Fallout 4 [PS4, PS5, XO, XBSX|S, PC, XGP]

How do we increase our Special points? It only let's me unlock perks when I level up
Instead of picking a perk go to the top line in the perk chart and selecting that will bump the associated S.P.E.C.I.A.L stat.

Holy lol ! And I unlocked weird perks which are never doing anything for me :p !
Now I need to level up multiple times to unlock master locksmith so that I can get that cryo gun I saw in the vault ! Could have been done by now if I had known !

Anyways, game is so good and contrary to what the hoopla is , its very beautiful ! The lack of shadows just 2 feet away is very appalling though and the only blemish that ruins the scenery.

Level 18 for rank 3 in lockpicking - that's a level and a bit for me and I'd hit level in a couple of hours if I stopped buggering about with my settlement at Starlight Drive In but that's not going to happen any time soon :nope: I'm finding this base building strangely

There is so much cool stuff to explore in this game - a couple of side quest I've done have taken several hours and were great fun - and the the bottom half of the map (excluding downtown Boston) and the top right quarter are completely unexplored!! I've clocked up 50 hours thus far so kudos to reviews for not getting distracted like me and completing the main quest in 50-60 hours.

Same here...I would have levelled up much more by now if I would do quests, but instead I find myself just walking in a direction and finding one interesting thing after the other .....landed up in Lexington just now though I was supposed to be going to some settlement.

Levelling up by just killing enemies is pretty pretty slow.

The leveling up was confusing at first. I thought it was giving me a stat point and then was expecting a skill point. So for every level I was bumping up a stat, but never saw a skill point. Finally I realized what was happening, they share the same point and all I had to do was scroll down. That was not obvious. Now I have too many points in stats I don't need yet.

I'm around 20 hours in I think and am starting to encounter the classic Morrowind / Oblivion / Fallout 3 / Skyrim style sporadic zero FPS frame drops. It's not affecting play much right now but hopefully it doesn't get worse.

Also, this game is crazy quiet on PS4 (crazy fun too though).

Ok, so I made some videos to help out with some stuff.

I made a basic tutorial for the (confusing) Workshop and Settlements:

How to craft adhesives! They're so hard to come by in the wasteland so why not just made them. I show how to harvest the materials for this:

...and finally, if you're just curious about my thoughts on the game (spoiler-free!), then I've got a video for that too. :)

Hope these help! :D

I've found that unlmited inventory makes some of the features in the game pointless, like Supply Lines (which sounds fun). Thinking about going back to a ~1000lb limit so I can make use of that stuff. On the other hand it is damn nice not to have to worry about filling up when I'm out exploring...:-?

Guess I can set it back and then if I fill up at an inconvenient place I can up it again temporarily until I can make it back to base. Yeah that's what I'm gonna do.

Whoopsie I meant to post this in the PC thread but there is no delete post any more so I'll leave it.

Now I have too many points in stats I don't need yet.

Stats you don't need? Ideally you want all the S.P.E.C.I.A.L stats at 10 or as close as and they all impact moment to moment gameplay even when you've taken no perks.

Tuesday thru Thursday I was playing with headphones and the audio was fine but today I'm just playing with just the TV speakers and I noticed the audio is real quiet and the voices in particular were getting drowned out by gunfire and screams. If you go into Settings you can change the relative audio levels of of Voice, Music, Effects, Footsteps and Radio. I've set the levels of Master Audio and Voice to maximum and the rest at around 70% which means I'm not missing critical audio any more.

The audio in this game is both crazy good and crazy bad. The music and effects are fantastic, as is much of the voice work - particularly Magnolia - that was standout! But the way the game mixes voices in realtime drives me nuts. Sometimes I'll be listening to a quest giver and a nearby NPC is saying it's random lines over the quest giver. And how hard would it be just to mute the radio during conversations?

I guess that's what subtitles are for and this is my only complaint with the game.

Good to know. The one stat I wish I had bumped was luck, I want the gore perk!

Loving the game....holy moly it consumed my whole morning :runaway: !

The only perk that has shown tangible results is the armourer perk which opened up new armour crafting and I crafted some cool stuff......and of course the lockpicking perk has visible effects.

The rest, like the one which makes non-automatic weapons do more damage, never seems to kick in as I never see the icon on screen ! Also , the one which let's u take more damage. I hope these are passive perks and work all the time.

Also, I am completely confused about the whole power armour thing. Mine is just gathering dust in sanctuary ! I found more parts for it from a raider in Lexington but they are lying in a workbench there....too heavy.

Do u guys stay in power armour all teh time? What exactly consumes a fusion core and what doesn't?

