Business Approach Comparison Sony PS4 and Microsoft Xbox

because, i really want my phone (and laptop) to work offline

Honestly I'm kinda surprised to see you supporting the new xbone given your stance on edram for the xb360. The xbone takes that concept and pushes it to 9000. Not only a return of edram, but 6t sram which costs 6x as many transistors. Roughly as many transistors in embedded ram as are in their entire gpu.

That design is ok with you now?

/offtopic

I just see the entirety of their business approach with xbone as an assumption based on user ignorance and/or negligence of their users.

And I dont really know if some nefarious hacker turned my phone cam on and I dont know it. I just assume that doesn't happen because well, I'm reasonable in that respect.

I could say something stupid like "but my phone could spy on me everywhere! That makes the phone uniquely dangerous! At least Kinect is only in one room of my house!".

I mean, if I was being dumb.
Well its not the hacker I am afraid of the most. Its how corporations and government/non governmental institutions handle my information or will handle one day in the future

Whats great is that in my field of work... thats exactly what we can do. Virtually any smartphone on earth can surreptitiously spy on its owner any where it is and provide location data, sound, video and photos as long as it has a power source.

Yet they sell by the millions daily

As I said, if the device were not mandatory in every box (as has been said previously, every game requires it to be used) and the box were not mandated to connect to the internet, then this would not be an issue. As is, this is a marketers dream box.

They can not only tell how many people are in the room, but whether they are watching and whether they are "enjoying" what they watch.

This is all beside the point though.

Bottom line is that the game hardware in the box is severely hampered in comparison to the competition and as a business decision, it was a foolish one which will most likely cost them considerably more than the extra 6cus + ram would have.

But you know ... suits with dollar-signs-in-their-eyes can't see too clearly.

You know why MS does this? Kinect uses learning algorithms to tune itself to better address the userbase.

That's just a bit naive isn't it?

That's like saying the reason facebook/google collects so much data from you is so they can save it - for your future use.

Again though, this is all secondary to the main issue which is that MS consciously decided that either their customers were either A) idiots and wouldn't notice the performance deficit to their competition, or B) MS don't care about the core gamer leaving their marketshare and are happy to fill in the void with TV viewers (big assumption that new users would fill that void).

A) This is B3D, of course I resent this
B) Good luck getting casuals/tv watchers to pay $500 for a console and $50 per year when there are many others vying for this same market offering services for cheap/free.

For A, You would have to be able to present the deficit as a worthwhile _difference_ not just a distinction.

For B, I dont remember the amount the XB live players currently (48 million I think I read) but thats a lot of damn people who bought a console at a "deficit" to PS3. and pay $60 a year for the privlege.

You can disable the camera or opt out of sending any user identifiable data in the privacy setting for Kinect.

Then, Why are you using the internet? even when using google your information is stolen.
Simple...bad habit. Internet has become such in integral part in our lives that it is very hard to leave it. Which is sad and worrying and I dont think its a good idea to use one bad habit to excuse the beginning of another.

It is not the "beginning" of another, that's the internet, Kinect or not kinect, Xbox One or not Xbox One, if you are afraid of information stolen, then don't use internet at all, don't use PSN, don't use Nintendo Network, and don't use Cell phones.

30-50% is a pretty big difference.

As for the xb360 deficit to ps3, DF face-off disagrees with you 9 times out of 10.

Had ps3 been a tricore xenon with 72 pipes instead of 48 in xb360 with one unified pool of 512mb gddr3, perhaps the story would have been different.

This time, there is nothing standing between the theoretical power difference of the consoles and the real power difference.

In fact, given all of the periphery that MS intends to do with the box, it seems the power difference may be more than I'm giving credit for. CPU reserves, Ram reserves, high level access vs low level, these things also take away from performance by some degree.

Again, if the intent was to add superfluous features to the box, then it would behoove them to design the box in such a way as to not hinder the primary purpose of the box purchase in the first place.

... Or just don't use an xbone. Carrying this thought to conclusion, don't buy xbone. There are alternatives. And it just so happens that some of these alternatives are better at their primary purpose of providing convincing interactive media.

Alternatives that will use internet too.

I get the impression the hardware difference may be better hidden with dynamic image quality here. PS4 games will look sharper but otherwise very similar.

We had 50% (or more) differences with some multiplatform games for PS360. Like 600p versus 720p with more consistant update on the other.

PS4 comes with PSeye HD in every box. It has video and audio tracking. Your PS4 will be connected to the internet all the time as long as you are making use of internet functions and services like background downloads. Sony have even suggested making content available predictively.

Whatever your complaints against MS, Sony are in the same boat.

Alot of what you say is simply opinion.

I disagree with your characterization and your assumption. Better is qualitative not quantitative.

Last I heard (and it was quite clear), one of them does not require an internet connection, nor does it require a camera pointed at your face that will detect your heart rate and degree of smile.

It just so happens that this one also provides a superior gaming experience.

Seems to be a simple decision to me.

Thank you. I stated this before but the ones who have made there minds up dont care to acknowledge it.
