GMail to offer POP access to users' mailboxes!

Right, so the idea i had of POP as opposed to Webmail was right.
That's why i was confused, why would Gmail offer such a service when they're bragging about giving 1GB of web space for emails?

Yes 8)

Interesting though that an email service that is mostly known for its huge quota, enables a method where you don't store anything on the servers (except unread mail). Are they running out of disk? :D

They've been planning this for quite some time now. I remember when the GMail service first opened and I got my invite, the first thing I did was try and find out if they will allow POP access. In their FAQs, they said it was going to be coming soon. I also remember the FAQ saying that it might require a subscription or premium account. I guess they decided against that.

...and here we are, free E-Mail with POP3. Yay.

IMAP: Use a dedicated email reader (Thunderbird, Eudora, Outlook Express, ...) to read mail. Emails are still stored on the mail server.

Outlook Express stores mails on the HD.
Outlook express can do either.

Just about any POP email capable client worth its salt (as in 99% of them) gives you the option.
