lol...muppet..haven't heard that one for a while!
here's a clip from CLiffy B's blog, tell me this isn't going to be a fun game:
Been spending a lot of time on the scary/fear parts of the game. I've come to the conclusion that fear comes in several varieties. And it's not a factor. (HAH!)
There's the SHOCK fear. You know, the part of the movie where they bring the volume waaaay, way down and then suddenly the same damned cat that's in every fucking horror movie jumps out and scares everyone just enough to get them to lower their guard until seconds later THE REAL KILLER comes into the scene and uses a fire poker to kebab our favorite horny teenager. See "Every Shitty Hollywood Attempt at A Scary Movie."
There's the CREEPY kind of fear. Brief flickers of disturbing images that haunt you. See the little girl in "The Ring."
There's GORY/SICK fear. Seeing things that are nausea inducing such as surgery or putrid, rotting bodies. See "Dawn of the Dead."
There's the fear of the UNKNOWN, of sight unseen. The dark woods in "Blair Witch." The water in "Jaws."
The biggest thing I've learned about fear in the years I've been doing this is that fear is ... well, it's kind of like sex. (Bear with me on this one...) It doesn't happen onscreen or in the bedroom it happens in the mind of the beholder. I use the term "monster foreplay" when we're crafting our creature scenarios. The monster wants to scare (e.g. sleep with) you and each brief encounter with the sound of the creature, the results of its handiwork, all of it - they're all building up to an encounter where the beast "makes a move" and you either buy it or you don't. The creature jumps out and you're "willing to go home with it" (i.e. you're frightened) or you're not (you give a resounding "meh" at the Monster Closet...)
Wait, I'm kind of drifting off into Anime-Hentai-Tentacle-Schoolgirl-Sex-Ville here.
Better get back to work. Marcus and Dom are running from Locust that are mantling over cover and coming in for a melee encounter.
