Formula 1 - 2008 Season

Pre season test say nothing anyway. As always you dont know how much fuel etc they are running but more important you wont see the final aero package untill friday before the race and that probably were the biggest advantage in time is going to come from.

Ferrari duo Felipe Massa and Kimi Raikkonen led the way on the first major head-to-head test with new cars on Tuesday, although it was the pace of the Williams that caused a few surprises.

Massa and Raikkonen continued development work of their F2008 at Valencia in Spain, and Massa's best effort put him more than half a second clear at the end of the day.

But it was the early pace of the new Williams FW30, which only ran for the first time yesterday, that impressed onlookers - as Nico Rosberg set the third quickest time during a long run.

That effort put him almost two tenths ahead of McLaren duo Heikki Kovalainen and Pedro de la Rosa.

Fernando Alonso continued to put mileage on the new Renault R28, although his sixth fastest time was done on a short run.

Today's times:

Yeah, they had a picture of that front wing section up yesterday. Looks butt ugly. Heidfield seems not to be overly happy with the car yet either.

Rather amusing if BMW screws up. Toyota look like they have screwed up as well so once again the Williams team, who Bernie described as not relevant to the modern F1 world, is showing them the way. Perhaps.

Honda; well Ross has his work cut out.

Raikkonen aiming to end career with Ferrari

World Champion Kimi Raikkonen suspects that he will never again be a feature of the F1 driver market.

The 28-year-old Finn has told a Spanish newspaper that he will more than likely end his career with Ferrari, either at the close of the 2009 season, or beyond.

"I see no reason to leave this team," Raikkonen told Marca at the Valencia tests this week.

He said: "I have two years remaining on my contract, but in any case I believe that, whatever happens, this will be my last team."

Rosberg happy with new Williams racer

Nico Rosberg is delighted with the early progress of Williams' new car for 2008, the FW30.

The Toyota-powered car made its track debut this week over four days at Valencia, and Rosberg and team-mate Kazuki Nakajima spent the balance of the test not far from the leading pace.

"My feeling from the very beginning was good, and that is always a good sign," said 22-year-old Rosberg, who on Tuesday was outpaced only by Ferrari's impressive F2008.

Thanks for the links Dave. I remember watching ESPN a while back and they were dealing with how bad and racist the Spanish fans are. Some popular black soccer player was playing against a spanish team and people were holding up signs with "nigger" and such on it. The stadium did nothing about it and it wasn't just one guy. Gotta love ignorance.

The circuits and stadiums need to do a better job of banning such people but when you see comments like this:

Last October, its top racing official Carlos Gracia claimed BRITAIN was racist — and said it was ironic that fans here were counting on a black driver. He said: “It is perfectly normal for a British team and British fans to want to succeed in F1, but it is ironic that the racists in England are having to rely on a coloured pilot.”

I'd wonder if it's socially acceptable there.

Do you think it is a ghiost from the Franco years or is that too far in the past now?

Hopefully testing as Jerez next week will be better. Also I hope Williams will have sorted their front wing out and be even faster.

It'd be sad to see Barcelona go, but if this persists, I would say good riddance.

Spain is no better than the former Yugoslav republics.

Probably the most racist country in western europe.

It's always passed of as a minority, but it's funny how this minority manages to find it's way into 90% of all football matches and other sporting events held in Spain.

Former Yugoslav republics aren't racist in the slightest. They're nationalistic and that only towards each other (territorial pissings), that's a big difference.

I was born and raised there so I think I know what I'm talking about ;)

No it isn't, every time there is a football match down those parts the next day you can predict the headlines.

"Monkey chants" and "Throwing Bananas"

You surely can differ between pun and fan-driven ramblings and real racism? Whan it's about bringing your "oponent" down, people will say or do whatever it takes to "hurt" or discourage someone. That's simple stupidity, not more than that.

It's racism anyway you wish to slice it.

Anyway, that is not a debate for this thread I don't think, so lets just agree to disagree.

The italians aren't a whole lot better... never seen it during races of any sort, but have heard of it in some football matches, especially champions league
