This is basically what the hardcore sony fans in this thread are saying.

1. Anything sony does is good and anythign MS does is bad. Anything sony does is funny, and anything MS doesn't is in bad taste ad will come back to haunt them. There's no middle ground, Sony's marketing has class and MS's doesn't.

This is what the xbox fans, developers, and people that are neutral are saying.

1. Jokes like this are all in good fun and come from both sides, both sony and MS. None of it is considered to be in bad taste by anyone that isn't a brand loyalist. This has nothing to do with marketing as it's not meant to target the general public, only those in the game industry. It's essentially inside jokes for media and game developers.

Yeah I think that about sums up this thread.

You still don't get it,do you? Cease for just one minute and look at the approach these two companies take. You notice Sony's approach isn't a directed action to where it belittles their competitor (a threat in simple terms). It is more of a caution. Now,if you look at Microsoft. They are sending out a directed action,a threat to their competitor. This is what's hurting their name, and it will haunt them if this strategy doesn't suceed.Do you get it now?Their approach is just plain immature, simple as that.

I still don't get what the problem.

Sony puts down ms every chance they can get. ALl companys do that .

Esp when your the under dog. You allways try and play it up .

Look at pepsi and coke. Pepsi is small compared to coke and pepsi will bash coke every chance they get in comercial s

Actually, Pepsi and Coke haven't really bashed each other in ages. The occasional "taste test" commercial now and then, but I'm much happier with them doing their own thing. "Bashing" gets like political advertisements--it's just silly and tends to tell nothing. I'd rather they just be impressive or funny--downputting is tiresome. (I'll accept the occasional snipe at a MacWorld Keynote, though, because it's very cathartic for them. ;) )

I'd take a billion "she kicks high"s for one of "The Rookie" crap. MS should just come up with more commercials (or other promos) like this one. Fantastic!

That was a well made commercial.
Though maybe not psychologically too good.

I can imagine a "30 something" getting a little depressed, being reminded that they're getting old quick.
I know that was the thought I got in my mind everytime I saw that ad.
But most propably it's just me, 'cos I'm traumatized as hell :)

Edit: And I am not '30 something', I'm still a fresh 25 year old (and intend to be next year, year after that, 2 year after...)

How about the trucks . The coke one has a stock stero in the comercial and is blasting it adn then the pepsi one has a tricked out truck with hubs , subs and hydrolics(sp?)

The hendrix one where the pepsi machine is outside the guitar store and the coke one is outside the acordian (sp?) store .

You really can´t compare a commercial with what MS did with "The Novice".

All the "jokes" in the novice where "inside-jokes".. (sucking pizza through a strawberry, or rather play chu chu rocket online, Fever and what where you thinking etc)

If you aren´t in the biz or haven´t followed the last E3s and such, you wouldn´t understand The Novice, whereas a fun commercial is understood by anyone...

so the comparison is pretty lame according to me...

Exactly, lame is 100% correct. Digging up this topic again is also lame... It should really be locked by now.

Certain sony fans will simply never see this point view.

Errr... you just bumped the thread then complain about somone digging up the topic again...? :? If u really wanted it to go down, u'd have left the thread go down. Replying to it will only put it back on top. I though u knew this already.
And why should it be locked again? Because so-called "sony fans" disagree with you? :|

If u want this thread to end, then just stop replying ot it!

I agree.

How can you,Q,set there and call everyone else that doesn't agree with you a fan-boy?What makes your opinion any better than anyone elses in this forum?I could just as well call you a fan-boy for disagreeing with me;afterall, you are the only one thus far whos initiated the term, but that still isn't going to help my debate none, now is it?.And what is so bad about the thread that it requires locking if you don't mine me asking? From my perspective,it only seems that you have grown insecure about having someone differ whatever it is you want them to think, which is probably why you've reduce yourself to name calling.

London boy,

Obviously you didn't see how many people posted in this thread TODAY alone. There was like 5 posts before mine, and I specifically chose not to respond to the post that dug up this thread. If you bothered to pay attention you'd realize that I didn't reply to furthe rcomments on the topic, because this thread should be barried. So thank you very much for the advice, but it's not necessary or needed.

Spidermate,

How can you,Q,set there and call everyone else that doesn't agree with you a fan-boy?

For your information I DIDN'T call eveyrone that didn't agree with me a fanboi. I said a fanboi simply can't see two sides of an argument. if you think that applies to you or anyone else then that's your opinion. I do think anyone making a big deal out of all this is speaking fanboi talk... but I don't think that makes them a fanboi. I can also say something that makes me sound like a fanboi in a topic, but that doesn't mean I have the brand loyalty to back it up as it could be something I don't really care about.

And what is so bad about the thread that it requires locking if you don't mine me asking? From my perspective

I'd say this thread deserves locking since neither party can come to any sort of agreement and the thread just keeps getting dragged on and on. Obviously you'd agree with that.

you have grown insecure about having someone differ whatever it is you want them to think, which is probably why you've reduce yourself to name calling.

Whatever... I was one of a few people that said this wasn't a big deal and people needed to relax. If you still want to make somehting out of nothing go ahead and knock yourself out. IMO only fanboi's do that... Here's what I think makes someone a fanboi.

1. If you apply human like characteristics to any company.
2. If you think that company can do no wrong.
3. If you ignore facts and or proof.
4. If you make something out of nothing, no matter how small.
5. If you troll a thread trying to get under peoples skin.

THere's probably more, but i won't bother...

Calm down and keep the thread on topic .

Some people like diffrent things .

I find gta 3 childish. Many like it .

I liked this demo . Many think its lame .

No need to fight over it .

I was just pointing out that rivals normaly take pot shots at each other .
