Best big screen tv from Best Buy right now?

Bump since a friend made me dredge up this thread. The TV has been faboo and I got absolutely no complaints or regrets, I like it when things work out like that.

Thanks again for all the help everyone, you really saved me arse and helped me get a great TV. :)

No I didn't, my wife transported it in the Pathfinder...I stayed home with the kids. :p

Yeah, it fit fine in the box in the Pathfinder and everything. The only thing I messed up on was opening the box; I cut the bottom off to get it open when all I had to do was pull out four tabs and it would have slid off.

If you get this TV, make sure you get a separate sound system. The sound on the TV is just as terrible as all the reviews made it out to be, but since we got a cheapy 5.1 system when we got the TV it's never been an issue.

Bump since I had to hunt this thread up. The TV is actually still working faboo, but without an external HD tuner I can't get HD....trying to find some work arounds to just get it working on basic channels with a digital signal, came across this thread to find out when we got it.

DigitalWanderer,
I am considering buying the 42" Magnavox Plasma that you got. I just wanted to find out what your thoughts are on it's performance. Is it everything you expected? Good picture? Any problems? Please let me know. Thanks!

Guy with 1 post...

LMFAO...

I know no one cares - and i'm sure that the simple fact that i'm posting will garner a lot more attention than the post itself - but i just got my new Panny plasma. The 50" GT50, which is one of the best panels of 2012.

Just sharing the love because this thing is absolutely insane. The black levels are shockingly good and i have no idea how manufacturers will justify charging a lot more for OLED screens. Simply put, the black level on the GT50 - which is not even the top model of last year - is black. The pixels are off. Kaput. OK, in a completely pitch black room, a completely black screen is not really 100% black, but it's almost there. As soon as something appears on the screen (say a film title, or studio logo), the contrast is so unbelievably good that it makes the black parts of the screen pitch black. The times i go WOAH just looking at a film/game opening titles, i must be crazy.

I did notice that in its first few days it does have the tendency to retain images (not burn-in, but retention which means it goes away). This is quickly fixed and is of course due to me keeping the contrast very high just to see how far the panel can go.

3D... Dunno, played a couple of 3D Blurays and PS3 games and - especially as far as the games go - i much prefer the 2D versions, first of all because black levels while playing 3D are worse than on my old plasma, which funny enough makes the image less '3D', less deep than when playing them in 2D with those stunning blacks and contrast. Secondly ... Maybe i just don't get 3D.

anyway, if you're in the market and don't want to wait and pay a premium for the 2013 plasmas, you can't go wrong with the GT50 (also the cheaper ST50 and the more expensive VT50)

Congratulations. I have a 50" GT30 and the image is great.
The price is cheap compared to all these LED TVs.
