Future of 3D gaming and media *spawn

Been running around in Paris last few days. I think I can't feel my legs anymore XD.

Louvre is certainly an amazing place to test my 3D camera. The thing about this baby is I can't take 3D video/picture in portrait mode since the lens are fixed horizontally. 8^(

I read that the 3Dness is not that obvious for faraway objects. Haven't reviewed my material on a 3DTV yet. The autostereoscopic LCD view finder has _terrible_ resolution with a liitle 3D effect. I sure hope the outcome is satisfying.

The Winged Nike piece is incredible ! My favourite in the whole of Louvre.

1.75 mil 3D Blu-ray sold in first year:
http://www.screendigest.com/reports/201166a/2011_07_life_in_3d_bd3ds_first_year_of_sales/view.html

3D video on Blu-ray Discs (BD3D) in 2010 sold over half a million units to consumers following its mid-year launch at retail on June 22. Now that BD3D has completed its first full year of retail sales, IHS Screen Digest estimates the format has sold a total of 1.75m units to date, not including those that were bundled with various hardware packages. So far in 2011 US consumers have bought 1.2m units. For comparison, in Blu-ray Disc's (BD) first year on the market the format sold just 363,000 units, although BD sales ramped up faster than we're likely to see with BD3D, as the relatively limited amount of 3D product will mean fewer titles coming to market.

LG Enters Expanding Portable Gaming Market With Optimus 3D And High Quality Games From Gameloft

Stereo 3D gaming on an android smartphone, with an initial library of 20 titles.
Watch out Nintendo, it has begun.

Dont you mean watch out Sony?. Sony has PS3 3D gaming and a movie studio. So there's no need for them to prematurely enter that market. Nintendo again thought they were being clever in rushing out a 3D machine but the 3DS will be obsolete in no time. When will limitless 3D OLED Vita launch?. Basically with 3DS they're taking on Sony Electronics, Samsung etc.

Erm.. I wouldn't call PS3 a handheld..

3D is strategically very important for Sony electronics. What's clear now is the PS3 right from the outset was a vehicle to deliver Blu Ray AND 3D. 3D is the next great revolution in electronics with the end goal being limitless 3Din all electronics. And there's Nintendo again trying to disrupt the market. Nintendo have got to contend with cutting edge tech from LG, Samsung , Sony etc in the mobile market in the next 6 years. As far as Vita goes i'd imagine it's not in there because it's a long life platform...

PS3 is a home console, it'll hardly eat away from from the 3DS' marketshare. PSVita doesn't have stereo 3D, and most probably it'll never have.

Like I said, the 3DS' main competition for its own niche will be the much more powerful smartphones with stereo 3D screens like Sharp Aquos and Optimus 3D. Other handset makers should follow in 2012 (maybe Samsung, HTC and Sony-Ericsson).

I think Sony's official statement is: we will re-evaluate if Vita needs autostereoscopic 3D later. If those execs are speaking the truth, that kinda hinted that Vita may evolve along the way, albeit in a carefully managed manner. Or at least they leave the option open.

Sony started this new 3D craze didnt they. They've been beaten black and blue financially in the tv market in the last few years because of strong Yen etc etc. A market disruptor by Sony until they can mass produce OLED?. SNE expect tv losses to more than half this fiscal from $1billion while gaining marketshare .

Did they? And craze might be a bit strong a word unless you're talking about the CE push. Consumer demand certainly isn't a frenzy.

Nintendo thought it was a frenzy!. 3D now is the real deal that should end up at it's logical conclusion.

The logical conclusion for many gimmick tech advancements is the scrapheap as people either tire of it, or something else comes along. 3D has come and gone several times already in my life, a few more wouldn't surprise me.

Here's some quality 3D to lighten the mood.

No one has seen proper 3D. It will be as normal as HD eventually. Re-evaluation do you HONESTLY believe the electronics giants are putting a gimmick in there top of the range tv's. Next people on this forum will be saying the human race is blind.

Do you live in the land of one eyed people? I see proper 3D all the time. Just not when looking at a 2 dimensional surface.

3DTV won't be anything more than niche until they find a much better way to deliver it. I mean no glasses required with much improved viewing angles at full resolution without headaches or nausea. Not all of these are problems for everyone but combined it leaves them a long way from a complete solution.

Sony bet on 3D. Not 3DTV. ^_^
There is a huge difference.

I remember reading that even Samsung is having trouble in the TV market now.

Apple’s multilayer (glasses free) 3D patent published:
http://www.ubergizmo.com/2011/07/apples-multilayer-3d-patent-published/

While it seems that in the past, Apple has not really displayed any indication that they might be making the move to 3D displays, following in the footsteps of other devices such as the HTC EVO 3D and the LG Optimus 3D, it appears that a recent patent filing revealed that Apple’s designs for a multilayer display will be able to display 3D images without the need for special glasses.

Back in US. The 3D Bloggie survived. ^_^
The Mac software for camera syncing is pretty sleek. Could play the captured videos in 2D even if the video is in 3D.

The only problem is firmware update. It's not fully automated like iTunes. Requires the user to download the firmware from a URL and then copy to the camera manually.

Now, only thing left is a 3D monitor for me to revisit my Europe vacation.

I can heartily recommend the LG W2363D-PF. It's a 3D ready 23.6" 1080p with USB hub, HDMI and DVI.

I replaced my shitty 22" 16x10 Viewsonic 3D monitor with this and it blows it out of the water. Almost no ghosting and very nice colours indeed for a TN monitor. Damn cheap too. I paid under 150 euros from Amazon. Still can't believe how good it is for the price. You'll want to disable the crappy audio driven light show though, god knows why they decided that was a good idea.

You're in EU or Asia ? Coz I tried to look for a 3D Monitor for the past 2 months before my trip, all of them are sold out. The vendors only shipped very limited quantity to US. Couldn't find any ASUS, Acer, Samsung, LG or Sony. If possible, I'd like a 27" one.

I heard the Acer 27" 3D monitor is the best. The Samsung one looks good physically, but performs slightly worse than the Acer.

Germany typically resides in the EU, when it feels like it. I ordered mine from Amazon.de, but that was based off of US and UK reviews I read online so presumably they're available there too. Not sure about Asia.

A 27" would be lovely, but I think the cost shoots up dramatically above the size I have. To be honest for the price of this one you could probably just buy two of them for a similar cost of a larger panel, if that would suit your needs better.
