Burnout: Paradise City

Thanks Shifty, I've seen real faw captures of this game so far, I 'm willing to see real discussions about the gameplay, more beatiful captures from ours dear forumers, etc.

Day one purchase.

Does anyone have any technical stats on this game?

Like geometry (polys-per sec), physics, particles, etc..?

This game is beyond amazing in my honest opinion…there’s so much detail to everything. Besides the obvious nocks like aliasing everywhere and some weird anisotropic mosquito netting affect going on (the ground shimmering effect). The game is rather beautiful and just plain damn fun to play. Previously I gave it a score of 8/10…well I changed my mind to 9/10. If they would have nailed the IQ settings a little better, it would have been a 10 in my book.

For me personally, I think the game gets better the more you play it. There is really a lot of depth to it. The same goes for the crashes ... the more you see them, the better you realise how good they are ... they're really never the same, and the more you see them the more you realise how good and convincing they get.

100% agree!!

Man, we still haven't tried SHOWTIME mode yet, you hold L1 + R1 and you start a crash at any time!!!!

Is it in the demo? Besides how good the graphics look I am dissapointed so far with the direction of this game. This feels more like Need for Speed: Most Wanted with crashes than Burnout in an open world setting.

they added a sandbox feel to the game, but there are still going to be events in the game (there are even events in the demo). thats essentially what Burnout 3 was, a series of events. now, you just have to find the events on the map.

as for the visuals, i'm fine with them. although it definitely looks like a 60fps game.

Nah no showtime in the demo :( and only like 3 traffic lights :( Full game has every traffic light with an event, but sometimes you want to retry an event cause you crashed just before the finish line. But you cant! you have to drive all the way back to that traffic light again :( Now that is the wost thing about this game, but i'll get over it, until there are like only 3 events left to do in the full game :(

I hear this game has no split-screen multi-player. If true, I'll be disappointed. This was the one thing that bothered me about Motorstorm. I want to play with my friends when they come over! It's no fun to sit there watch some one play or to take turns....

Other than that, I think the demo is great. Online multi-player can be a blast, especially with the usb camera feature! It's hilarious to see the things that people do when you take them down. This demo actually prompted me to go out and buy the PlaystationEye, which I had virtually no interest in before...

I still want my split-screen multi-player though!

reflections are better on PS3 and some say the framerate stutters in rare occasions on 360 (very minor stutters though). both are minor differences... i doubt anyone will skip out on the 360 version because of this. i think Burnout is closer than even CoD4; its probably the closest multiplatform game released so far.

I'm not sure the PS3 has better reflection or not. However, from these screenshots, I like the 360 more mainly because the reflection aren't so alias (see pic 1, 3, 5 from the following URL). Over all both looks very much the same, there are some minor differences, but not enough to jump out at you.

I didn't really like the lighting and the their usage of bloom in the demo. Is there a day/night cycle in this game? Or is it perpetually dawn/dusk?

I did really like the crashes. Very satisfying.

And I did appreciate the rock solid 60fps without even a single screan tear on the PS3 version.

But I also absolutely hated the DJ, Crash FM, and the wanabee hipster vibe of the game.

I'm on the fence with this game. Gonna have to read some reviews first before I grab it.

I have both demo versions, and believe me the PS3 version is far more solid of the two. There’s no frame rate hitching, slow down, or obvious draw-in when compared to the 360 version. As far as reflections…the reflections are slightly cleaner and more refined on the PS3. However both versions have aliasing and anisotropic issues everywhere.

But that’s my opinion…;)

i don't see anymore aliasing on the PS3 version than the 360 version. and its quite clear that the reflections are a little better on PS3. on the flip side, the textures do seem to be a tad better on 360. but i agree the differences are minor (visually speaking anyway - i have not played both versions, so i cannot compare performance, although some have said the framerate in the PS3 version is a little more solid).

Where is it quite clear? I checked every pair of screenshots and just don't see it. Is there a different update rate between the two?

The clearer textures on 360 can be seen very occasionally (360 vs PS3, on the road), and I found one example of clearly antialiased reflections on 360 (360 vs PS3). I expect this from more games because AA'd reflections are free on 360 since they are rarely drawn at higher res than 512x512 per cube map face, and that can have 4xAA without tiling.

Are you guys confusing aliasing with clarity/detail?

On the whole, though, they're graphically identical. If the PS3 version runs a lot faster, then it's probably the better one to buy.

It's the filtering not the textures. The 360 version looks to have slightly better texture filtering.

They both look to be using trilinear filtering. But Nvidia GPUs (at least the recent ones) have had more aggressive performance enhancements (cheats) in their texture filtering algorithms.

The reflections thing is so subtle, whatever trade off they made was a very good deal.

Overall the IQ differences are going to be so negligible during game play. It's really going to come down to who has the more stable frame rate. Less pop in etc.

the third screenshot in particular shows the PS3 versions reflections are a little more pronounced. again, minor difference, but its quite easy to see there.

i personally don't see much aliasing, i was simply replying to TrungGap and saying i don't see any more aliasing in the PS3 version than the 360 version. both use 2xMSAA.

i haven't seen many say it runs a lot faster on ps3, but i have seen a fair amount of people saying that its a little more solid.

I find the reflections nicer on the 360 shots myself, like they were filtered

edit: Ah... MSAA applied to the reflections...

The vegetation/chain-link fence seem to be manifesting the same differences seen in SEGA Rally Revo too... Checkerboard/plaid on the 360, and... alpha... testing on PS3?

Kind of odd to see better texture filtering on the road on the 360 considering past games. :p The rest of the scene doesn't seem blurred enough to be a Quincunx issue.

Anyhoo... are the games supposed to be 30fps ?

Recent is 8 series, the 8 series has none of these cheats.

I fail to see how this is relevant to mention considering RSX is based off of G71. You're validating the texture filtering cheats ?
