At least Bungie uses lightmaps with direction information stored in SH.(halo lighting.zip, lightmap compression.pptx)
If I remember correctly Insomniac games use them as well.
Naughty Dog used at least per vertex SH for environments and have released compression paper on subject.
That's not ID's strength unfortunately. It seems they spend their resesearch budget on all aspects megatextures (compression/decompression/storing/fetching/etc.) and post-processing effects. The basic lighting scheme still looks pretty similar to Doom3.
