Claimed: Oblivion coming to PS3, Nov 6 (launch?)

There are also some great texture packs for the ground textures. They can be found in the "must have mods for oblivion" thread in the games forum.

It looks more like the LOD distance was increased, a "problem" that FarCry had.
The Oblivion engine simply appears to be too stupid to reuse textures across exterior cells.

I.e. in the majority of cases these "LOD textures" for far-away exterior cells are little more than a waste of space. They carry the same pixel data that's already in memory, in the lower mipmap levels of textures already loaded for other cells, but they are forced to be separate textures. This is the cause of all these problems.

Unlike the real textures, there's a much lower limit to how far surface detail can scale up automatically with resolution (or AF). Hence the visible seams. They are far less visible at low resolution without AF.

Not only does this cause visual annoyances, but it wastes significant amounts of memory, too.

IMO there is only one technical explanation for this (that doesn't go along the lines of "utter morons at work"): you can't rely on neighbour exterior cells sharing textures. Sometimes, in boundaries between climate zones or whatnot, they will be different and you have to make provisions for those cases, especially with a hard limit on memory.

But that's only half the explanation. The other (rather more moronic) half is that if you have those provisions in place, if you are able to load distinct low-res textures for far-away exteriors, you rely on that system all the time. You forfeit all possible benefits, in visual quality and performance, that could be had by recognizing texture reuse across exterior tiles and acting accordingly.

That whole argument of course lends weight to "Oblivion fucked up by 360 (Core)".

Thats alot of grouped speculation on their part, not to mention on a bunch of threads trying to piece together RadiOPM's hints..... but it does make sense. I'm starting to think OPM's November cover title is indeed Oblivion. But I guess we shall find out in a little while. Issue comes out October 10th IIRC.

Well, I think everybody is looking for closure on this one. So either it's on the OPM cover or it officially debunked. At least it's off the table for quite a while.

I agree completely. I have been speculating on the cover myself quite a bit, so I'm guilty of trying to get "closure on this one" as well.

I think its good that PS3 gamers will get Oblivion, and it doesn't really bother me that its not exclusive for the X360 as Oblivion has had its time in the sun earlier this year. Although I'm not really looking forward towards fanboi dribble of 'OMG lyk Oblivion on da ps3 is way better dan on da x360 cuz of da Cell and blu-ray!!!!111' and constant comparisons.

exactly. great game, over-emotional fans.

To be fair, I'm not really excited about this if it is indeed Oblivion. I never really got into the the hype of the game (yes I played it), I dunno maybe it just wasnt for me. But if this is indeed true, It IS good news for Sony anyway you slice it. Exclusive MS title or multiplatform title, I'm sure Sony would choose the latter over the former.

In the end I think it's kinda funny I was accused of wishful thinking for stating this game would probably be on the ps3.

A number of us have thought Oblivion, AC, etc were MP for a long while. Obviously some games are more readily identifiable as multiplatform due to leaks, but Bethesda has never been very convincing. Basically if a developer does not say, "Exclusive" we can pretty much better the door is wide open for a port, and even "exclusive" can mean timed. To add to the tizzy, I expect Bioshock on the PS3 at some point as well.

As a quick side note, Bethesda is working on a special edition of Oblivion just for PS3. We were shown some screenshots (sadly, not the actual game) and it looks like an entirely different game. Every texture is being replaced with new extremely-high resolution ones. It’s basically what Bethesda wanted to do the first time until they ran into the DVDs capacity limit. BluRay fixes that little bottleneck.

Bethesda has a new publisher apparently. And this guy exclusively talks about first-party stuff.

"Oblivion is a perfect example that DVD is enough for next-gen" this is what MS PR tells.

Now Sony wants to slap MS in the face with Oblivion teh Blu-ray edition? Believe.

Well, Oblivion definitely did not took whole DVD9. And I don't remember that PS3 had more RAM to fit these ultra-high res textures, too.

Has anyone here actually listened to the 1up podcast where they claim Oblivion is coming to the PS3?

I've tried to find it, but it's no where to be found. Unless it's from one of the pre-E3 podcasts, I haven't listened to those yet.

I would hate to think all of this recent speculation is based on a rumor mentioned in their 4/7/06 podcast, but that's the only one that I can see fitting the description of talking about "Oblivion and its suspected expansions."

Well its a "colaborated guess" on a multitude of podcasts. Two from RadiOPM stating they have a huge cover game for their November issue stating its a Launch title and 5 words long. And then speculation from the latest 1up yours where Shane kinda leaks the words "Well I've heard Oblivion is supposed to be a launch title." Of course they could wind up being two different rumors and games, but they certainly mix with each other.

Here are the podcasts.

They mention the 2 hints of 5 words and launch title at the end.

About 75minutes into it, they mention the oblivion talk.
