Final Fantasy XIII [PS3, X360]

Edge aren't just harsh reviewers, which by itself woudln't be a problem. They are biased reviewers:

God of War 3: 94 average, Edge 80 (-14)
Heavy Rain: 87 average, Edge 70 (-17)
Uncharted 2: 96 average, Edge 90 (-6)
Uncharted Drake's fortune: 88 average, Edge 80 (-8)
Killzone 2: 91 Average, Edge 70 (-21)
Ratchet ACIT: 87 Average, Edge 70 (-17)
Ratchet TOD: 89 Average, Edge 80 (-9)
Resistance 2: 87 Average, Edge 60 (-27)
Resistance FOM: 86 Average, Edge 70 (-16)
MGS4: 94 Average, Edge 80 (-14)
GT5P: 80 average, Edge 70 (-10)
Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2: 83 average, Edge 70 (-13)
Motorstorm PR: 82 Average, Edge 70

Average: 14.3 points lower than Metacritic

And to prove they are not just harsh reviewers:

Halo ODST: 83 Average, Edge 90 (+7)
Halo 3: 94 Average, Edge 100 (+6)
Forza 3: 92 Average, Edge 90 (-2)
Forza 2: 90 Average, Edge 90 (0)
Fable 2: 89 Average, Edge 90 (+1)
Gears of War 2: 93 Average, Edge 90 (-3)
PGR3: 88 Average, Edge 90 (+2)
PGR4: 85 Average, Edge 90 (+5)
Ace Combat 6: 80 Average, Edge 80 (0)
Crackdown: 83 Average, Edge 80 (-3)
L4D: 89 Average, Edge 90 (+1)
L4D2: 89 Average, Edge 90 (+1)
Ninja Gaiden 2: 81 Average, Edge 80(-1)

Average: 1.1 point higher than Metacritic

I rest my case, it's crystal clear what they are.

The funny thing is , having played the majority of games on that list. The only bias i see is they like crappy halo games a bit to much.

But the majority of those ps3 games are not 90% plus titles and sometimes like with ninja gaiden the title was a year later and did not improve much and most likely kept many of the flaws that existed in the first verison. ALong with another revier and I can see why it would have a diffrent score.

I'm Anthony P mate.

Ah ! That makes sense. I thought it was oramay.

Id suggest upgrading accessories rather than main weapons. You get better stat gains from them for less exp and they are interchangable.

Great advice ! Does upgrading the accessories cost more than upgrading the main weapons in that case ? It just seems very expensive to upgrade 2 rings (Okay, I think I maxed out the ring specs, but still !).

Been playing this today and it's possibly the slowest start to a game I've ever seen. I managed to get through the first three hours or so using only the X button :/ Most of my fights last under 10 seconds or so, and I haven't gotten under five stars yet. Just got access to the Crystalarium, so the battle system is starting to open up, but golly-gosh, I wish developers wouldn't keep treating us like idiots. Or buffering a 20hr RPG with an extra 20hrs of "training" filler.

On the plus side, it's very pretty. Looking forward to the game being taken off rails.

I agree they overdid the intro. The combat system does build on top of itself. It will become more, and more, and MORE, and M-O-R-E biggest. ^_^

I highly recommend you to start toying with the combat system even when the enemies look easy. Because when Odin shows up suddenly, you'll become the dude who says, "Wait, there is an exam today ? No one told me about it ! [Rage]". Trying to figure out the system at that point can be quite "stressful".

I do like the combat system, it's very Japanese and different from other games I played. That is a compliment. v_v

So, will there be a Final Fantasy XIII-2? The men laugh and begin to answer very diplomatically: “That depends on how well the game sells in the West!” But after pressing a bit, Kitase concedes he would very much like to do a direct sequel. “In the past three years we worked both on the world and on the various systems. Creating these systems isn’t very glamourous and can frankly be a bit boring. If we could do a XIII-2, we could direct all our attention to the story and refine what we have already built.”

Makes sense.

uh...Wow !
Btw is the game filled with epic soundtracks like this ?

After all this time, the thing that actually convinced me to get the game was that video. reminds me of the amazing, beautiful soundtracks of the older games, which really suck you into the story, and now i just can't let it get past me!

EDGE are like boys who eat nothing but Pizza Hut and chinese takeout and then asked to review a 5-star restaurant. They wouldn't know greatness if it hit them on the head. That's why FF13's production values are lost on them and get a 5/10.

What? Anyway, just passing by and haven't played this game yet. Continue with whatever you guys are conversing.

Ha ha, I don't know why but your nick popped up when I tried to remember who Antan was on my friends list.

Yes, the production value of FFXIII is high. The combat system is very elaborate and complex, but there is a one-click system to automate everything for newbies.

I don't know what to say about the game yet. Still in the early phase. It's like a strange journey into an unknown land.

Shadow of The Colossus ! Thats where I felt like that !;)

Just when I thought I was going to pass on all the big PS3 releases, I caved and got FFXIII. Heavy Rain and God of War 3's demoes didn't do those games any favors for me - I was bored out of my skull by GoW3, and Heavy Rain felt too lifeless and depressing. I loved the concept of FFXII and at first I was completely put off by the idea that the game was returning to what it was so long ago.

But then my memories of how magical each of the series has been to me even if I never played it to more than 25%, and starting to get a sense of how polished the game was from reading reviews and impressions I felt I might just like this game anyway. Especially comments about the battle-system still having some of the directness and speed of FFXII's comforted me, and I thought this time could be the first time I'd finish a full FF game, thanks to my friends on the internet.

So I bought it, and so far I'm really glad I did! The polish of this game is incredible, and the game plays smooth as butter. Loving it so far.

For the record, YES ! Heavy Rain is god-damned depressing. But it is also powered by intense emotion. Lifeless it may look, but soulful it is -- especially if you are a father.

EDIT: So you finished FFXIII already ? I saw you in it for quite a long time.

You ever think its just a crappy game ?

My friend only played 3 hours and went to trade it in. I haven't touched a FF since part 7 and even that was pretty bad.

When you compare the new final fantasy to WRPGs you will find it quite lacking in the RPG side. Its my feelings and it seems edge feels the same way. I've read many complaints about the game and many feel that it comes into its own in the last hour or so of game. But to me thats not a good game at all. I don't want to play 39 hours just to have 1 good hour of gameplay

Chapter 7 thus far and it's one of this gens highlights in my eyes! Some of the architecture is just a sight to behold, and has been pointed out already......butter smooth! Battle system has revealed itself in full, and it's just fabulous. Battles now require plenty of thought which is how it should be. Top stuff all round.

Ha ha are you crazy? I said so far ... I'm only about 2-3 hours in I think, still wandering around in a frozen lake.
