in Liberty City, are being developed by Rockstar Leeds in conjunction with Rockstar San Diego and Rockstar North, respectively. Both titles are expected to be available near the launch of the PSP handheld system in North America and Europe.

"Bringing two of our most successful game franchises to this thrilling new platform not only gives us an opportunity to create a new dimension for these already extraordinary series but also allows us to begin to explore the full potential of the PSP handheld system," said Sam Houser, President of Rockstar Games. "Sony's extremely impressive technology has allowed Rockstar Leeds to do more on a handheld machine than we could have ever imagined. We are very excited for gamers to experience these two genre-defining franchises in a fashion that could have never before been possible on a portable system."

"We are working very closely with Rockstar North and Rockstar San Diego to ensure that both Grand Theft Auto and Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition remain faithful to the initial vision of these respective franchises," said Gordon Hall, President of Rockstar Leeds. "We understand that gamers' expectations will be very high for new PSP handheld system titles and we are confident that we can deliver exhilarating experiences that will set the standard for what a PSP game can be with Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition and our new Grand Theft Auto title."

Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition has previously been announced for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system and Xbox® video game system from Microsoft.

edit: title changed due to popular request

<laughs> I came into here wondering "what's a System L?"

I wonder just what "near the launch" might mean, exactly? For titles bound to be popular and notable, I'd have expected to see more information by now. Perhaps they mean to blow the socks off people? ^_^

You know, the titles of the threads should be just... titles... I mean, a very nice, succint "Rockstar announces PSP game" would have been ok, "Rockstar's PSP game" would have been just perfect.

But anyway, It was just a matter of minutes until Rockstar announced something for PSP. Now with a confirmed GTA game, a potential PSP failure seems very unlikely.

Hey, you never know. It could have been a hardware add-on like I thought at first. ;)

aka GTA3 port/rehash. Sigh! It's the GBA all over again!
Ewww i didn't see that...

Why would they copy over a game EVERYONE has played 3 years ago?

Oh wait... :devilish:

As long as they finally throw some MULTIPLAYER into it, I think people would be stoked. ;)

Meanwhile, I assume they'll at least come up with some new environs to play with inside the city and probably a storyline that runs concurrent, rather than being a direct port. That will at least let them concentrate on getting the game out quickly and decently and offering new experiences, even if the city itself is a replay.

Also says a new game, CJ from San Andreas was in Liberty City, CJ's story when he was there? Highly plausible if I don't say so myself. 8)

Am i the only one that thinks that the "pixel quality" could be better on this than the PS2. I just have this feeling that this game may look better than the PS2 versions...

Ohh and isn't this a true System Seller?

A GTA game could imo be almost a perfect game for a handheld.
They are games where you can either play leisurely just cruising and maybe doing some side missions like extreme jumps etc.. or do the main missions.

They could also bundle a USB motion-sensor device that made it so that when you carjacked someone or beat up a pimp in real life, it would instantly translate those actions into the game for you. ;)

so now we will have an excuse to go to the red light district!

"but honey, i had to earn some point's , I was almost dead! "

Would they integrate multiplayer modes into this? If this is just a quick port to get a title out, then it doesn't seem likely.

OTOH, if they came up with an interesting multiplayer mode, it could be used as a prototype for online modes of future console versions.

Not necessarily, Liberty City, just like Vice City and San Andreas are part of the GTA universe, DMA/Rockstar,s version of the biggest US cities, thoses exact same cities were present in the first opus.

Of course that doesn't rule out the idea of a port. ;)
In the end, they could port the "playground", city and its graphics, add a few stuff here and there, and just change all the story and missions.
