Anand has the details about r520,rv530,rv515

Oh, I wish. But given that 6x in the RV515 page we saw, I'm keeping my hopes down.

So, I think at least a wrinkle. . .like HDR related somehow. Tho I think it a bit of a stretch to call that "obvious" for a non-announced feature of a non-announced card.

But, hey, I'll be the first to stand up and cheer 8x or 8xs or 12x or 12xs or somesuch. . .

You forgot to add "at 1600x1200x6x16" mode. Because at lower modes such as 1600x1200x4x8 HL2 doesn't get any benefit from 512mb vs 256mb.

Lets keep the dis-information to a minimum please.

Lol, your link proves him right though. HL2 gets a very nice benefit from 512MB when you play at top notch settings, I dont see why in the world you'd be paying that much for a graphics card if you were not going to be playing at the top settings.

I believe RV515 will be the most R300 like. With PCIE, a 512MB/128bit board only makes sense in an economies of scale case. You use the same density DRAMS for all product members. Else, 256MB/64-bit boards will make the bulk of shipments. Adaptive AA is unlikely to be the reason, as the 3D pipeline is scaled down. Xilleon CE output & AVIVO seem only available in RV530+ products with enough pipeline to accelerate the video & AV features. Also, without dual link TMDS, it's pointless to connect to dual high res displays.

Perhaps they're considering an eventual R9550 256MB/128bit SM3.0 replacement, as this SKU has sold particularly well.

The point of my post was not to prove or disprove him "right". It was to provide more information. I'm sorry you couldn't understand that. I tried to make it very clear.

You deserve to be shot with when running a $300+ graphics card and not turn AF up to 16x

(maybe my wording is a bit harsh but I think you know what I mean)

Is there really a reason AF should be less than 16x permanently anymore? If so, enlighten me, I don't see it :)

I guess not, but I can't tell the difference between 8x and 16x when playing a game. Not to start a controversy, but I perefer the look of lower AF levels and maybe I'd really like it "done right" with no 'weirdness'. I find that extreme sharpness at a distance is not very lifelike; it is natural for things to blur in the distance.

I guess what I am trying to say is that I'd hate for one IHV to focus on fast AF and then crank up the number for marketing. It's the "look" I want, not the number in the control panel, and, like I said, I don't mind a bit of blur in the distance. Transitioning would be most important for me.

Depth of field to the rescue!

No longer will distant objects in a wide-angle perspective of a scene appear sharp. No longer will textures shimmer in the background.

etc.

Yeah, but unfortunately this is not something you can just switch on (well, I guess you could). I would love to see all these effects in action to get a real looking image. I just don't think high levels of AF qualify as that. But I agree with the DoF. What I wouldn't give to have depth of field, subtle motion blur, etc for my fragging pleasure. I just hate the boxy cut-out look and I think high levels of AF contribute to that in many current titles.

For example, and this may not exactly be current, but load up Quake 3 and use AF 2-4. You get a natural blurring of floor tiles into the distance. With 8 and 16 AF you could count every single tile and it just looks wrong. Like you are in some chess game. It's Tron.

I was being somewhat sarcastic

That said, I've seen some DOF in game videos and it actually looks quite pleasing.

But if you're trying to spot movement at 200m distance amongst the foliage without bino assistance, having depth of field is going to make you dead. Very quickly.

Ah, so ATI will allow using video memory for the swapfile? ;)

Hmm, triple buffered, antialiased FP16 framebuffer with downsample/tonemapping at scanout...

T-Buffer....is that anything like the T-Virus in Resident Evil - Apocalypse?

Anyone else think Sienna Guillory is far more interesting than any ol' videocard?;)

what about HDR (FP10) + MSAA?