The vast majority of perks are passive so if you take a the first rank of Rifleman ("Keep your distance long and your kill-count high. Attacks with non-automatic rifles do 20% more damage") whenever you use a non-automatic rifle it'll just do more damage - you don't initiate a special attack for get more damage. Take the first rank in Explosives and all types of explosives (all mines and grenades/molotovs will do 25% extra damage).

Remember despite Fallout 4 feeling like a shooter it's an RPG so everything is about numbers and probabilities. It helps to pick a play style so you can minmax the hell out of the perks that'll help you the most. E.g. I'm playing a sneaky sniper so I'm obviously taking all the ranks in Rifleman (the Perception rank 2 perk) as soon as I can (the five Ranks of rifleman unlock at levels 1, 9, 18, 31 and 46) because that improves my rifle's base damage and mitigates the armour protection targets have (Rifleman ranks 2 and up) but I'm also taking Mister Sandman (the Agility rank 4 perk) because as well as letting me instantly kill sleeping targets it also boosts sneak attack damage to 30% at rank 2. So now at level 18 when I perform a sneak attack Rifleman boosts my sniper weapon damage of 82 by base damage by 60% (negating 20% of the targets armour protection) and Mister Sandman boosters the damage by 30%. I put a suppressor on my rifle back at lvl 13 so I can generally kill quietly and keep those sneak attack bonuses. Once you've in open combat you lose the sneak attack bonus.

In terms of passive gains the same goes for your S.P.E.C.I.A.L stats, improving each stat makes your life easier. If you improve Perception then targeting in VATS is better and lock picking and pickpocketing is easier. If you improve Intelligence you'll gain more exp for any given action relative to lower intelligence so you level faster and get perks faster.

Also, I am completely confused about the whole power armour thing. Mine is just gathering dust in sanctuary ! I found more parts for it from a raider in Lexington but they are lying in a workbench there....too heavy.

Remember your companion can carry stuff. Put the targeting reticle on then, then chose Command then Trade and you can see both inventories.

Everything you do will drain the core. Walking about will consume the core at a fairly slow rate but it'll drain faster the more strain you put on it. You can fast travel wearing it for free though!

I've not used the power armour outside of the Deathclaw fight. I've collected a bunch more T-45 armour pieces from a downed Vertibird and have about 10 cores, eight of which are 100% capacity. I'm keeping it in reserve for when I need it. That and Im playing a sneaky sniper so it doesn't suite my play style but I have a lot of in your face weaponry (minions, the Cryolator - only 200 rounds though!, flavours, the Fat Man mini-nukes) so I'm ready for some carnage.

I do like playing a sniper though and Dogmeat is a great companion for that class/build.

Oh and Codsworth is a bloody killing machine ! He is my best buddy, kills half of the enemies himself
I have so many companions now: Dogmeat, two robots, two ghouls and two humans. If you like robots you will probably love Curie, a french doctor robot. She's so sophisticated as she goes around murdering raider! :) They've really gone to town with the bespoke Mr Handy personalities in Fallout 4. I've loved all of the Mr Handy robots I've encountered which is about 8 or 9. The English gangster robot is also very cool.

Please don't spoil stuff !!! I have totally stayed away from all info to actually feel the feels !

Wanted to upload many more, but looks like they are too big for B3D and need to be converted to jpeg first.

Knowing there are other robots is spoiling? Uhhh.. okaaaaay. :???:

Moving on, having played 18 levels exclusively with the dog I took a ghoul companion out with me and really appreciate him in larger gun fights. I love Dogmeat but in big gun fights in dangerous places he's just blowing himself up or getting mowed down bathing to a target. A second gun really changes the pace of battles plus there is no language barrier.

Whine whine bark. What? You're hungry? You found an enemy? You hate this song? WTF do your whines and barks mean, Dogmeat!?!?! :???:

New guide!

Due to popular demand, I made a video about Power Armor, Fusion Cores, The Power Armor Station and the required Perks:

Sounds like the consoles are performing similar to my 6970. The quality settings and comments on performance quirks are familiar. I bet the Corvega area is causing some forum bitching. That area is so bizarrely demanding.

Corvega and the Combat Zone are the only areas where I've seen sustained framerate dips, overall I'm really pleased with the performance on a cheap console

I'm more than sixty hours in now. Yesterday I took a break from the main quest and exploring and cleared up a bunch of the quests I'd picked up in the various settlements I'd found to date and this pushed to me level 22. I've not yet found a quest that I didn't enjoy and have fun with and the writing is a huge improvement over previous games.

Level 23 means Gun Nut Rank 3 which means I can modify proper sniper rifles and drop the heavily modified pipe rifles I'm currently using but which admittedly have served me well. I have one maxed out with a NV scope and one with a Recon scope. I wish it was possible to have a combined Recon NV scope but c'est la vie!

Right.. back into the wasteland..
