[360, PS3] Crysis 2

NoTarts suggest the new 360 demo might look cleaner.

Is there any way we can get shots of the new 360 demo? An interview claimed they added new effects for armor and cloak modes, but they looked the same to me. I could be wrong, but it seems like the HUD bob still doesn't work in the new demo. It seems like they took the same code as the older beta/demo and just fixed the hit detection and netcode while leaving everything else the same. I could be wrong though since it's been a while since I last saw the older 360 demo.

On the eye it looks the same to me compared to the last demo/beta.
Netcode is better and hit detection also improved.
Can't wait to see what they have done in the final build.

Played the 360 demo , it looks and plays great .
Seems to me that it looks cleaner than the beta , also no slowdown or lag.
The sun-shafts created by your gun are something else....

maybe im wrong but I think this demo looks cleaner than previous beta, there is still some aliasing obviously but overall it is cleaner.Ghosting is also less noticable.

definitely improved from the first demo.

Pier 17 is really beautiful...oh the lighting and god rays.... better control (feeling) lag is gone and notice very little pop in.

Oh yea... and as for new armor shield effects I noticed what appears to be a more 3D look to the armor in HUD but aside form that the effects I noticed were not so much my own but the glow of armor or cloak that the OTHER players now display when engaged.

Checked the first one. Appears to be PS3 footage

Hmm didn't even notice that. Yes all the button prompts appear to be PS3 footage, and it looks quite good.

Guess Crytek guy wasn't lying when he said PS3 version is virtually indistinguishable.

Looked decent but i'm strictly a single player guy. I'm hoping single player is where its at for me. That MP PS3 footage looked good though.

Near the end of the first video… surprised it took so many pistol shots to kill a guy at close distance ? At first I thought he's shooting at a friendly. May be he is ?

Aiming is the key i found pistol to be very powerfull and im getting owned a lot by ppl using pistol with silencer.

They look fairly similar  Dunno why do Nebula's shots look so much better?Oh and it seems like 360 version looks a bit smoother than beta.

My shots are all native untouched FRAPs PNG->JPEG 95% with default demos hardcore setting. I also have 16xAF forced via control panel and no MSAA/TSAA forced/enabled. Comparision can also get flawed it they changed settings and never restarted game as otherwise presets wont be applied correctly. Anyway the PC shots looks way to blurry but perhaps edge AA gets better the higher the res. Medium and low settings looks sharper though since edge AA blur filter is reduced/removed. 360 looks around low setting judging by visuals though that contrast setting they use makes it look horribly overblown but that is user applied.

Low setting, native untouched.

Custiom servers might also override settings. I've been to empty server where hardcore and 1680x1050 gave me 40-45fps while other empty server gave me 30-35fps (Pier 17), both about same ping.

I was playing the new demo and I noticed that if you're cloaked, you still have a shadow. This is easier to notice on Pier 17 since the time of day is right before sunset. According to a Crytek staff member on the crymod.com forums, that's actually intentional and there's a perk that will remove your shadow when cloaked.

I haven't gotten that perk yet but I think stealth is a bit too underpowered in multiplayer. Snipers and Scouts always camp with cloak but it's pretty hard to be mobile enough with cloak on that your shadow gives you away. Maybe the higher level perks will make the game more balanced?

IIRC, the stealth enhance mod is what you want to upgrade to remove your shadow in cloak. Level 2 slows down energy drain while in cloak and level 3 removes shadows during cloak.

Not good News for the PS3 version. :(

IGN PS3 Preview

The verdict? Not so great, unfortunately. The performance of the PS3 version is pretty underwhelming. The framerate is frequently low and choppy. There are jagged lines everywhere, and shadows are especially messy. There's a muddiness to the graphics that's hard to stomach in the wake of the PS3's other flagship showpieces, and worse, the variable framerate really hurts controller response.

Our videos don't present this well because of the realities of HD video capture, but more than one IGN editor confirmed similar thoughts to me after seeing Crysis 2 running on the PS3. That isn't to say it's all bad. Crysis 2's global illumination system still provides some breathtaking lighting effects, from god rays filtering around standing objects to some great transitions from indoors to outside as your eyes adjust to the change. The sound is still excellent, with great gunfire and ubiquitous audio cues that you'll need to pay attention to if you want to keep an edge online.
