Formula 1 - 2009 Season

Yep, if they strike over this, they will not get any sympathy from anyone.

They will from me because it's completely unjust.

Forget for a minute how much they earn. The teams, who are the employers and who should pay, earn far more.

So the teams should be paying these"expenses" and they should be arguing with the FIA.

And the FIA have provided no break down on why the cost went up so much, lets see the facts and figures. At the moment it seems the FIA simply said lets multiply by xN to make some more money....

Balanced reporting right there, mentioning numbers for the top earner and then hand waving about the fact that "Most of the grid are millionaires" and not even going into what the people on the back grid actually earn. Somehow I doubt 285K $ is anywhere near pocket change for them ...

That reporter should really try to keep his jealousy hidden a little better, complaining about his own salary is neither here nor there.

Regarding grandprix.com, they post opinion pieces like this all the time. It is not a report.

Anyway, the backmarkers don't have to pay that much, because they haven't earned enough points. Let's look at the math of the 2008 season:

Yeah im sure Kimi is crying his heart out losing that 200k with his 15million dollar a year paycheck... That is excluding any other things he does.

Really, non of they guys having to pay a substantial amount of money for the licence has to worry about it.

The ones who earn the most should pay the most. If Sutil wins the 2009 world championships next year in his Force India, I bet he'll get a huge bonus and thus he'll be able to pay.

Of course it does according to the times kimi earns £20 mil thats $27 mill
he had to pay out 1/130th of his wages, I bet you pay more than that for your driving license ;)

I don't have to pay it every year, and most certainly I don't have to pay more for it, because I'm a better driver than somebody else and I sure as hell don't have to pay more for it than people who make less money than me. You guys sound like commies to me.

These guys have too much money.

Pay them how much normal sportsperson gets paid, they will shut up about having to pay minor fee.

End of story.

Yeah, let's make them pay 10x more for everything: water, milk, food, road taxes you name it, because you know making and having money is evil and you will have to be punished for it. You guys are sad little puppies.

But nobody is paying depending on how much they earn, they are paying an amount based on how successful they are. Massa has to pay a lot more this year even thoguh he earns nowhere near as much as Kimi.....

The main point is that it was increased was to cover the health and safety aspect. Given that, everybody should be asked for the same amount of money (if you think employees should pay for health and safety at work).

It's not fair to ask employees to pay for health and safety
It's not fair to charge them on how successful they are
It's not fair to ramp up the prices more than the rate of inflation when the organisation doing that is talking about cutting costs for everybody else.

But what else do you expect from Max and his cronies ?

Jezus it boggels the mind how you can complain about this. Even the guys at the back of the grid earn more money in 1 year than the average person will do in 20 years. Really, its pocket change for them. If they even have to pay for themselves because I wouldnt be suprised at all if the teams just pay up for the extra fees. Ofcourse nobody is going to admit that because everybody would be disgusted about some guy earning 20+million a year complaing about 200k he has to pay for money that is than being spend on his own safety.

If they dont want to pay I think they should give him a aluminium build car again. Lets see how long it takes before they dont mind at all paying a little extra for a nice carbonfibre cockpit.

I think if they would make the licence fee equal to all drivers on the grid, they'd be limited to realistic funs and the lowest wages. Obviously, there's a large difference between what a driver earns at Ferrari or what they earn at other, less successful, teams. Making the fee dependant on the rankings (and thus, earnings of the driver), they can justify much higher fees and gain a lot more money in total.

I would think Massa got a nice bonus for doing so well last year.

That's probably because you totally lack the comprehension of the concept "treating all men equal" If you didn't you'd realise that asking a x amount of money from a person A and 26x amount of money from a person B for a similar service is not treating all men equal. I'm sure you get the concept when you yourself stand to benefit from it in someway...
