Borderlands 2 [PS3, X360]

BOrderlands 2 Announced !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

About goddamn time. Since the Borderworlds name was trademarked, everyone knew this was on the cards, but that pointless diversion with Duke Forever delayed everything, and Gearbox loves to be coy about their projects. Pity it's only scheduled for fiscal year 2013. That means it could be as late as Q1 2013 and still be within this announcement's timeframe.

I was expecting this a lot sooner, as given the reception of Borderlands and the DLCs, I would have thought Gearbox would already have had at least a year's work done on the sequel.

Much as I really enjoyed Borderlands one, I'll wait until it's released and I have user feedback to know if they've released with killer bugs again or not. Gearbox support was lousy, just ignoring complaints about voice chat not working, and they never fixed it. That's lousy service that lost me as a day 1 buyer and I'll need convincing.

Very much looking forward to it. I spent a ton of time with BL1 and it was good fun each time. The DLC was cool also. Very simple but addictive game.

Sucks about your issues Shifty.

Shifty, just buy an Xbox and play with me and Robert. I'll be getting the sequel unless they somehow monumentally screw it up.

Worked flawlessly for us on XBox Live... ;) It's a real shame that Sony really dropped the ball on offering basic core services that should be a part of every game.

That is true, but it's also Gearbox's fault for not adding those features where other developers can. Voice chat could have been fixed, I'm sure. The party issues where I couldn't join with my UK account but could my US account is probably more Sony's fault.

TBH quality this generation has gone downhill all across the board. I've a mind to start a bug-watch website that lists the faults of games, would discourage people from buying games until patched adequately (DS3's good and all, but no-one should buy it until they fix the camera!), and get the people who fund these games to invest in quality instead of turning the cost into user frustration.

It's not really the other guys, but poor QA overall. eg. If I had XB360, I'd have bought Dungeons and Dragons Daggerdale and laughed at the poor PS3 suckers who still had to wait. Only to find the game is bug ridden and people are getting their money back for it. The console companies no longer ensure standards of the titles. The publishers don't either. As an individual I'm taking to waiting on purchases until I can be sure of them. In fact, what's doubly annoying about Borderlands is I asked on the Borderlands forum before hand if the game would work multiplayer and the answer was 'yes'. It's just I got hit with some random bug and no-one did anything about it!

That's why I feel there's room for a bugwatch website, for people to check up on games and not get stung by frustrations, irrespective of platform (although it'd be interesting to catalogue bugs and see if any platform has higher QA than the others. That'd be a good selling point for a platform versus gamers, and if such a website gained traction my get some competition in that space too).

Put a decent skin/front end on some bug tracking software and you are of to a flying start :D

New Details revealed !

The first round of details from Game Informer are now available (see below). More information from the article will likely arrive over the next few hours/days, so keep your eyes peeled for additional content.

- Co-op will probably be 4 players
- Vehicles will have variety
- One vehicle: Bandit Technical
- One vehicle will have four seats
- Eridium – enhance weapons
- Eridium is a form of currency
- Salvador: Gunzerker, can dual-wield with any weapon
- Vault Hunters from the first game will be NPCs
- Bandits can access their own type of weaponry
- Unique styling, color, personality for each manufacturer
- Custom decals/enhancements for weapons
- More responsive enemies, more varied, better AI, improvement so that they interact with each other better
- NPCs will also be improved, will move around more
- Interacting dialogue for players
- Skill tree will be similar to the first game (3 branch system)
- Claptrap seems to be returning
- Apparently there won’t be any old weapons
- Story missions won’t be static
- Some pickups will provide temporary buffs

The only other thing I've heard about the game (not mentioned in your list) so far is that some of the missions will have a time limit.

That blows, IMO, because the best part of an open world game like Borderlands is the ability to roam around at your own pace. Some of the missions in the last one, I think General Knoxx? Had the time limit before the vault blew and that was annoying enough. That's exactly my tolerance level of annoying.

I wonder if they're going to return the bajallion gun thing. I thought that was a blast, sometimes you could get sniper rifles that were revolvers, or sometimes they had clips like assault rifles.

They'd better have the Maliwan Volcano in B2!! Or else I'm going to kick some claptrap!

To celebrate the five-year anniversary of the PlayStation 3's launch in North America, the US PlayStation Blog published a collection of "must play" PS3 games suggested by some of the top game makers in the business. Among them, head of Gearbox Software Randy Pitchford was the only one listing Resistance 3 amid his three favorites (the other two being Valkyria Chronicles and Demon's Souls), along with an intriguing comment about his experience with the PlayStation Move.

"I’m a big fan of anything Insomniac, but Resistance 3 motivated me to get the PlayStation Move set up with the sharp shooter controller, and it’s a great way to play this great game," Pitchford said. "It’s always difficult to be able to rationalize custom development effort for sub-sets of customers on a platform, but the experience I had with Resistance 3 and the sharp shooter makes me want to see something special done with that interface in our games".

Do it !

Excellent choice of favorite PS3 games too. ;-)

That is true, but it's also Gearbox's fault for not adding those features where other developers can. Voice chat could have been fixed, I'm sure. The party issues where I couldn't join with my UK account but could my US account is probably more Sony's fault.

From the very beginning, back in 2005, the paradigm was "more features provided by MS/less control by developers" 360 vs "more flexibility for developers/more responsibility for developers" on the PS3. So that all weighs in there. The next thing is as a developer if you have a target date with expected roll outs from the platform so you budget with those in mind (both cycles as well as staff resources) and certain system updates don't materialize what do you do?

I hear a lot of hard core PS3 gamers complain about chat but I wonder how much the casual fan cares seeing as developers of all stripes contribute to this specific issue. It also makes me wonder, knowing Sony must know this has been an ongoing issue, have only been making baby steps in this area. It obviously has improved but it is curious why a 3rd party has not deployed a simple solution or Sony just solve it themselves.

Anyways, it definitely looks like platform-services are a significant features that impact development.

Btw, maybe someone who knows both services inside and out and not a homer could give a current-state-of-affairs in this regards. I guess after the new Xbox guide update that would be the proper time for that?

Yeah, this game is looking like it's going to be fantastic. It's suddenly evolved into a top tier game. According to Take 2 it has the third most pre-orders of any game ever, behind only GTA San Andreas and GTA IV.

That's pretty damn impressive if Borderlands 2 can come close to bringing in those kind of sales figures.
