Epic Records and Xbox 360

I know you're joking, but you do realize that Sony and MS cooperate in more ways than they actually compete. In fact, there's only one area in which they do compete, and that's on the game console front (so it's a biggie). But still, this should come as a surprise to no one.

PS Did you know that Microsoft ships a version of Office on the Macintosh platform?

Isn't it due to be discontinued after the next release?

From what I understand, the Mac business unit at Microsoft is profitable. So I doubt it...

So what is the catch? Why are the videos free?

I'd have to say the "catch" is that they are getting to market the artists of their choice to people who see this service as something other than a marketing channel.

Ah yep, it's just all the free software that's being discontinued. (IE, WMP)

It's a marketting hook. It's too get users comfortable with the idea of downloading music videos and related content. Later there will be other videos, these for sale. If people have to pay to try something, they likely won't bother. But everyone's keen on a free sample! This is the same philosophy as free chocolates or perfume sprays at various shops/malls.
