My predictions:

1) R42X will generally give better IQ than NV4X (if only marginally).
2) nvidia will continue to shove brilinear down our throats (regardless of how far ahead they may be with FPS).
3) nvidia will continue their policy of 'optimizations' on benchmarks (same as 2).

But maybe they'll (Nv) figure out that quality isn't always just a number.

Hmmmm.. I don't think the poll has enough information and needs to be more specific.

Who will be the top-dog, as in having the better product?

Or who will be the top-dog, as in having the best reviews, benchmark scores and magazine/developer advocacy?

History has shown that the above are often times two completely different products.

Best as in top-dog, the one that you think Beyond3D would find to be the best if they did a head-to-head review between the best NV40 and the best R420.

NV40 will probably be faster.
R420 will probably be a lot quieter and cooler.
They will be around the same price and probably will have very similar IQ.

It all depends on:

pricing for the non-Ultra/Pro/Uber versions of the cards
drivers
cooling crappiness
power requirements
