ATI 770 marketing site goes live

WHAT IS THE ATI marketing campaign around R770 going to look like? An eagle eyed INQ reader spotted this and sent it in today.

That's still $70 more than the mooted 4850 price point, for a card that's supposedly 10% slower. And that's probably from dodgy venders, we should use newegg for pices generally.

And I agree G92b prices will fall, the question is what it's going to do to Nvidias profit margins, especially since it supposedly was struggling margins on G92b even at current prices.

Dodgy vendors, are you kidding me? You can get 9800 GTX from buy.com, tiger direct, and compusa.com all for that price, and it's going to become even more competitively priced once the new Radeon's come out.

From rumors so far, the 4850 is about equal performance to the 9800 GTX.

The 4850 is going to be introduced at the $200 price point? I doubt that. And if so, profit margins will be relatively slim. Remember that NVIDIA has been milking relatively high margins on the 9800GTX for a while now, as that card had been commading $300-400 in the beginning.

2. We know that the HD 4850 is clocked at 625 MHz... we know it right ?
3. We know that the AA + AF works great -> more than 16 TMUs.

So it can be: 625 MHz x [800 Alu / 5D = 160 SP / 10 blocs of 4 TUs = 40 TMUs] = 1 TFLOPs.

The only "claim" was that it could be found as low as ~ $235 (albeit with rebate), and maybe $34 more without rebate. Now that offer is no good, but surely it is a sign of things to come once the 4850 is released. Also interesting to note is that 8800 GT in SLI can be had for about $240. Of course, there are always some issues with SLI/Crossfire too, but judging from your sig, that's not a big deal to you

Rebates end, that's just a fact of life. The $235 after rebate price was for a limited time of course. Anyway, in arguing semantics, you are truly missing the point. The point is that comparing 4870 to 9800 GTX, and 4850 to 8800 GT, is ultimately fruitless because they will not be at the same prices, unless you claim that the 4870 will be introduced at just north of $250, and that the 4850 will be introduced at $125 It's just as silly as comparing a $600 GTX 280 to a $300 3870X2.

The 4870 could very well be $300 (vs $270 for the 9800 GTX). While they are not the same price, they are close enough. If the 4870 is higher in price then that obviously changes things. As for the 4850 (~$200) vs 8800GT (~$150) comparison, it's not exactly AMD's fault that Nvidia doesn't currently have a card at the ~$200 price range (and the 4850 should preform well enough over the 8800 GT to justify the $50 premium).

We are just waiting on a Vantage score with the texture score for a 4870, that or a non-buggy GPU-Z shot.
I am leaning towards 32TMUs though.
