Will both consoles have day one BF4 patch ?

I believe so.

My conclusion from this faceoff is: Buy the console your friends or buying, or that has the other features you care about (Remote Play on PS4, Kinect etc), or has the exclusives that you want. It's not worth worrying about the performance of the multiplatform games. If you have both, just buy the version your friends are getting.

Looking at the IGN video there's not that much difference besides the lack of AO. X1 looks sharper but jaggier, and the PS4 looks smoother but blurrier.

DF captures look screwed on both platforms. Looking at other sources they both look very similar to the PC.

I think DF is losing its credibility, what little it has left. Too bad they corner the market for these comparisons right now. The door is wide open for a new provider, someone with less bias and better technical skills.

Bias?

They screwed up their captures, or seems that way. That's a pretty big mistake when it's your business to do that kind of thing perfectly. But bias?

It's only bias if their opinion doesn't agree with yours! I kid...

At end of day, PS4 is pushing more pixels, MP looks better and seems to be steadier in terms of fps. I can't wait until final versions are out for a more in-depth comparison.

Multiplat performance, ad least on launch games, is going to change a lot of your so called "friends" perception anyway.

And - why do I buy what my friends are buying? Why dont THEY buy what I buy?

That being said, I fully agree with the features angle. For me, the feature I like best is the ability to play games that look better, I really dont care about any other stuff.

For me, the difference between the graphics is not big enough to justify playing on a different platform than my friends. If they all bought ps4, I'd buy ps4. If they all bought xbox, I'd buy an Xbox.

Leadbetter has said he is looking into the issue with their captures looking different from everyone else's. I doubt it will come to anything.

In fact the PC test is based on "two HD 7970 cross-fired", which are way better than the GPU of both consoles. However, the image quality is still very impressive on consoles, e.g. equivalent to high settings of PC with 1600 x 900 for PlayStation 4 version.

Can we have better estimation of actual performance of next generation machines now? For example, if we want to run 1600 x 900, 60fps & high-setting on PC, what kind of GPU & CPU should we use? I think it's a better way to estimate than comparing specs of GPUs.

I would wait a bit more to see how things go on a more relevant sample of titles.

If I'm not surprised by the difference in resolution I was actually expecting the XO to hold its own better wrt to frame rate.
The scaler in the XO seems to achieve pretty neat results. Though I spotted some oddities, the UI seems a bit blurry (or blurrier than on the PS4), especially the mini map which I was not expecting due to the display planes. I wonder if some comparison off shipping versions (+ patch) will pay attention to sound quality.

Something like a 7870 should get you there. Perhaps even a 7850. However memory bandwidth could be a limiting factor since the PS4 has more than even the 7870, but the 7870 does not share with the CPU. Looking forward to seeing how that plays out.

The CPU comparison will be more interesting. I expect lower end PC CPUs to be helped a lot by Mantle. Any modernish mid-high end CPU should have no trouble maintaining over 60fps with max settings regardless.

I noticed the UI as well on X1, so that is a bit curious. Could be they are not using the planes at all, maybe everything we are seeing is all down to cross-gen porting (PS4 & X1)

The weird blurriness in DF's PS4 images is hard to explain indeed. I know they said they had some kind of capture issues. But I'm not sure capture issues alone can explain the difference here.

Looks like actual image IQ loss due to some filter. Like some kind of effect gone wrong.
Yes, the PS4 version undoubtedly has superior resolution and HBAO, it has more pixels, but to me the IQ shows the Xbox One version has less pixels but superior quality pixels. -if that's a fad, or it is going to be the trend this generation I wouldn't complain-

I mean the Anisotropic Filtering seems to be better implemented on the Xbox One and the lighting has an extra touch, the blur is not present. (besides that, as some people pointed out, the hardware scaler on the Xbox One seems to be doing a good job)

In fact, if we hadn't known about the resolution and the framerate, AA, HBAO, most people would think the Xbox One version looks great if not better.

With what we know it shouldn't surprise us that a 3rd party game runs better on the ps4.

And as time goes by we will find out if the magic 32MB will be enough to make up the difference. This is not the final battle in this war just a starter :)
