CES 2006 News & Announcements

Actually, we know nothing of the sort. All we have are specs...

Ok then let me rephrase that.

Especially now that it looks like PS3 playback quality will be SCHWEET, from the specs.

(it will be hard to have a shitty playback quality with those specs, i mean they'd have to try really hard not to care!)

And the PS2 launch titles were pretty crappy, IIRC
There's no arguing with that. He's got you there, mckmass! ;)

12 bit per channel colour output on PS3 BluRay huh? Very useful. I hate the colour banding and artefacts of 24 bit colour. It'll be nice that finally we get to see photos that look like photo's instead of the posterized messes we've had to put up with so far :p

3 months? oh no. Spring goes all the way til June, so that's 6 months.

i remember reading on here an article that pointed to march in japan. even if it is 6 months away they haven't showed anything tangible to the consumers yet

Technically, they did show the box and controller. Which is tangible. :)

However I would expect an orgy of games presented in this Sony party in February. If it's still on.

Yeah i know they haven't showed anything tangible.

What KK's announcement and the PS3 Bluray demo tells us is that PS3 won't be delayed due to supposed "issues" with the Bluray player we were hearing.

It will be delayed because of RSX. ;)

Well RSX is out and about, right? This we *know* now. :p

Anyway have there been any further announcements on the Blu-ray movie front from, say Warner?

Also here's an interesting tidbit:

As co-developers of the Blu-ray next gen format, it was about time that Sony and Philips "offically" announced their Blu-ray disc players. However, they are still being cagey with the deets. Sony can only tell us that they plan to start offering a Blu-ray DVD player "this summer" while Philips, on the other hand, showed us a picture (above) but wouldn't commit to a date beyond second half of 2006. Come on sissys, Toshiba threw down two players for March supporting their HD DVD format. More details...pretty please?

So to me it seems Sony and Philips know the score and aren't going to set themselves up to be self-canabalized by 'PS3asBDplayer' sales. That fate is instead reserved for their partners.

ps3 is a no show? with it launching within 3 months in japan???

You should be asking yourself this question...why would Sony blow the lid on PS3 when they are having a dedicated PlayStation event in February and if the extra month or so will allow them to polish up what they will have to show?

Sony cannot repeat the mistakes Microsoft made with showing things that were not ready to be shown initially. That is your answer.
