Formula 1 - 2009 Season

He should have plenty engine changes left, the Merc has been pretty reliable. Do you have any overview of how many engines each driver has used?

No, sadly not, it's even harder to know nowadays too, since they don't go up in big pile of smoke (and flames) like they used to, if they go, same sort of smokes that come out nowadays can just aswell be for example transmission failure or just hydraulics

Lewis Hamilton is on pole with Heikki Kovalainen by his side. Heikki was on a faster lap at the end of Q3 but had a moment at the end of the lap which gave the lap to Lewis. KERS on pole, the Merc KERS seems to be the only good one, though if Williams starts racing with their non-battery KERS and it does well, Williams may be swimming in money soon - say if the non-FOTA teams all go for KERS for 2010.

I would have liked to see Fernando Alonso higher up than 8th, but at least Nakajima is not anywhere close to him.

Luca Badoer, what to say? If he is in a Ferrari at Spa, Ferrari are insane. They could put Liuzzi, Piquet Jr., Bourdais, Villeneuve or even Senna in that car and they would all do better than poor old Luca. You got one race, Luca. Loyalty rewarded, now piss off, there's racing to be done!

Wow badoer is just... I wonder what he thinks. He says everything when as they expected, but ofcourse he himself must fully realize that being 2 seconds of the pase of #19 that he has a lot bigger problems than not being familiar with the car. Mainly that he is just to damn slow. I agree, unless he atleast manages to keep up tomorrow Ferrari would be insane to put him in the car again. Basically they can put anybody half decent at driving a racecar in and be faster.

But who? Liuzzi is Italian and Ferrari doesnt like Italians in their car. Villneave only has a big mouth and with the time away from F1 and no preperation I doubt if he is any better than Badour. Bourdais is also a waste of effort as the guy has zero future in F1 as he just doesnt cut it either. Maybe Piquet. Atleast the guy is young, got experience with the current cars and if he manages to keep himself together for the whole race atleast you got a fair chance of atleast ending up somewhere in the mid field and I'd be his big chance to really show that what he said about Flav is true (surely Ferrari wont hold him back, I really cant feel anything other than Raikonnen only being in the car because he has to and really does not care at all and Ferrari seem to have taking piece in knowing they probably get rid of him next year in exchange for someone that actually can be botherd). Senna might be a option too but no experiance and with the Ferrari not in best shape probably not much in terms of performance and with Ferrari not having a seat open for a rookie next year why would they bother giving track time to someone that at best will end up as a competitor?

No now that I think about it Piquet doesnt seem that a stupid choice. Even if he wouldnt perform very good because he knows the cars and all atleast he be usefull in testing the car for new parts and setups.

Ferrari's KERS seems to work just as fine in general, McLarens might be better car balance wise though

Everyone, including Badoer, knew he wasn't going to perform well this weekend, this was going to be practice for him, first time driving for 8 months, in just 1 day he already cut the gap to Kimi by 1 sec (practice 1 > practice 2)

But what about algusaire and grosjean? These guys are on the pace and never got a chance to test either. Not only that but Badoer has more than 10 years of experience of driving F1 cars while these guys almost had non before they got in the car and still they are able to go at a decent speed right away. Badoer is just very slow, and probably a lot slower than he or Ferrari would have expected.

They have been both racing the whole season in some other series, of course it's not the same, but it's similar

Barichelo wins :)
AFAIK, after 2nd pit he was 10sec ahead of Hamilton, so while McLaren f* up, still Barrichelo was in position to win

Still, it seems Brawn still have tyre-issue, they were running on harder ones... and Button lost many positions on start, again. It seems if he is not in 1st line, is not aggresive enough to climb up.

Another weirdness - Vettel burning 2 engines for 1 weekend.. and no problems for Webber whio was screwed by his mechanics

Button is just a very average driver that was in the best car in the early part of the season, it's no great surprise when the pressures on he's folded.

Overrated tosspot.

Great to see Rubinho finally get a win with Brawn.

Kovalainen disappointed massively. He just went backwards all through the race, I'd be surprised to see him in a McLaren next year.

Badoer. I am already tired of Badoer. He lives in Spin City, except he lives there on a hot and dry day and not on a rainy day.

Kimi did well, and Rosberg and Alonso managed to grab some points too.

Button is very lucky. Vettel don't like to have any working engines, Webber don't like tyres and nobody likes this new Valencia track.

It'll be more down to McLaren taking points of his rivals than him winning.

You can only really judge him against Rubens, now the pressure is on he cannot even beat him, where as earlier in the season without pressure he was easily the quickest of the two.

Maybe he is terrible at car setup. Remember, he had to borrow Rubinho's setup many times this year.

Rubinho may have done what Alonso did at McLaren after Hungary 2007, pay his mechanics to not reveal setup changes to Jenson's crew.

Wouldn't be the first average driver to be a champ in superior car ;)

Nonsense. He was a good driver even when he first entered F1 and that was in an inferior car.

Most of them are at about the same level, bare the seldom talents like Schumacher or Senna (and none of the current drivers is even near being such).

It's not that simple, sure those two were huge talents, but then again, for example Häkkinen and Räikkönen could both challenge Schumacher so either could be on top at the end of the race with ~equal cars.
Shame for Häkkinen's accident back in the days, he was even faster before it

Sorry but those two never were even near (not only) IMO. Ever since Senna, Prost, Mansell, Schumacher, the next such a big one has yet to appear.

Many disagree with you, too ;)

And tbh, big part of Schumachers fame comes from other things than just his talent, Brawn who went with him had his part, the fact the cars were built only for him had a part and so on.
(no, I'm not saying he wasn't a huge talent, he obviously was, but those things still had an effect on how it all turned to be)

Personally, I hold Senna as the best F1 driver no questions asked.
Schumacher, Häkkinen, Räikkönen, Alonso are more or less equal driver wise, they're all huge talents IMO, Hamilton might be up there when he gets more experience and car developement / settings skill.
Schumacher just had the luxury of having car built only for him and the brains of Brawn behind him.

Guess who's won 3 of the last 4 F1 races at Spa? Why, none other than Kimi Räikkönen. Guess what the next race is? Why, it's the Belgian Grand Prix.
