Maybe it's time for console game makers to optimize two presets to choose from for the final game, one being 1080p/30fps and the other whateverp/60fps. This shouldn't be too difficult should it?
I think it would be rather difficult. Frame rate has an impact on the whole system. You're entire engine has to run at 60fps. While resolution is mainly limited by GPU and bandwidth, I think.
Dealing with something like X1's ESRAM, I think it is more difficult with various resolutions even if the the resources and buffers are tiled. You ideally want to optimize for one setting and not introduce overhead associated with variability.
I don't think any developer would spend time and money on something like this.
